Anyone recognise this book?

By an unknown fan 73/74. Sample pages below and quite a few photos in the back. I think it’s a real work of love. If the museum wants it, I’ll drop it in. Be nice if it could be reunited with its author as well. Aah, Bowman’s hair ❤️

Awesome work by the author and yes, please drop it off at the museum.
  • Horsfield, Hales, Flanagan, Peacock and Powell in the same season?

    Those were the days.

If it had a 'Players marks' page there would only be one possible owner.  Passing the book round the playground with express instructions not to write any comments in the margin!

What's interesting as well is the relative fortunes of the clubs in the same division - I make it 8 of them are currently non-league or been refounded.

If I had to profile the person, I'd say they are partial to an Excel spreadsheet in their spare time

Someone tell him it's brought not bought.
  • Love the graph of attendances over the season which averaged 5,658. You just know that when he started this he, like us all, had hopes of seeing the line rise steadily as the club gained promotion....

Average Attendance 5,658 in a crumbling old ground in the third tier with an owner with no ambition.

    The good old days ?

Only for teenage kids with acne, long hair, flares, and testosterone.

A labour of love for someone.
All of the below were barely out of nappies except for Lancs Lad !

    Lancashire lad 6/4
    Airman Brown 15/8
    Steve Dixon 2/1
    Bob Munro 5/2
    Henry 3/1
    Covered end 7/2
    Chizz 5/1
    Clive 8/1
    Blackpool 14/1
    Curbs 16/1( mandatory)
    20/1 bar

  • Ah that’s so lovely
  • Lovely find. Simpler times, but you can bet your life some kid somewhere has a spreadsheet running with much of the same info on it. Probably with a column for xG's or some such impenetrable nonsense on it too though.

Hope it gets reunited with it's author soon.

that average attendance is pretty embarrassing.

my nan when she was a kid used to do something similar but it was to do with cricket games she went to. She went on to keep score for many a match over the years.

When people donate scrapbooks like this we ask the family to put a note in them telling us the name of the person and some background as that puts the donation into some context and ads so much to the story.

As fellow trustee @cafc999 has already said, the museum would love to have it.

River Ale House guy is a good call on the creator @charltonnick

Lovely item, remember some of those games as a kid.
  • Peter Hunt in the defenders column?

Fantastic effort and great memories. When footballers were allowed to be characters too - Killer, Arthur, Paddy, Ship Ship Shipperley etc etc

I love that the writer was pessimistic in drawing up the attendance graph and was caught off guard by the 11,414 bumper January harvest!

I did use to keep Charlton graphs and records when I was about 10 years old, so it's not dissimilar.
I did have to look twice to be sure it wasn't my work.
I reckon they were about 10 years old, so would be late 50's now.

I remember the Bristol R New Years game as it was double the normal crowd 5k to 11k & Rovers were top.
Someone named Howell or something similar scored a hat trick in Brighton's 0-4 win.
The 3-3 at home to Shrewsbury was our first ever Sunday game due to the 3 day week/power strikes/whatever they were called.
Played Sunday lunch time/late morning as no floodlights were available.
My dad bought me a S/T that year and I've had one ever since.

That Sunday game was odd.  My recollection is that the Club were not allowed to charge for admission as Sunday 'trading' hadn't been invented at the time.

So, the game was only available to Club members.

Luckily, you could take out Club membership for the day ... curiously for exactly the same price as the usual cost of admission.

Yes, was membership obtained by buying a programme?
I seem to recall a 7,200 crowd, better than the usual 5,000 odd.

The Shrewsbury game admission was by membership of the Robins Club.

I absolutely love the badge like that.

When we brought out the third kit this season I was hoping that we were going to go back to a permanent lack of concentric circles.

It looks so much more classy to have just the sword. By all means write CAFC or Charlton Athletic underneath.

Excellent work by the 'scrapee' and museum.

I can say now that the museum can definitely have my scrapbooks when I'm gone.  Maybe sooner - I shall think about that.
