Malan didn’t need to bring his bat near the shot, let alone come down to pitch that early. Pope’s dismissal was the worst of the lot. Followed by Buttler’s.
Our record at the Gabba is shocking but at start of play this morning they had a real opportunity to take the game away from Australia…and they failed.
Cricket does my head in sometimes. Spectators have to sit around for 40 mins when the players could h6e out there finishing the game off. It will only take 3 or 4 overs - 20 mins or so.
I half wish we’d have just crumbled yesterday and it would have saved me the hope
It would have been half acceptable if they’d taken the new ball and blown us away but the fact we were cooked by Lyon and Green with the old ball is absolute bollocks.
So fucking predictable. This is absolutely textbook England and has been for 90% of my lifetime. Pathetic English batting collapses are one of the most reliable occurrences in this topsy turvy world.
It's the hope that kills you. Knowing England Root and Malan will probably add single figures to their overnight totals before we are skittled for 270!
The top order group are very poor. The rest bar Root have flashes of quality but are so inconsistent. Inconsistency in top level cricket means you'll lose most you play. When we were good in recent years, yes we'd have inconsistency but there would always be two or three who would dig in when their team mates were floundering and get the job done. The following test it would be a different two or three that would drive us on. We just don't have that anymore.
Turned on the radio about half 5 this morning, caught the last wicket falling and thought we had done well to bat throughout the day with some sort of dignified lead. It was the highlights reel and it was all over hours earlier….
Woke up yesterday and was pleasantly surprised but still the odds were on for an innings defeat. Thank god I don’t bet much as despite all evidence to the contrary I thought we may have got a 200 lead.
woke up this morning after a shit night of domestic arguments to find out normal service had been resumed.
what we all expected, a heavy defeat inflicted by a talented and better prepared Aussie team, aided and abetted by a poorly prepared, captained and selected England team. Little respite before the second test, let's hope England have some time time for both rest (the pace bowlers) and practice for the batsmen, it is sorely needed .. and a note to the England batsmen, this is TEST cricket and not a one day merry bash, do your jobs properly and start to earn your big salaries
Our batsmen - sorry ‘batters’ - have failed over and over again this year in two series against India and against NZ and now this.
No surprise when they barely play any cricket other than international cricket.
Silverwood must go.
His rotation policy is ridiculous. These players barely play any cricket. If you can’t play 5 tests then you shouldn’t be in the squad.
Been found wanting at this level. Maybe it was Porter/Harmer consistently getting 100 wickets a season that gave him success at county level rather than his tactical and coaching nous.
Why is it we always go into an Ashes tour under prepared?
When the Aussies come to us, half their squad have been playing county cricket, they have half a dozen tour matches, etc
When we go there, do we get the same assistance?
If not, why the hell do we offer them an advantage?
Some of the squad were at the T20 WC. It's not the same white ball prep as red. The rest have only been able to play and practice against people in their bubble because of Covid restrictions. Again it's not the same because you're batting and bowling against players should already know everything about. Also, because of Covid and the WC being moved, it meant a very short period of time before the 1st Test.
It would not have been any different though for a lot of the Aussies though - Warner, Smith, Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood all played in the WC Final
Saw “Australia 20/1” on Google scorecard and was like “get in, must’ve batted most of the day and got an early wicket before stumps.” Nope, then saw the “Australia won by 9 wickets”. Ffs.

Woakes caught behind off Green.
Australia need 20 to win.
Pathetic that we couldn't even get to 300

Carey edges Robinson behind to the keeper.
