[cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]Up until I met a load of the reprobates on here starting with my good friend MCS, I always went to Floyds on my own before every Charlton match as I did not know another Charlton fan who used to go to the games. Needless to say that all changed at the start of last season.
I have been known to go in the Penderalls Oak in Holborn with my knowledge book - a pint and some revision - can't beat it.
How can you think in that dump, so noisey and it ALWAYS smells of vomit downstairs.
It ain't that bad Stu --
Theres just nicer places, if I need to read something over with some peace and quiet I nip into the Colony just round the corner, which is generally lovely and peacefull.
Or the old nick round the back of the family court is also very, very nice.
The Old Nick has shocking service though. You can be the only one at the bar and it will still take 10 minutes to get served!

I take it you're local to Holborn then Stu?
Never really experienced this in the Old Nick, always seems decent in their. Only really go in their at lunchtimes, find myself in the Colony most evenings though.
Yep, I work on High Holborn, bang opposite Chancery Lane.

Ahh, go get my lunch down there quite often, lovely turkish restaurant. Turquoise, or something alike.
Like everyone's said, depends when and where. A walk to the Greenwich Picturehouse on a day off followed by a pint 'n' paper in the Greenwich Union is one of my life's pleasures. The last time I did that, I was the only person there. It was great.
Working in the abject shithole that is Camden has one advantage - there are a couple of reasonably good boozers where, if I fancy it, I can pop in for a quiet pint on my way home. The World's End is the best for this - the music in there is usually reasonable and it's not often rammo so don't feel like a complete pleb in there on my own with a book. I never have more than one mind - I get the impression if I did start doing it I might end up an alky...
It's different for us gals.
When we played at the Boleyn, on an evening kick off I'd leave my place of work in Southwark, jump on the tube & arrive well early. So I'd pop into the pub on my jones, order a pint of their best bitter & sup whilst reading my book. KB & Dad would arrive just before kick off usually so I was alone most times I went in. Never felt awkward or that I was a billy no mates, in fact felt quite proud that I could do that (ie feel safe as a lone female around football fans).
Would I do it now???
To be honest, I'm a bit of a breed apart. If I really felt the need for a brew & I was alone I wouldn't let that stop me. But walking into the pub I think the feel of it would make me decide whether I stayed for a pint.

couldn't agree more.
a pint of red beer and a bowl of free peanuts in The Union is definitely one of life's pleasures.

You two madmen! Why go to the Union when there's a much better pub just next door?!
Don't mind drinking on me todd. But i think the positioning has to be right.By the window if poss, so as to avoid eye contact from any onlooking crumpet (its tough turning em down). No, if & when i do, i have to have a paper to read. I'll probably have a few on my own in the Orange Tree tomorrow afternoon to celebrate getting my rail certificates.

i've got no defence, i'm a sucker for a free bar snack.
my mate's Dad used to own a pub in Brockley where they'd bring out baskets of roast potatoes on a sunday afternoon,
now that's my idea of a good pub.
