Atmosphere was superb, so much for the worries about 'plastics'.

Should drop all ST prices next season, like Bradford City have done, to get as many in as possible week in week out.
Never understood that dig about ‘plastics’, the free ticket offer went out to Charlton season ticket holders so the likelihood was the majority of the tickets would have gone to people who may have had more than a passing interest and probably would have come along before to a game or two…
In fact, can’t say I noticed any ‘plastics’ not getting behind Charlton near where I was

Proof will be in the pudding when the minimum price  for the next Saturday home game against Cambridge on the 11th December is 23 pounds a game for an adult.

Going from a freebie to 23 pounds, 2 weeks before Christmas is a massive jump
  • Think a lot of money was made on the 'extras' Crossbars was heaving had 600 people in there and still queuing outside, guest ale -Doom Bar- was sold out by 1.30
Numbers wise it didn’t feel any different to other home games (ie it normally feels full) but it was actually easier to get a drink today than normal. Two trips to the bar and no queues for either.

It's a loss leader in a way too - yeah people might spend a bit less on a ticket but they buy food and drink in the ground, they buy a programme, they get a shirt because they are going....
Yes but because the bars have never been able to deal with even 50% of capacity making us full will not have made a 100% difference.  I would normally have a beer at half time did not bother today.

Not as many as that really, but believe it could have been seats allocated.

I think the bar staff were at the top of their game today. I even managed to get a pint at half time in the covered end (lower north to those that don’t know and think the upper north is also the covered end) and that can be a struggle if you also want to drink it and get back to your seat for the second half kick off

One thing that I didn’t like was the ‘piggy’s pantry’ (?) signs that stated it was 100% Scottish BEEF. I was going to get something to eat before I saw that. Pigs ain’t BEEF.

What was the announced attendance today?
Wasn’t it announced as a sell out a day or two ago? If so that’ll be the announced attendance (I reckon there were actually about 24/25k actually there which is better than I expected).
Watching on the stream there were really quite a few empty West Stand seats empty, so I’d guess no more than 24k but still excellent. The whole day brilliant. I did not dare to think it would be possible. Glad Thomas was there to experience it. Can’t think of another owner who would so personally lead from the front with such an initiative. Maybe Andy Holt, but he doesnt have the big ambition or or the wallet.

How much was doom bar a pint

Credit where credit is due, if you were part of the bar staff in the lower north or In Crossbars after the game then well done

Can’t call them plastics anymore. They’re molded synthetic polymers now.

  • What ever the actual attendance it was a cracking atmosphere/game.

  • Was great seeing the stadium busy again and made even better by a quality performance and atmosphere.

They need to do some work on getting people into stadium a bit quicker, as queues were really long and slow moving for the West Stand.

In the end they opened the exit gates to try and get everyone in faster. My season ticket was stuck in my pocket, but I got let in by showing the steward my Gaye Bykers on Acid ticket from the night before!
  • Pal of mine who sits next to me in covered end lower bought a Millwall mate (I know, I know) and an NI based Rangers fan, both really enjoyed it.

    @shirty5 £5 a pint mate
  • Fantastic initiative and so great to have the crowds flocking down Floyd Road.
Small point though not of criticism but puzzlement. Why was the game shown as sold out when clearly given the large blocks of empty seats together it wasn’t? Can’t be that those that got the free tickets then didn’t use them were all with seats together?
More of the same going forward though.

The profit on the extra spend is relatively trivial because of the cost of sale and the people who spend nothing. It’s unlikely to be £2 per head on average. The value of a zero priced ticket is in repeat purchase, which potentially is a huge multiplier effect.

I would guess that yesterday cost the club about £50k in lost ticket revenue. You might regard that as a worthwhile investment (it was certainly successful in its own terms) but if you keep doing it then the likely effect will be to increase losses, not reduce them.

There are other ways of doing it that don’t cost anything like the same money, however.
