“We can continue to do things the way it is normally done and keep losing many millions every year. Or we can take some initiatives and invest in filling the stadium, then build on that to get a better revenue streams from the catering – food and beer – and selling more, and better, sponsorships, as well as more merchandise. Otherwise it is going absolutely nowhere. Then it is just a big black hole and a question of how much money I want to lose.
“I’m trying in a lot of ways not to do that. Just look at the previous owners over the past several decades. They have been able to accumulate non-operating loss, they call it an NOL, of more than £100million. So, doing things the way they used to be done in the past is not an option for me. We have to change the way we think – on the football side as well as on the business side.
“One of the more visible initiatives is fill the stadium”
Good luck to him, can’t argue with that
Fair enough but promotion is still the best way to get more people in the ground. Attendances will really struggle next year if (when) we are still down here regardless. Can’t really blame him for that though I guess, he wasn’t to know Adkins was a dud.
Agree with others that initiatives don’t make me feel ripped off with a ST. Games are better when the ground is full.
The fans will need to get behind the players and continue to do so throughout the whole game, regardless of what happens - Even if we are being outplayed and unfortunately concede early.
I doubt any whinging will take place. We're all on the same side and it's obvious the squad, management and everyone attached, all want to do well and turn things around now.
They will need the support and backing tomorrow, whatever happens.
The beauty of this kind of event is it has little cost on the day and utilises existing untapped resources, marketing and distribution network = season ticket holders, I note there is also a new lounge experience being launched at this moment.
There are other elements I'd like to be developed more for ftv via the new group like making sure the matchday xp is up to scratch and can cope with the influx, and some broader and deeper engagement/better comms, and clearer strategy, but I won't knock this initial effort and if given the opportunity will feedback on the latter. Rome wasn't built in a day I guess.
You can only go so far with these offers, otherwise you will be undercutting Season Ticket holders.
That would not go down well.
It is funny how we can all feel differently over something. I have felt it has been a genuine perk of being a season ticket holder to able to offer friends the opportunity to come and see a game for free.

Over a season, not a one off game. I’ve already said on here tomorrow is a good idea.
Don’t know if this is the right place to do this, but I’ve been having some mental health problems and being staying away from the web, thinking I’d still be able to nab two free tickets for my dad and brother once I was better. Only gone and sold out did any one get there free tickets prematurely and able to do me a massive favour.

I am a season ticket holder but don’t care if in some convoluted way my interest is diminished by this kind of offer. I would be happy to see it more often because I think such initiatives generate permanent supporters for the future.
Exactly my thoughts. This offer directly benefits ST holders too, as they have three extra tickets each. I took my three kids to the Cheltenham game and that cost me an extra 30 odd quid, so it's a great deal for families.
As it goes, I couldn't get the kids along to this one in the end, but have passed my tickets on. I have no problem with that as someone is taking their kid and the other person just really wanted to go.
Good luck to anyone trying to get a beer or a burger at half time though. It's been almost impossible most games in the covered end unless you want to miss the last 10mins of the first half!

According to the website there is 1 ticket left. I just hope those who have a ticket turn up.
Plenty won't, as others have said attendance will be given as 27,000 by the club however actual fans in the stadium probably around 25k. Still a cracking turn out.

Yes there are loads of wankers doing this every week who then come back 10 minutes after the second half has started. Boils my piss, having to keep getting up and down to let these idiots past.
I too am a season ticket holder; which of these two scenarios do you think is better?
Option 1: A few thousand season ticket holders and a half-empty stadium.
Option 2: A few thousand season ticket holders and thousands of complementary tickets/giveaways, a full stadium, a bigger, better atmosphere and the chance that some of those 'free ticket' beneficiaries go on to become season ticket holders/Charlton fans in the future.
I'm up for option 2 myself. If it benefits the club, then I'm all for it; growing the fanbase is obviously a big benefit in my eyes and I'm glad that TS has the vision to see this and lay the foundations for it with events like this. If I'm theoretically out of pocket, I couldn't care less; same as if others get reduced price/free tickets due to their circumstances.
The more Charlton fans, the better, as far as I'm concerned. Welcome one, welcome all.

I agree, but the one caveat I’d add is that if the free ticket initiative continues then I won’t bother getting a season ticket next season.
I don’t know how many other fans would be thinking the same, but a season ticket is my largest expense each year and it’s not worth the money if a can get in on the cheap every other week.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat, I don't break even at £400. Will be getting a half instead next year, or the Jackson 5 that will be probably be offered after Xmas.

Help (edit) them out
