Connor Ogilvie at Gillingham would be a good left sided centre back / left back.
He is out of contract.
Would be a good addition and good enough to start for us imo, that would be our left sided defense sorted with Purrington as back up. The exact type of signings I want to see, cherry pick the best players from the teams around us

I really liked the look of Panutche Camará at Plymouth. Think he would be a solid foundation to build a possession-orientated midfield on. Reasonable target as well at a good age.
Convincing Pigott to come home would be an unbelievable piece of business.
Camara had a good game against us but came 4th in Plymouth Player of the year vote with 13% of the vote. For a team that finished mid table I think that doesn't make him sound a great prospect overall.

Right, bit of a summary wishlist post from me here, but I don't think we're particularly hamstrung by tight-fistedness. I think we'll see reasonable moves made, and quite a few of them:
GK: Amos and Maynard-Brewer. If Amos leaves then I think Nathan Baxter (Accrington this year) would be an unreal loan signing. George Long not a bad shout though from Hull, based on the rumour someone heard earlier.
Wishlist: retain Amos; George Long [rumour]; Nathan Baxter [loan probably a last resort but he's an excellent keeper]
RB: Matthews and Gunter. There aren't many players I care about us retaining, but Matthews is one of them. This would be a perfectly good situation - for all people think Gunter is bang average, who would we possibly get who'd improve a backup right back situation that won't cost much? We've got Chris on the books; may as well keep it that way.
Wishlist: retain Matthews fine for me.
LB: new starter and Purrington. Covered extensively already, Ben is a massively adequate League One left back. Let's be honest here: him and Gunter could start as a full-back pairing in this league no trouble. Maybe you won't be promoted, but I'd say they could help a side finish anywhere from 8th-14th or something. But, we need a starting quality player.
Wishlist: Connor Ogilvie; Lee Brown; [Shane Ferguson - but a utility man]
CB: Inniss, new starter, new depth, new depth. This is basically out of necessity - we only have Ryan as a senior centre back under contract. Unless Pearce takes a bit of a pay cut (he's on about 5k a week isn't he?) then I wouldn't want him back, for all his service. Oshilaja can go - I think a fresh start does everyone good there. Famewo would be lovely back on loan if Norwich were so inclined. Could he go to the Championship? Perhaps - but they might want him to taste success in a lower division rather than scrap it out among the 12 teams seemingly always involved in a relegation battle in the Champo. Wishlist: Famewo (wishful); Pearce (backup); Reece Burke [rumour?!]; various others I'm sure
CM: Morgan, Watson, Gilbey, playmaker, water-carrier, lots of depth. This, for me, is where the most important additions will come. I quite rate Gilbey in an Adkins setup (clearly so does Nige). I'm assuming Watson's triggered the year option, but we need someone to either back him up or rotate and then take over in 2022/23. We need Morgan to be a backup playmaker-style centre mid, and I'd love to see us sign the likes of Scott Fraser or Ryan Wintle, though both might be pipe dreams. Retaining JFC would be great despite the injury.
Wishlist: JFC, Scott Fraser, Ryan Wintle, Panutche Camara, Prem loanee, various others
Wingers: Jaiyesimi, Washington, starting quality winger, depth. Maybe one more depth player as I see Conor Wash as flitting between forwards and wingers, and there seem to be plenty you'd be able to source from Premier League teams looking to get their youngsters out. I think we need a Charlie Kirk type and he heads my wishlist. Shane Ferguson is a persistent rumour too.
Wishlist: Charlie Kirk; Joel Randall; Shane Ferguson; Conor Grant [dunno if he's more a winger]
Strikers: Jayden Stockley; Josh Davison; Ronnie Schwartz; poacher; depth (maybe). If Stockley is done as has been rumoured on the thread, that is absolutely brilliant news. I rate him incredibly highly and if we are able to build a team around him, excellent. The football might not always be really pretty but there will be some good stuff. The guy is intelligent and always a set-piece threat when on the pitch. Schwartz I hope can put a torrid start behind him because I like the idea of the big-man/poacher combo, which he could be part of. We saw brief glimpses of quality. And Davison: yes, I do rate him. The guy works his arse off and would be a competent relief man for Stockley. I've not included retaining Chuks: while this might be nice, I suspect financially/game-time wise this might not be workable. As for targets - Mullin's name has done the rounds, I like Colby Bishop at Accrington as well as Pigott given he's out of contract, but that's far-fetched. And a rogue one... Liam Delap at Man City might be half a shout on loan. Looks potentially very useful, but always risky to take a youngster.
Wishlist: Jayden Stockley (almost a must for me); Paul Mullin; Colby Bishop; potentially Chuks Aneke if agreeable wages-wise; Prem loanee

How much of this could happen? Not much, probably. But it's a good thought exercise. I've legislated for nine new faces, of which two or three could be filled by retaining loanees/renewing contracts. That's not loads, but it's hardly insubstantial, either.

Kyle Dempsey was the best player I saw via the streaming service against Charlton this year. Could be attracting Championship clubs. But age, determination, knows the division would all tick the right boxes.
Cousins is out of contract at Stoke, still only 27. If he is injury free he could be an excellent addition as the mobile CDM.
He's exactly the kind of athletic, all-round midfielder we need. Can press, win the ball and play forwards. But would he be motivated back in league one.
I would keep Matthews and Watson but let Gunter and Pratley go and bring in younger players at right back and centre midfield to challenge or be first choice ahead of Matthews and Gunter.
If Pearce stays I would hope he is more of a squad player next season than first choice. Same goes for Purrington. I think he has been stronger defensively than Maatsen but would be good to see someone who can combine that side of the game along with being strong going forward. Purrington is a perfectly adequate back up at L1 level.
The club can't just let Gunter go. He has a contract. Unless he does something so bad that we can sack him, we have to pay him.
I don't know if you've got a job but assuming you have, what would you say if your boss asked you to go and sign on with no compensation because they wanted to bring in someone else?

