That’s very sad. John drove the open top bus for the Valley Party in 1990 - he was a bus driver based at Plumstead, I think, at the time. He became involved with helping out with the playing side subsequently and most recently, despite poor health, he has been a stalwart of the former players’ association.
Top man. Always remember him standing out on the east terrace when it was being redeveloped. Hard hat on, retrieving footballs in all weather. A really great guy.
I remember when the Alan Curbishley Stand was being constructed, a visiting manager complained on TV that as ball boy on the building site, John was very quick to get the ball back for us but very slow for them.
I raised this with John, he simply smiled and said, 'it had to be done'. Top man.

Such a lovely fella.
Sad news, met John a few times and he was fanatical about Charlton.
Worked at the training ground and was also very much involved in the Former Players Association.
