  • Phil Neal at full back? One of the most decorated players of all time.

8 league titles and 4 European cups!
Shoo-in at right back, other choices are nowhere near as good.
    Not even Brian Laws?

Not doing a team bit see there are no mentions for likes of Kevin Keegan , Graeme Souness, Vialli, Mancini, Ray Wilkins, Stuart Pearce, Brian Clough, Di Canio, Michael Laudrup, Ossie Ardilles, Glenn Hoddle etc
Clough was on that I thought of too late.  Paulo Sousa?  Did he manage in the prem?

Who was Neil Warnocks long time assistant and did he ever get a proper Premier league gig?  He was a goalkeeper.

George Graham was a good player, as to was David O'Leary.  Howard Kendal, Alan Ball, Colin Harvey, Joe Royal?  Gus Poyet.  Two time European Cup winner Martin O'Neil.   Trevor Francis.
  • What's pretty obvious, whoever makes the team, is that there would be a starting line-up that would be virtually unbeatable. The keeper would be irrelevant with a stellar defence and midfield, and goals a plenty.
  • Who would be in the current one?

Say if we made it anyone who has managed this season so they can have a keeper.

                        Nuno
    Klopp, Bruce, Moyes, Potter
                    Guardiola
           Conte, Vieira, Arteta
                      Gerrard
                   Hassenhuttl

  • Not sure you can leave Pep out of any midfield. Won La Liga 6 times, Copa del Rey, Spanish Supercup, Champions League, Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup as well as an Olympic gold medal. Wonderful player.
All very true, but in his position there is also Roy Keane.
Very different players. Guardiola was arguably the best player in Johann Cruyff's Barcelona Dream Team operating as the pivot, whereas Keane was much more dynamic. Keane is remembered as a defensive midfielder but he was much more aggressive in his positioning than what we'd consider a holding midfielder to be now. He was much more of a box to box player, he was just a more capable midfielder than most at screening his defence in a 4-4-2. I think you'd quite happily have both in a team with Keane doing a lot of Guardiola's running giving him space to move the ball around. What a world that would be.
  • Casual reminder.

Curbs is a legitimate option for the squad

    British 11

    Gunn
    Neal  Adams  Bruce   Pearce
    Gerrard   Lampard   Robson   Giggs
    Shearer Dalglish

    Subs
Adkins (!), Southgate, Clarke, Ince, Hoddle, Hughes, Keegan

Very decent team that, other than the sub goalie. Wilkins and Strachan unlucky to not make the bench. Alex McLeish is another option at the back

  • No one mentioned Trevor Brooking?
