  • Lehecka breaks for 6-5 and will serve for the match
  • Lehecka wins 6-4 4-6 7-5
  • Lehecka has looked really impressive this week.
  • Jack Draper has tonsilitis.

I wonder if it because there really is no respite from the relentless tour, apart from a few weeks at the end of the year.

Players are understandably reluctant to miss the odd tournament as it affects their ranking. More injuries and more injury time-outs than I remember previously.

Alex De Minaur has spoken about struggling and there are plenty of other examples

I think something has to give.

Cash and Glasspool through to the semis in the doubles.

Will play the winners of Stevenson and Willis v Helioevaara and Patten.
The Finn and Brit beat the two Brits and will play Cash and Glasspool.
Cash and Glasspool through to the final. Will play Mektic and Venus.

Shame Draper lost but overall a good tournament for him especially as he is ill.

I thought Lehecka was very impressive - I would have guessed higher than 30

More likely due to tonsil tennis than raquet tennis.

    ?

  • Yes, I know what it is, But unclear why you thing that is what gave him tonsilitis

Can tonsillitis be caused by being run down?
Although this bacteria usually exists in the throat and mouth without causing any harm, it can start to cause symptoms if the immune system is under strain. If a person is stressed, exhausted or has already been infected with a virus, for example, the immune system may be weakened.

I think it was meant as a whimsical aside rather than a serious diagnosis.

    very odd!
  • My two sons regularly caught tonsillitis and it was always after they had been kissing some new girl a few days before.

I used to get it a lot when I worked shifts, notably nights and was run down and working in a control room. It certainly wasn't from kissing new boys. Or even new girls.

On a serious note (as the NHS website confirms it can be triggered by being run down), I do think the tennis scheduling needs to be improved as the current situation is causing unnecessary physical and mental suffering

Well done Cash and Glasspool. Doubles champions at Queens.

Katie Boulter does a good professional job of taking a very competitive first set against Sonay Kartal but then can't get a ball into court for 5 and a half games of the 2nd set
Is looking down the barrel of a very swift Kartal equaliser.   When KB's level drops it goes off the edge of a cliff, weird.
Same happened against McCartney Kessler in the next round. A break up in the third - loses 4 games in a row to exit tournament.  Losing to MK is no disgrace but the manner of the decline and its suddenness were just weird.

A real shame cos KB has a fine all court game, not just on grass, she's a proper athlete but seems incapable of managing the inevitable lulls in her form or bursts from the other side of the net.

I remember seeing Andy Murray collapse against Nadal. He managed to turn it around, let’s hope Boulter can too.

Only all British male pair to win the doubles at Queens in the Open Era (since 1967 or thereabouts). The Lloyd brothers, David and John, were losing finalists in 1978.
  • Wimbledon qualifying this week. Paul Jubb won his first match and Ryan Peniston won his too as has a lesser known name Oliver Tarvet.

I think they need to win two more matches to qualify.

Dart, Burrage, Radacanu, Kartal and Xu in action at the Women's event. Jones through yesterday.
  • was reading about the US Open doubles

what a kick in the teeth for the normal doubles players
  • Raducanu not playing well and lost the first set despite have a couple of mini breaks in the tie break.

Her movement looks poor- not going for shots and when at the net barely going for volleys, just sticking her racquet and  not stretching at all

    Still got back issues?
