What impressed me the most was how we controlled the game after going in front. Three minutes of possession at the end of the second period of extra time. It usually us training in vain to get the ball back.
We use the ball so much better than I can remember us doing before - quick, sharp passes most of the time. We've been so laboured in the past.
Absolutely textbook extra time. 15 mins of total dominance culminating in a goal, shape change to add solidity in the second half and total control from there. Whenever we had a sniff of goal in that second half we didn't try to force anything and kept hold of the ball intelligently. Southgate has drilled these players so well and removed the individualism of players who might have tried to get their names in lights. Foden so clearly wanted to score but was mature enough to play the team game. Superb stuff and you can see how brilliant a coach Southgate is for this squad
Yeah, there was a lot of pre-game talk about Denmark’s team spirit, but it conveniently overlooked that England and Southgate have also built a great togetherness.
Italy the other great “team” of the tournament. I cannot call the final, really does look an evenly matched tie. Should be a good one.
Extraordinary and a tribute to the squad management that we have no injuries. Indeed the only injury we picked up throughout the tournament was a minor one for Saka
Find it a little bit funny that everyone is moaning Italy diving then to win on an obvious dive. Sterling was going to ground long before there was any contact which was minimal. Not sure why that wasn’t overturned
You've answered your own question. There was contact so not a clear and obvious error.
So it can only be a clear and obvious error if there is zero contact? That’s not the way the rule works otherwise virtually every penalty would stand
VAR doesn't look at stuff and go "that was a bit soft, we'll overturn it". There was contact so referees call and VAR will stick with that. If there had not been any contact then it would have been different.
Cant believe that ITV have managed to find anyone more irritating that Tyldesley but fcuk me they’ve managed it. Matterface and his annoying little chum Pougach are quite the pair.

It's testament to the coaching, quality and speed of the premier league that these players are so fit.
Unbelievable to see how much pace Sterling had 115 minutes into the game. I don't think any of them looked tired after 120 minutes - especially crazy when you think of the games they've played over the last 2 seasons.
Not his biggest fan but must admit Sterling has had one hell of a tournament.....he was still making incisive runs up until the end....impressive fitness
We look so much better than we did even 2 years ago. Phil Foden and Jack Grealish deserve bigger roles in this side but it’s so hard to fit everyone in. I respect that now.
We can progress evened further, but for right now English football is in a fantastic place.

Nah, doesn’t scan as well as the original.
