Paul Doswell: "Really disappointed with the Charlton support today. We were hoping for 10,000 but it wasn't many. For them not to turn up and support us as well.... Clubs like us rely on finances and teams like Charlton putting together a decent crowd."#coyh#cafc
The fuck? Sorry Paul, I didn't realise it was my job to keep your shitty non-league team alive.
Haha...Paul Doswell showing himself up to be a bit of a prick here! Behave yourself mate. You had a good day out, earnt a few quid, got beat. Good luck for the rest of the season, now piss off!
Classic case of sour grapes from Doswell.
On the penalty he said:
“You can’t have double jeopardy, the fact he’s had a free shot at goal and it’s gone wide – you shouldn’t then bring it back for a penalty.“
That's not what happened at all. The ball ran free from the blatant foul and our immediate shot was blocked. There was no advantage.
In the pre match interview that I saw he never mentioned the anticipated bumper attendance other than he said there would be over 1,000 Havant fans in the away end, which there wasn't.
Reminder that we're Ball No.33 in the draw for the Second Round.
Buxton (L7) are the lowest team left in the competition but can yet be joined by Banbury (who are playing Barrow on ITV now) and Stratford Town who play tomorrow against Shewsbury.
Draw will be live on ITV during the game between Dag & Red v Salford on Monday night.
Dagenham & Redbridge away would be giid
Buxton away would be better.
P.S. @RedChaser it would have to be the Porsche - the limo is in fo service!
Port vale away would be a nice shirt commute 😁
Blimey, how big is your walk-in wardrobe so that you have to worry about how far your shirts are apart?

Perhaps you need to look closer to home Doswell
Double jeopardy is if there has been a genuine attempt to play the ball but you foul a player in the penalty area, a penalty is awarded but the player is not sent off. i.e two punishments for one offence. If it is not an attempt to play the ball, both a penalty and a sending off. Staggering a manager would not know this. Probably even more surprising he does not know the laws about playing advantage.
Ebbsfleet or Bromley would have added another 4-5K to the gate IMO
We don’t do cup runs
The FA cup has been diluted by bigger clubs using them as a reserve team game
Also diluted by ridiculous Wembley semi finals, removing the special feeling of getting to a Wembley cup final
Also diluted by moving the final kick off from its traditional 3pm to satisfy TV
They are no win situations, win 4-0 like we did, we are told no big deal you were excepted too, draw or scrape a win, we are told we are s***, away fans from non league clubs always going to come and make more noise as it’s affectively their cup final
When we were going up to Blackburn for the Darren Pitcher FA cup game, didn’t curbs say something about playing in front of 35 thousand and then it turned out to be half that? This isn’t a new phenomenon.
For the FA Cup, yes. That's why the non league teams would sometimes give up home advantage if they got a big club in the later rounds, as the income from the gate in a much bigger stadium went a long way. Away teams used to get a (smaller) cut from league games as well, but that got changed when I was a kid iirc. Not sure what the deal is for League Cup, Papa Johns etc these days though.
Deji gave Akin a bit of a passing lesson yesterday. When he plays a sideways pass he always passes in front of the player, which provides forward momentum. Basic stuff, but he’s the only one who does it regularly.
And when he plays a through ball he always sticks loads of back spin on it, which holds the ball up. Love to see it.
Would like to see Burstow getting more runouts in the first team. Looks athletic, and can finish.
Looking at the player marks, it appears that Morgan and Kirk are offering nothing additional to say Watson and CBT. One player being a walker and the other on a short term contract. Really not good.
First goal: Lovely little cross from Kirk, not to mention to create the space for himself Second goal: Havant Manager is on Lee Johnson twat levels to think that was double jeopardy Third goal: Was Souare's going in or was it going back to the Goalkeeper, good instincts from Jayden
Fourth goal: Best of the lot, thought from commentary that Burstow had ran clear against the Goalkeeper, but actually had a lot of work to do to keep an eye on the defender and then had a to finish at an angle
Didn't realise the covered end was so empty. Hopefully we only play away for any subsequent rounds, as that attendance is embarrassing.
Sod that, another home game against non league opposition will do nicely. I enjoyed the day, as I suspect did the others that made the effort. If others can’t be bothered to turn up that’s their loss but it wouldn’t surprise me if more do make the effort next round. A long distance away game, live on TV on a Friday night or the Sunday because of the chance of a giant killing and in a small ground that will only accommodate a couple of hundred away fans at most is what would look embarrassing

