Difficult for the owner to sack a manager after he told him that there would be money to improve the squad then didnt follow through until after the season had started. That's why I believe Adkins hasn't been given the push yet & will be given to at least the International break.
So the back room staff are getting on and working well
TS has clearly invested in the playing side of things and on paper we do have a capable team
That leaves the manager …
Adkins will have his say next week, everyone will say he came over really well, and we'll all still be none the wiser as to where the problem is 🙄
It may well prove that there isn’t in fact much of a problem at all, it just needed a bit of time to adjust and embed in. Performances and results over the next month will tell us that
Another question was why we hadn’t taken any young Prem players on loan.
Gallen keeps up to date with Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham’s u23s, knows of all the players they have. Also mentioned other good academies such as Spurs, Man Utd, Liverpool, maybe one or two more. Gave examples of loans we had in the past, Bielik, Cullen and Maatsen.
He named three or four Chelsea players who we were interested in, two of which they decided to sell in the summer (along with others). Lewis Baker went to Leeds and Myles Peart-Harris went to Brentford. He also mentioned Tino Anjorin who I can see has signed for Lokomotiv Moscow on loan with an option to buy.
He didn’t talk about Levitt, Smith and Smith but seeing where the above players went clearly we were aiming high rather than gambling on players who might step up. When talking about who was available he did mention “this window” (or summer) which suggests these loans are an option in future.
One we missed out on was Miguel Azeez who joined Pompey on loan from Arsenal. He had heard he was going to Pompey and decided not to push for him as we were looking to sign Arter. Harry wanted to sign for us, Gallen didn’t have to try to convince him which has been the case for other players in the past.
The question around left backs was asked. There were a number they talked about bringing in (no names given) but they weren’t convinced improved us. I think there was another option at the end of the window but Gallen decided they’d wait with Soaure coming in. He impressed and he was a player Gallen was aware of for years (and he should have done considering he was a top tier player). Believe Gallen also spoke to Dougie Freedman about him. Expects him to do well for us.
given the current issues and the amount of people venting their views, it seems strange that there's only 87 people on this event - what else are they doing on a tuesday evening ? why not hear it from the horses mouths and discuss rather than just ranting away all day?
It’s Wednesday
There were over 100 at the end, plus some will have had more than one listening in. So probably c120 in total. It is a bit odd when people stick Qs and comments on here and Twitter but don’t actually attend.

I was watching our Under 23’s v Erith and Belvedere. Not my fault you double booked it
The club moved it from original date of 16th Sep.
And we chose tonight not tomorrow to avoid clash with Bromley Addicks.
Plaudits to Ged Roddy for fronting up to fans when he could otherwise have been watching his son play.
If he was responsible for signing him I don’t think he’s ever watched his son play.