People are very scarred by Ajose. His name seems to come up every time a player has a decent goalscoring season and we look at him. Sometimes it's just a flash in the pan and sometimes it's the start of a player figuring himself out, the management will hopefully be able to judge that. We don't have to cross ourselves to ward off Ajose's spirit every time though
Nicky Ajose, Andy Gray, Izale Mcleod, Paul Benson... Scarred by them all
I'd like to also claim some scarring from Pawel Abbott, David Mooney and Akpo Sodje
We must corner the market in ineffective 'strikers'.
Dont think we'll have the massive squad overhaul that people are hoping for.
10 new players looks pretty massive to me....!
Not really if 5 are loans.
I'm hoping we can move away from requiring 5 loans every season to build a squad. If you release another 5 suddenly that's 10 signings you need to bring in every summer.
We only started bringing that many in on loan due to Roland losing interest which resulted in him cutting back on the playing budget. After he went the salary cap took over and meant it had to continue.
It might cost more in the short term but get the recruitment right and it'll pay off in the longer term.
Comes down to how much TS wants to spend and who's available I guess.
I think ruling out loans is cutting your nose off to spite your face. It's the type of loan, the same as any transfer, that's the risk/issue.
You can get, on loan, players you could never sign on a perm. You can also "try before you buy". I also think, due to the current financial situation your will see more "Shinnie type" transfers to off load players in their final year. We may see one or two of these going out this season?
The loans you don't want the one we had under Parkinson and Pardew, but you can't now anyway.
All the time there are bigger clubs than you, you should, absolutely use loans. Even Powell's title winners had 5 over the season.

I’m not ruling them out, I’m saying I hope we cut down on the number of them from 5 to say 2/3. It’ll help us build a team for the longer term and we won’t have so much to do in summer window next year. Handy to have a few spots free ready for January if we need them too.
After the August window closed Powell only had Cort on loan. The other four were short term loans mainly used to cover injuries and add depth.

I think Ferguson is the complete opposite of what we want, slow, versatile and closer to the end of his career than the beginning - never mind his links with the scum.
It's a no from me.
Which clubs someone has played for before coming to us is, for me, irrelevant. They're people doing a job, I just want them to do that job properly when they're here. How many here hold Inniss's previous club against him?
Adkins meeting with players today. We should have a released list by this time next week ? I guess those he wants to keep but are out of contract will take longer to sort out. Not too long I hope. We need to know who we need to replace.
I think it’s inconceivable that a third tier team won’t be looking to get in loans. I agree with Scoham though. We shouldn’t be looking to get in five. We need to build a squad of players that are our own. The churn we’ve endured for the last few years has been hugely disruptive. For me I’d minimise the young PL loans because you just don’t know what you are getting. If we want loans then I’d be much happier with the Stockley type of loan where you have some pedigree to base your opinion on.
Dont think we'll have the massive squad overhaul that people are hoping for.

It is not our money is it ? I am not keen on many loans either but if Thomas is worth £500 million and it costs £12 million a year just on running costs then transfers will impact on his wealth over 5 years. As it does every lower club owner.
I think what I would be like if it was my money. We should already be grateful to Thomas. We have a future for the time being.
When it is someone else's money fans start a spending spree on line. If their wives started talking about their money I am sure DIVORCE would be an option that came to mind.
I am also sure Thomas knows it costs money to own a football club and has a budget.
I expect some loans.
TS is very ambitious and yet some are expecting almost the same strategy as we saw under Roland with the maximum loan slots used up.
He may look longer term and think a good young player signed permanently can develop and be sold in for a profit. Get that right and you won’t lose £12m a year.
It’s not easy but we stand a much better chance than we did under the last three ownerships.
I’m sure he won’t go mad with million pound signings at this level but I think it’s realistic to expect more ambition than we’ve seen for several years.
There will no doubt be some loans, I’ve never disagreed with that.
Dont think we'll have the massive squad overhaul that people are hoping for.

Because there wasn't a window for loans you could have the short term injury cover like Ephrain and Cook. I was quite surprised Russell only played 11 games, I thought it was more, still managed to get sent off twice mind.
I think it's the same as any transfers, you get the right one and it's good, get the wrong one and it's bad. Unless you can get 15 players, on 3 or 4 year contracts, who are good enough to play in the championship, I think you need 3 or 4 loans to add some quality as well as depth.
What I think we all agree on is we don't want the likes of Levitt, Smyth, Smith and Smith who were basically here to make up the numbers.
Just on the loans thing, I'm not to worried if we bring in some quality players. The loans that made my blood boil were the long term sick-notes we took in and nursed back to health, while they couldn't give 100% (or occasionally anything at all) as they were on a slow road to recovery and didn't want to risk a relapse. Or players with some sort of pedigree and a life changing injury to balance it, and who would come in, dazzle for three games before pulling a hamstring and vanishing until a reappearance in january where they turned out on a tuesday night looking as if they had aged forty years in four months. Simply the luxury of being able to run the rule over players who played 40+ games regularly, have no injuries in the closet and are under thirty years old would be a nice step in the right direction.
Kyle Dempsey was the best player I saw via the streaming service against Charlton this year. Could be attracting Championship clubs. But age, determination, knows the division would all tick the right boxes.
Totally agree with this - he'd be my number one priority. He's already a top player in this league, was excellent in both games against us (and scored) and has plenty of room for growth.
Seemed to have a fantastic attitude and is the perfect profile of signing for us.

I genuinely can't think off the top of my head of a loan like that the past 3 seasons.
We've had shit loans that didn't work out but none of the reasons mentioned?
