May be sheer coincidence but the previous 3 games we did this for TS was at the game and I suspect this will be the case on Saturday. The one home league game we have not done this for was Wycombe and TS was not in attendance for that
Correct me if I’m wrong . All of these offers are only available to Season Ticket holders ignore the rest of this waffle if I’m wrong
No season ticket = no BOGOF or freebie
the benefit for all these offers is to the season ticket holders /friends .
we all have different views and financial positions re Charlton .
when Roland was in I couldn’t spend any less now TS is in I’m a lot more carefree with what I spend at Charlton but obviously not everyone is in that position and they’d like to be able to get in cheaper understandably but our money is going to fund our love which is Charlton .
Would everyone prefer that there were no offers next season for season ticket holders or do they want their friend to buy one season ticket and hope there are plenty of offers and free seats available to cherry pick .
of course I think even if you paid a couple of quid to people to come to watch this shit we couldn’t fill the ground .
And yes it isn’t the best thought out of offers made by the club but it is only a benefit available for season ticket holders thereby imo increasing the value of having a season ticket not decreasing it as plenty seem to think

We did do it for Wycombe albeit a little more subtly.

Fair point. Just could be the case staff inside the club feel the need to get the numbers up the nearer the fixture comes up and tickets sales are low.
That is what is odd about all of these offers, they are done AFTER the tickets have gone on sale, so you do have non season ticket holders who maybe purchase early and then subsequently find out they could have got a freebie/reduced price one. That is not good for going forward as early purchasers may hold of buying and not come at all (weather, other things come up, cant get the specific seat they want)
Everyone will have a different take on this offer depending on their own sitiuation. What may be bad for an individual could be good for the club and/or the majority of fans. Since TS has been so generous with these offers I am teetering on thinking that I would have been better off buying a season ticket...too late now. My thinking at the beginning of the season was the same as many before- season tickets are expensive (east stand) and I will miss one or two games plus there has been "game for £5" offers, plus I can move seats to wherever I want to (prefer a quick exit for midweek games so West stand upper for those). However I assumed seat supply will exceed demand. This season I would have saved a lot of money with the 3 for 1 season ticket type offer as I have 4 sons,(they don't all attend all the time- but I usually have 2+ with me). So I've been buying 3-5 tickets. On top of that the choice of seats is severely restricted by the demand from season ticket holders.Demand for seats approaches the level of supply. My main comment would be the of the last evening games where this offer applied I had looked at the East Stand (eldest son hates West upper) and nearly all seats were blocked out, on the night it looked pretty empty- free tickets were "grabbed" but not used. I think a token price should have been put on them ie £5, fans would have valued them more and only brought what they needed.

The last league evening game was Ipswich. The announced crowd was 26,376 - the actual crowd was about 14,000. This was partly due to the issue of tickets to people who had expressed no interest in attending, in Charlton or even in football, especially in the AC (east) stand.

"No interest in Charlton or attending".......I wonder why they targeted this group?

Because they happen to live locally.
Locals were getting two tickets per household for some of these games. Some of those tickets are probably still sitting on doormats.
Really don’t understand this offer, why have they made the offer, that a season ticket holder can buy two tickets and one will be free. My son and myself do not have seasons anymore, we pick and choose. Now this offer may well have appealed, and I could ring up and get two tickets for the price of one.
However, I now have to bother a season ticket holding mate, to put himself out to do me a favour and order tickets, pay for them, and arrange to get them to me. There is no benefit in this offer to the season ticket holder themselves.
That’s bloody ridiculous, and based on recent performances, I will not be choosing this game. Though with ability to just ring up and sort for myself, I likely would have. Paying half the price to watch a poor halfway up the table team, would seem about fair.
If he / she is a mate surely what is in it for them is helping out a friend? Why would there have to be anything more in it than that. Frankly if you asked on here I would bet you would get more than one stranger offering to do it for you. Cause a lot of people are just decent.
Athletico, 100 % correct I have friends who I drink with that have seasons. Also correct, despite the squabbles the long term posters on here are largely a good bunch, and would accommodate me with tickets. Infact NORTHEATHADDICK did that for the Plymouth game ( I made donation to Community Trust).
My point was what was the thinking/incentive by making the offer open to Season ticket holders, when a simple buy one get free would have, in my view a larger take up. I still struggle to see the positive for the ST holder.

