I really dont understand how Paul Mullin hasnt signed for someone yet

The bloke has had one decent season in LEAGUE TWO - He surely shouldn't have this much weight over League One teams, especially if there are some bigger teams after him

What’s happened to the 2 that were close
Close only counts in horse shoes and handgrandes.

Davison had a couple of decent games in the championship for us. He's fast and strong with a good finish, don't see any issue with him being one of our options this season

Thought Adkins explanation of the  transfer situation was very good. We're going to give it go this season, but not jeopardise the stability that we've got now.

    https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/charlton-chief-nigel-adkins-gives-his-reaction-to-rotherham-managers-transfer-window-claim/

Also believe he will use the young players well and not before they are ready.

I know it's hard to believe after the last two managers but Adkins never just speaks for the sake of it.

He knows exactly what he is saying and to whom he is saying it.

I'd guess there's been Champ interest and a handful of L2 players have jumped straight up already so probably a case of waiting on them,  championship clubs XYZ don't get their fancy backup striker signing, then it's "hi Paul!"

And I guess from his point of view... Be Charlton's backup striker on 3k a week for 2 years or be QPR's for 7k a week.

Just seen a video from a pre season match between Portsmouth and Bristol city where Portsmouth had to borrow a City player, who then scored, as they were short for players. This was only 2 days ago. Think we're in a much better situation than many.

I’m guessing it’s because he has a few options and is biding his time for the best deal.

For that matter where is Mullin training at the moment? At least Tucker is still a Gillingham player so can do a normal pre season with them

He has 1 goal for us on what basis is that a decent finish?

They had about 7 trialists as well.  They are well behind us but there is still a lot of waiting going on.

That’s unbelievable really. How embarrassing for Pompey. Surely taking along a few of their kids and putting them in would have been preferable. Unless Cowley was trying to make a point to the owner.

I meant in general, not in the handful of appearances he's had for us

That's the issue isn't it, last season we had a number of players that didn't do preseason anywhere.  I think Gunter did with Reading but a lot of the others didn't.  Yet only Ronnie gets a pass.

This season even if 1 or 2 are 2 or 3 weeks behind hopefully we won't have to throw them straight in and they can catch up quite quickly.

Bowyer threw young players under the bus = Charlton life melt down

adkins praises young striker in public = Charlton life meltdown

Davison was used by bowyer two years ago when he wasn’t ready and he didn’t let himself down. He didn’t cover himself in glory on loan but the loan may have turned a boy into a man. I would be happy to have him in the squad and playing in cup games over a premiership loan or a one season wonder like mullin.

A few overreactions here re Davison. I'd love him to do really well this season.

Stockley is our main man so I'd be happy enough with Davison getting some minutes here and there and maybe a PL loan as another option up top.
I don't think it's a priority area anyway, we desperately do need these wingers that everyone keeps talking about though.
  • Rather see players come through the academy, the fans will give them both more time and encouragement rather than buying a player in the hope he settles, fits into the style of play hits the ground running all the old b******s that normally comes out.

Cannot get my head round the idea that 'We haven't signed anyone for a few days. We are never going to sign anyone ever again and are therefore doomed.'

Last March, Scoham posted a link to a good interview with Davison. Before writing the player off, perhaps some people might want to read it?

    Scoham said:
Good interview, interesting he was the target man at Woking and then running the channels and playing off the big man at Forest Green.

everybody wants him to do well but you can have reservations about if he is good enough.
I hope he proves me wrong and is in double figures by Christmas

I don't think he's got that much weight. He's probably holding out knowing that his record last season will get some interest but either someone will make an offer he likes or it will get closer to deadline day and he'll drop his demands if no-one is meeting them.

Nearly every single club is more cagey than usual at the moment and it's definitely having a knock on effect. Yes you've got a few clubs that have thrown money around but I am very sure that (for instance) Wigan are currently being quoted much higher prices for targets than we are because they've shown their hand already.

I really like Davison.  I don’t know if it would be the right move to have him as our fourth choice, but I would be up for giving him a run

Davison isn't an academy product who's been with us 10 years, only playing academy football, and who needed a loan to "toughen him up in men's football".

We signed him from Enfield Town where he had a successful season after being released by Peterborough

Saying 'Davidson is good enough' is clearly a cover for the fact we've been priced out of getting a good replacement for Aneke.

Going into this season with clearly worse striking options than last season.
Or is that worse striking options in the last 20 minutes of the game?

It's all smoke and mirrors, Mullin has signed last Saturday...Maybe Ollie has been filming a week long reveal...

Only two other teams scored more goals than us last season... And yet we still had a thread titled: "Where are the goals going to come from?"

    More of the same.
3 other teams scored more than us last season.

We have lost our top scorer who got 15, but also because of his presence caused us to score more goals even if it wasn’t him putting the ball in the back of the net.

Take out that contribution of just Aneke’s goals and we would have had 55, only 8 teams scoring fewer.

We won’t get near the total of goals we scored last season with the current 4 strikers. Davison is not Aneke. We need to bring in a striker and would be very disappointed if we don’t.
But we wouldn't have been playing with ten men without Aneke, and whoever would have replaced him would have chipped in.
Still pretty sure we'll bring in a striker/winger.
