Seeing as I work up there 5 days a week, going up there on my day off doesn't really interest me. However I've been wanting to do the canal walks with the Mrs and baby from little Venice into Camden lock etc.
Looks lovely and with all the hustle and bustle of the centre we forget the other parts London has to offer.
I strongly recommend the 'London's Hidden Walks' series, comprising three pocketbooks, each of which contains 12 or 13 walks in different areas of London. I've done most of them and, without exception, found every one thoroughly enjoyable.
Each illustrated walk has a map, photographs of buildings and other places of interest en route (helpful for people like me who lack a good sense of direction), details of places to visit like museums, galleries and churches and useful tips on good watering holes and places to grab a bite. The text contains a wealth of fascinating historical information, which is clearly the result of a great deal of research by the author and it's to his credit that this is presented in a concise and entertaining way.
If I might be allowed a bit of shameless self-promotion, I undertake guided walks in London with a wartime theme under the trading name of Blitzwalkers which cover various areas, Blackheath & Greenwich, Chelsea, The City, Southwark and Westminster amongst others. I sometimes work with @SE7toSG3 of this parish and have guided one or two lifers in the past. I'm a member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides, so like to think I know what I'm talking about. For now, I concentrate on private groups rather than doing "walk up" walks, as the market for the latter seems to have evaporated a bit since Covid. Link to my website is below.
I'm gonna walk back from the match to Greenwich Travelodge along the river stopping at all the pubs and ending with a kebab. Football. A good walk by the river. Getting pissed. A kebab. Happy days. Who's up for it?