As a season ticket holder with family who attend I think it is great as I will be bringing a friend of my boys and his dad to the game. Now frankly, his friend would only cost a fiver on a normal day I think so not much saving, but his Spurs supporting dad doesn't know that! My lad will be happy as he has a friend along and who knows, however u likely it is but maybe the dad and son will like it and come back for more... They are arm chair Spuds after all and relatively new to the UK so no strong allegiance. Win win. I was away for the previous Plymouth and ? Games where there were so many free tickets available.

On the subject of giveaway free tickets...
My Brother, his girlfriend and her two kids have been given free tickets for this game against Fleetwood. Why? probably something to do with the schools idk.
anyway, all of them are spurs fans. My brother even has a tattoo of a spurs cockerel on his leg the muppet. They will go to this game cos of my brothers family connections to Charlton but he wont be going to any other game if he has to pay. Loads of others wont turn up at all as they have no connection to Charlton or even football. Now i know that Charlton wont know any of that but the targeting for these free tickets doesn't seem to be well thought out.
Meanwhile I have supported Charlton a fair while. Previously a season ticket holder and still attend home matches when i can and have gone to a fair few away matches over the years. My Dad previously a season ticket holder, been going to matches since the 60s and has been to a quite a few away matches over the years. Between us, apart from possibly a pint, I don't think we've ever got anything free from this club. now i would of thought some of that would be on a system that Charlton do know.
Like with everything it seems you get no reward for loyalty.
and going back to the thread, if you think this offer is a reward for loyalty i don't see how? Its not the season ticket holder getting the free ticket its more the season ticket holder doing the work of the marketing/publicity team to get people into the ground.
Of course we want to attract new fans but like the fill the valley offers that make season tickets not value for money, there is no reward given back for the loyalty. Can't we do both? yes we got to try and attract new fans but maybe a gesture to the actual fans would be nice. Plus those who used to go to the Valley and entice them back.
I'm just going off on one a bit as i'm pissed off that my brother gets free tickets and he doesn't even offer me one..He might as well work for Charlton. the prick.
I don't have a problem with this - its putting a bit of onus on season ticket holders to actually contact people rather than just printing the tickets off and worrying about who's gonna use them later - same people moaning about the previous give away now moaning about this. We - the season ticket holders - are the club, in my opinion and if we can't be arsed or don't think we should have to - help fill the ground, then why should the owner keep digging his hand in his pocket? Neither of us have to, but maybe its something we can actually do to help the club rather than just critcising and waiting for an up turn - every little helps !!!
And how many of the 9000 season ticket holders will be season ticket holders next season if performances on the pitch dont improve? And for me and I can speak for a couple of others it's not even about the results, I just want to see a bit of battle in the team. We can throw as many free tickets at this as we want. But imo if the performance in the pitch dont improve we will be lucky to have 6000 season ticket holders next season. And let's not forget we are average about a 1000 a game for the away games. Be lucky to average 600 next season.
TBH I think the number will remain around the same. None of the guys I go with would ever consider getting rid of their season tickets even if we were relegated. I think the current pricing is fair £22.50 a game (I think) in the East stand. I'm in the same block as Airman, he can correct me if I got the pricing wrong.
If the promo offers lead to more season ticket sales or even some additional tickets bought for random games throughout the season then I guess it could be deemed a success.
As Doucher touches on I think our job as fans is to support the club by buying Season Tickets / MatchDay tickets. Personally I haven't got the calculator out and figured out if it's cheaper to buy individual matchday tickets and hope for some promo tickets to give me a lower average cost per game.
The season ticket price is what it is, doesn't cover most of the costs of running the club meaning TS has to meet the shortfall out of his own pocket. Well I guess that's what he signed up for.
My view as a fan is simple, buy the season ticket to support the club. If you can afford it stump up for Valley Gold and Membership too.
just had a look on the tickets site and looks like a big crowd today - presuming the tickets sold will be used as they've had to be paid for although i guess there may be a few who will have got one free and not be using it - will be getting there nice and early today to avoid a repeat of that turnstile nonsense against norwich

Be very glad to see the back of the ticket promotions. Brings in such a disinterested crowd. The thing with the phone lights being the prime example.
And roughly how many actually in the ground?