You may just be doing a Nepotism joke,(decent TBF !) but Jacob is an 18 year old that should be playing in the Under 23 which he did last night. Crazy to thing Dempsey and Vennings had to play in the Championship 2 years ago (because of an injury crisis) when I'm not convinced they were ready for the U23.
I'm not won over in respect of Roddy on the basis of a few sound bites. The proof of the pudding etc. He recruited Adkins and that's proven to be a poor decision. He's played a significant role in one of the most mismanaged transfer windows we've had in recent years and when one considers Duchatelet etc. that's quite significant. He recruited his son which at best is an error of judgement given the obvious conflict of interest. Our U23's lost to the Deres last night and as much I love them and did so as a kid watching the likes of Brendon Greatorex, Junior Crooks, Tommy Ord etc. we really shouldn't be. I know things take time but nothing to date has given me any confidence in Roddy whatsoever. That he seemingly has Thomas's ear is of greater concern. That Roddy feeds back to the owner on first team games is very worrying. I didn't think the first team was in his remit. That's got to be Adkins, Jacko and Euell surely? I'd love to be proved wrong but I am seriously concerned about Roddy's involvement is having such a negative impact.
Like most who attended I found it very enlightening, and Steve Gallen's passion for the club and his role was absolutely clear. I'm not sure I understand better whether or not anything went "awry" in the window as @Airman Brown suggested a few days ago, or if so, what.. Most of the things all the amateurs on here said they should have been doing, they clearly did. And of course Ipswich did most of their business earlier than us, and a fat lot of good it did them. Yet, here we are, in the relegation zone, and the squad for the first few games is a reason for that.
Ged Roddy is, of course, not the devil incarnate and nor thankfully is he Thomas Driesen. Beyond that, still not sure either way. As for EPPP, as it happens I watched the Panorama that went out on Monday, immediately after this finished, as it is all about EPPP. Some of it is shot on our manor, although we are not mentioned by name, so it's very prescient. What came across to me is that the EPPP is problematic largely because the FAPL is a separate entity. If it was run by a governing body that oversaw all of football, it would have avoided the problems it has created now, yet most of Roddy's "architecture" would still have been used. So the worst aspects of EPPP are not fundamentally his fault.
Which reminds me, Roddy was asked how he got appointed and if there was a recruitment process. He said he met TS before he concluded the sale, and helped Thomas with the ODT, which I thought was interesting. Once done he says TS came back and sounded him out, and he had various interviews at the club. Seems a pretty normal path to me.
Phil, it wasn't sound bites over 92 minutes last night.
Some of your points are valid, and despite coming across well on Zoom, Ged Roddy knows as well as Steve Gallen that football is a results business and if the likes of Kirk, DJ and Lavelle fail at Cafc it reflects poorly on them. Roddy being the architecture of the EPPP may be good for England and the Premier but it really isn't for League 1 clubs who lose players for 400k if stuck in Catergory 2 and can't get a contract before the age of 18 to reflect the years and money to give that kid a football as well as a normal education. Ged did have to keep changing which hats he was wearing when answering that poser.
The quid pro quo of Thomas Sandgaard dipping his hand into his own pocket and seeing off Elliott and Southall is he wants to spend time at Sparrows lane when he is in England. We go from Duchatelet only watching two matches live at the Valley, ( Bolton being one when Rumanian George scored and we won) to Thomas Sandgaard having breakfast with the players and no doubt getting the odd few minutes at LB in training despite being right footed !
Steve Gallen gives more than 100% to Cafc. He has to have 5 targets for each position and then he works his way down the list as some want too much money as the agent wants to get rich for doing very little.
The average fan is so out the loop on transfers and the constant monitoring of players out on loan by Cafc and players on loan at Cafc.
Interesting evening and great to see the body language even though i spotted the dry sense of humour of SG with the Pompey reference and we wouldn't nick a player from them !
I want Cafc to win for Steve's sake and it spoils his life when we don't. Judging by the comments on CL, we are in agreement on that point.

Given you are relying on "sound bites" I assume you didn't listen to the meeting.
TS is clearly closely engaged with all aspects of the club's operation, and immediately after a match, when he is unable to attend, TS can't speak to Adkins because he is doing media and de-briefings, so TS speaks to Roddy for his analysis. Have you checked out Roddy's CV? How does it compare to your's?
TS also speaks to the players, is in the team meetings, pre and post match and probably also speaks to the tea ladies. I would guess Adkins calls TS after every match as soon as he's free. Why are you worried that TS hears Roddy's views instead of just the manager's. Given he hears what Adkins tells the players in the dressing room before and after a game, what negative influence is Roddy inflicting over Adkins' team selection by giving TS another perspective to weigh up when talking to TS after a game?
i think we have an owner who makes it his business to know what all stakeholder's views are, not just those who have his ear, he's not stupid.
Reading between the lines from the meeting I believe the consensus view at the top is that we have a good enough squad, albeit currently with varying levels of fitness (explained by Gallen), to compete for promotion. The manager is in the hot seat with the job of getting them to gel and deliver consistent performances and he is getting full support from Gallen, Roddy and TS - at the moment - but it's a long term project. No evidence anyone, not even Roddy, is driving a separate agenda to pick the team, is undermining Adkins, and responsible for current poor form.
Just another tedious obsession with conspiracy theories rather than choosing to accept, or avoid hearing, the straightforward facts as they are presented.

