Famewo: 7.5 - gave the ball away once in a dangerous position but played very well otherwise. Good pace and use of his body strength

Morgan: 8 - a fine performance in his preferred deeper position. So much more comfortable than being shoehorned into an advanced 'number 10' position for which he's ill-equipped

I will concede that he had his best game in a Charlton shirt today.
Nice ... if unexpected ... headed goal. Some tricks, some good attempts at decent through-balls.
But ... woeful crossing. I really think that he doesn't know how to kick a ball. And check how many times on various threads that we hear ''good first half, but then faded."
So, if your definition of a good player is someone who does a few tricks and gets lucky from time to time ... then, yes, we have a winner.
Me? I think he's woeful.
And I really don't care if I am in the minority. Come back to this thread in 12 months and we'll have a humble pie festival.

As for Lee, 5. Looked rusty and slow-footed. If his name was Hasselbaink, I doubt he'd be getting the plaudits so early on. I'm sure he'll get better and will be a regular though.0 -
MacG: 7.5 Good saves and quick throws.
Matthews: 8 Defended very well and got forward with a lot of purpose in 2nd half. Looked a class player.
Inniss: 7 Very steady, stood up well one on one in the box and won a lot of 1st balls from our own set-pieces.
Famewo: 7.5 I like the way he tries to stay on his feet and use body strength rather than be reckless.
Gunter: 8 Looked every inch a top player at this level. Ok, he's not going to produce great passes at left-back but his cross was perfect and his rocket shot would have been goal of the decade. Got in first to nick the ball and started attacks.
DJ: 7 - Saw a lot of the ball in the first 10 mins and his header was superb. But he does struggle a bit defensively and one of the reasons the game was so open (joy!) was that he was a tad lazy tracking back. However...this did mean he was available for the counter. Has a good touch, is strong and turns very tightly. He'll get better too.
Morgan: 7.5 Covered a lot of ground and played as a more all-round, old fashioned midfielder. Made quite a few vital blocks and clearances.
Watson: 7.5 So comfortable on the ball and benefited from the 4-4-2, which allowed him to play more of his game higher up.
Kirk: 6 He looks a good player but struggled to get enough ball because we play out to the right (avoiding putting Gunter onto his weaker foot). That's why he tucked inside quite a bit. I did like his positional play when we were out of possession and he looks an intelligent player. Ghosted in well for his shot at goal and you can see him getting quite a few.
Stockley: 8 - Their centre-back pulled him about a bit early on but he didn't let that rattle him. He stayed true to his game and gradually got the upper hand. Took his goal well and only a fantastic save stopped him from getting another. Really good centre-forward. Wish we'd had him in The Championship.
Washington: 8 - The off the ball runs were magnificent and completely threw the Crewe defence out of line. His touches were good, especially for the Stockley goal and he's a really important player for the team. He'll get some goals further down the line but his runs from deep are key.
Elerewe: 8 - Wow! Never seen the lad before but he looks good. Bigger clubs will already be looking at him based on what I saw yesterday. The blend of composure and good defending were very eye-catching.
Referee: 7 - Let the game flow but did seem to miss the early shirt-pulling from Crewe. Overall though, I prefer to see things kept moving, so well done.
Lee: n/a (for interest be happy to see a mark for him but won't count): 6.5 - Maybe a tad unfit (that'll come) but seemed quite bright in his movement and touch. Looks a decent player.
Clare: n/a Showed some excellent touches and looked very sharp. Exactly what you need from a sub late in a game.