Keep getting those smaller sides all the way to the final please.
Doswell is a prat and anybody else who is surprised by that attendance need to wake up - those that have attended every one of these type of games over many many years knew it would be a very low attendance and also knew why they weren't going - the cup needs a sort out - three quarters of our support clearly agree.
I have to say that I do have some sympathy for H&W regarding the attendance.
Would we not feel a bit cheated if we got Man U or Spurs away in the third round, only to find that only a third of their normal home fans turned up?
Personally, I'm as baffled as the H&W manager.
Why are you baffled? Years of FA Cup failure and managers and players not taking it seriously - supporters have had enough.
This. A million times over.
Im sick to death of us not taking the cups seriously. In over 50 years of support, you can count the number of decent cup runs we have had on the fingers of one hand.
Wouldn't it be great if we could make the 3rd round this year and draw one of the really big boys at the Valley. A sell out crowd and the chance to remind ourselves ofwhat this club could become again over the next few years.
thought souare played just okay 6/10, i still believe he has a nice left foot. thought he scored the 3rd but would've been cleared off the line if not for stockley.
I was guilty when adkins left of believing it should have been the lot gone and a fresh start made
How wrong i was ! After the last few games it has confirmed the fact i just love jacko in charge of our team and the feeling it gives the club and all of us even listening to him speak before and after games just feels right
even with any bad results i just feel we will always at least give it a good go and feels right having proper charlton in charge with jacko/euell! I would take this combo even if we spend the next few years down here and building
I think I am right in highlighting this mini factor. Mason Burstow scored both with his first single touch in first team football, and yesterday with his first involvement in the game, albeit with a couple or three touches to set himself up! Mason, it won’t happen every game, and I also think fan expectation ought to be coupled with realism. Really great to see Elewere and Burstow make such a positive contribution, let’s hope they continue to develop. In my view both have a very good chance of making it.
Not sure why the opposition manager expected a bigger attendance from us. The club has treated the competition with a lack of respect for many years and our cup record is probably one of the worst. That is even under managers like Powell. Although we win a couple of games and we start to get interested! It is just it is rare to do so.
What he could have been disappointed with, or at least should have been was the numbers from his own supporters. It used to be the case where nearly the whole town turned up when a non league team faced a bigger club. Sadly the competition is a devalued one. It is sad that it is, but that is the truth of it.
13 out of the 20 record attendances in England are (were) in the fa cup and only 5 in the league - the other 2, in european competitions - when i first started going, a star player was sometimes rested in the league a week before the cup as it was so important to stay in it whereas a league game loss could be made up for - money allocation in the game and the lack of a reserve league has lead to the demise but could be sorted out.

Good post, you can add to that in the days you are talking about fans used to turn up in big numbers when playing a smaller team knowing full well you were adding a few quid into their percentage of the gate money.
Sadly this attitude no longer applies at some clubs, we even had fans on here saying they never even knew the gate money was split.
For older but young at heart CL members the great Ipswich team under Robson were two down to Cafc with goals from Hales and Robinson early doors. Class told in the end but a great FA cup match in front of a big crowd and Ipswich played their 1st team who Cafc pushed to the very end before Ipswich got a deflected winner to take the game 3-2 at the Valley.
The FA cup was magic but when Man utd were allowed to play in some international match and miss the FA cup it was an insult to the greatest domestic cup tournament in the world; Not sure it has ever recovered.
Don’t have a great deal of sympathy for Havant regarding the attendance. They brought under 1000 down for what is one of the biggest cup games in their recent history.
They took 6,000 to Anfield in the past. I’m not saying I expect them to do the same for Charlton, but their turnout wasn’t exactly what it could have been.
And for those away fans who did make the trip, they spent half the game just trying to goad Charlton fans rather than sing about their own club.
To the Havant manager - if you’re going to fuck about bringing on substitute goalkeepers to put up front then don’t expect fans to take the competition too seriously.
For me this is a hangover from a prolonged period of wafer thin squads, (and secondary the match day experience) the dregs of which were rolled out and rolled over to ‘lesser’ opposition on a regular basis
not forgetting it’s the first round, which we’ve only fairly recently started having to appear in - in modern times

Sounded like they've got an injury crisis going by their commentary team, they had no choice to do that.
I must admit when I look at our league games and it says the crowd is 12,000 it certainly doesn't look like it.....I think the RD years have taken its toll regarding our support
I think they count season ticket holders in league games, even if we dont turn up.