Then there are the facts we can see for ourselves - one win and five points from eight games, the worse start to a third tier season ever - ie the worst start ever - and the lowest league placing any of us can remember. We can see six changes for one match and seven for the next, which is panic. Then we get a nonsense explanation from Adkins about Saturday-Tuesday despite coming off one international break, no midweek games last week, and another break pending. Spare me the retort that the Trophy game counts.
We don’t have to know WHY to know that all the positivity in the world will be overwhelmed by the WHAT. If we get five to seven points from the next three games there will be a basis to continue with this set-up. If we don’t then IMO it’s madness to do so, however plausible the individuals within it.
Everything the 2 said last night made sense and gives you confidence that there is a long term plan and structure being put in place, with an owner who has all the right intentions and passion. It's whether the theory plays out in reality however and atm its not. SG believes things will turn round and look different in a month or so - Roddy was silent on that. I tend to agree with SG and the message from TS via Roddy was also that he would be sticking with the plan (i.e not sacking Adkins or anybody else) - its what happens in 2 or 3 months time if things haven't picked up that will be interesting. It seems clear that the academy upgrade is the target - it would put us in a great position - 1) we have a great academy 2) we are in a hotbed of talent area 3) we will be able to give the players first team opportunities much quicker than prem or championship clubs. However, how do we fund it? IF we do go for it, it will be a bigger indicator to me that we are on a long term path to success than if we'd done an ipswich this window. We have to do it ion my opinion. We also have to start winning football matches and i think we will.

I had registered to attend but wasn't able to in the end. I'm happy to state I'm going on what was posted afterwards. Perhaps " sound bites " wasn't the best choice of words. However, I'm remain to be convinced as I believe most of us are. I'm not sure that my CV is of any relevance and it is immaterial to my right to comment on how I perceive he is doing his job. If Roddy is feeding back to TS then given that things aren't improving one wonders what feedback he is giving and how useful it is! Clearly TS isn't stupid. I hope he is canvassing the opinions of a number of people. Rightly or wrongly, I believe that Roddy has his ear more than most and perhaps understandably so if TS selected him for the role. I'm not suggesting that Roddy has a separate agenda (although as I mentioned his son that might be a case in point in that respect). Adkins is in the hot seat but as I said Roddy was, I believe, instrumental in his arrival so that link can't be ignored. It's a shame that one can't put forward one's opinion without it being classed as a tedious obsession. I thought it's a bit of healthy debate! We've all got our own views of course and want the best for our club. The straightforward facts at the moment are that we aren't in good shape on the pitch. That hurts and is a real shame given that since TS's arrival virtually almost every other area of the club has been rejuvenated and subsequently in good shape. Sadly, the most important aspect of the club isn't. The building blocks are in place and of course it will take time to turn around years of neglect. However, Adkins really ought to be doing better.
Our U23's lost to the Deres last night and as much I love them and did so as a kid watching the likes of Brendon Greatorex, Junior Crooks, Tommy Ord etc. we really shouldn't be.
Bloody hell, I'm related to Brendan Greatorex (on the wife's side). His whole family support Charlton so it must be him & I never knew.
TS also speaks to the players, is in the team meetings, pre and post match
Was that actually said last night?
It was said last night that TS has attended the debrief with the players. I assume that is on the Monday or Wednesday at Sparrows lane after the previous game.
I don't think any owner would attend a pre match meeting in the top 4 divisions unless it was an emergency of some sort. I don't mean losing matches !

That's good to hear. He had a hell of a shot on him as I recall and probably cleaned his boots at one time back in the day!

Adkins 'proven poor decision' - did you say that when he finished with one loss and the upturn in form?
Avory made the decision to add Jacob Roddy following a trial.

Brendon was playing mens football for Plumstead Maybloom when he was only 15.Very good player.
Having just caught up on the full video I can’t help but feel a bit more encouraged. I honestly believe everyone at the club as our best interests at heart and nobody has any alterior motives as has been case under past regiems.
It may be the case that some of the recruitment in terms of both staffing on and off the pitch has left a little to be desired but I’m confident we will get there with this lot.
Stating the obvious I know but we desperately need a few decent results and i reckon we could get on a roll.
As a side note one thing that did come across in the interview was that when the “Elephant in the room” question was addressed they didn’t leap to the defensive of Adkins in way that made me think he has a full vote of confidence.

His whole family support Charlton so it must be him & I never knew.
It was said last night that TS has attended the debrief with the players. I assume that is on the Monday or Wednesday at Sparrows lane after the previous game.
I don't think any owner would attend a pre match meeting in the top 4 divisions unless it was an emergency of some sort. I don't mean losing matches !
Avory made the decision to add Jacob Roddy following a trial.
Just hoping TS has the bottle to admit it if it turns out to be the case 🤷♀️

It may be the case that some of the recruitment in terms of both staffing on and off the pitch has left a little to be desired but I’m confident we will get there with this lot.
Stating the obvious I know but we desperately need a few decent results and i reckon we could get on a roll.
