Part of the problem is that people understandably calibrate from official attendance figures for league games, which are massively overstated even when there aren’t large numbers of comps, because of absentee season ticket holders. If we were announcing under 7,000 for Accrington or 8,000 for Rotherham, expectations might be more realistic. But I am not criticising the methodology.

    That’s 4K more than I expected.

Sad reflection on the state of the FA Cup if that's enough to keep people away.

Hard to estimate and you have to take account of bulk printed tickets which are included (for emergencies if the system fails on the day) and any unsold hospitality reservations, but if we get to half the seats in the open blocks being unavailable I reckon that’s about 9,000 home fans. I would say the west lower is well beyond that already. Only G, H and A have significant seats left (although G and H are pretty empty).

Or is the sad reflection the fact that clubs put out "reserve" side for FA Cup games?

Spot on mate, the FA Cup used to be about glory and giant killings. No such thing now. If a small team beats a team above them it cannot be compared as the bigger team will have made so many changes.

Oh for the days when Hereford best Arsenal, Yeovil was a feared place to go and Sutton were a dangerous draw.

The likes of Wigan, Millwall etc would not be anywhere near Wembley if the teams they played to get there fielded full strength sides

Its all about staying in the PL now and competing in Europe for the top 20 teams. The FA Cup is a distraction they don’t need

  • a lot of people won't buy until they've got a clear LFT on Saturday or even Sunday morning, and mobile ticketing makes that a load easier.

Except we haven't the last 2 rounds, and Jackson said he wouldn't on Sunday. If you can't be arsed to go, just own it, stop pretending it's because we won't have a good team out. We have fans crying about the club never taking the cup seriously, and then never attending cup matches anyway.

Not aimed specifically at you Six, it's just an easy excuse that's getting thrown around a lot and it winds me up.

Yeh, I was talking generally really, not specifically about us.
I'll be there Sunday in any case

Despite having huge squads of very talented players. It’s a lame excuse that they play too many games.

Players themselves rarely if ever make that complaint to be fair. It’s managers who do.

The only legitimate concern for me is travelling fatigue and logistics but again for the pampered life of the PL (big) teams even that is a stretch as a legitimate excuse.

It’s not financially important enough is the bottom line I suspect.

Agreed. Even being at 2 rather than 3 makes a surprising difference!
  • Limited availability (gone to red) now showing for the following blocks:

    East Block E
    West Blocks B, C and D
    North J and K

Suspect East Block D and West block E might be next ones to go red.
  • we have a 'code red, code red', Croydon will be pleased

Jonny Williams on the bench for Swindon, with them hosting Man City tonight.

Man City might not want to rely on their bench to win tonight - Laporte and Carson the only senior players

Although the starting eleven has a little bit of talent I'm sure

Feel a bit sorry for City, Covid has hit them hard, they’ve only 426 million pounds worth of players in their starting lineup.
  • I mean they keep banging on about how foreign players come here and need to understand what it's like with minnows playing the big boys etc.

Every top League has this, you'll have Copa Del Rey games with 3rd and 4th tier teams getting to play one of the Madrid teams, or the Coupe de France where a team from Reunion island or Martinique could end up playing Lyon or PSG, it's no different really

Think its awesome how the Coupe de France has that in their format, where the league winners from their oversea territories enter the competition at one of the early rounds - Its a shame we dont do similar.
  • What on earth was the Swindon keeper and defence doing there! Sunday league stuff.
  • It was the amount of time the keeper and defender spent arguing about it before they did it that got me.
  • You can really see the difference in levels between the top end of football and lower leagues.

Literally looks like adults v under 15s.
  • I think Sunday is going to be a nice day and understandably people are reluctant to commit until the day as has been said. It won't be a sell out but should be a decent attendance.
  • Can't wait for this. Love the FA Cup.

If you can't get up for an FA Cup tie against a premier league side then what is the point of following this miserable club...solely for 3rd division league games against Morecambe and Cheltenham zzzz.

A bit of light relief from another turgid season in a turgid league before next year's turgid campaign.  May as well go on a cup run as we'll do nothing in the league this year.
    This.

Our season is virtually over (apart from looking over our shoulder & making sure we dont get sucked back into a relegation scrap) and we only have the Cup competitions to look forward to.

The players can relax & play football  as there is no pressure on them. Also fans can just enjoy the day without thinking how the result will impact our position in the table.

  • Like the look of Swindon's no 22. A bit like DJ. Did we buy the wrong player by mistake last season...??
  • Yep, he's been the stand out so far for me as well. Nice tackle from him (on Walker?) to win the ball back there.
  • Kane Kessler, only 18
