We’re there any notable absentees of players you’d expect to be there?
    Dobson.

Was Fraser there, bonding and all that?

Clare 2nd and he was poor.
I wouldn't fault his effort, but I would his ability.
I can see why Robinson let him come to us, as he wasn't going to get in their team & they ended 8th.
    A squad player at best.
I pretty much agree with this and think he currently lacks the ability for a player in a team challenging for promotion. However I do wonder whether he is one that could be improved by some individual coaching particularly in the outside centre back role that he has occupied most of the season.

I can think of two rookie errors off the top of my head that he made that cost us goals that are easily eliminated from his game. Firstly away at Wigan he gave away a pen when all he needed to do was stand up his man and not stick a leg out. And at the Valley against Morecambe he showed Arthur Gnahour away from goal but onto his favoured left foot which also had the effect of forcing the keeper away from his near post to get a view and giving a striker who scored just five goals in the season an easy opportunity to score. His versatility in terms of positions make him a useful squad player at this level (not unlike Steve Brown was for us at a higher level) but perhaps he could improve and offer a bit more.
I agree about those mistakes, but he has regularly asserted that this is not his natural position. Maybe those who voted for him were taking that into account.

You could equally list similar mistakes by Famewo, a player I thought was the absolute business under Bowyer before he got injured.

A very enjoyable evening considering how our season went. Thanks to Ian, Jean and there was one other who organised it, but whose name I did not catch (if you are on here, apologies, but thank you!).

I was genuinely taken aback on how much insight my son and I received over the course of the evening and we stayed to close to the end. I do not plan to break any confidences, but everything from transfer policy/approach and situations we found ourselves in when trying to sign players, through to Adkins approach vs JJ’s, contract renewals and what the black box is serving up not just on potential targets but our own team players’ detailed analysis. Absolutely fascinating stuff and really pleased we did it and grateful for the transparency.

I have an inkling one or two may be sold if very attractive offers come in, but from a player perspective and I do not think he will mind me sharing, Dobbo was adamant that he will stay, work even harder and help us have a real push at the right end of the table. We have a bit of a record on losing our POTYs but he looked at me like I was mad 😂 Issue may be whether any wealthier League One or Championship club puts a big offer in of course, but Dobbo himself is all in and loving it with us as much as we are loving him.

As for players not attending, Stockley could not attend due to a personal family matter (wish him and his family well), Washington and McGil (unwell), Claire (post Op) and Purrington (🤷‍♂️).
    Thanks, interesting post.

My only question is who are the one or two you think may leave if very attractive offers come in and assuming Dobson isn't one of them.

I guess one would be CBT and that would not surprise me.  As good as he is I am still not convinced he is a wing back.  I do think with his pace/power and age though we would be mad to let him go as he could go on to big things if his end product improves a touch.

Not sure we have anyone else who we would get a decent offer for.....   Aaahhh... Kirk - had forgotten all about him!

Good to hear @Pavoren007. I guess that puts to bed my theory of Dobson leaving.

Actuals were not discussed, of course, but I too would not be surprised if Kirk, CBT and perhaps DJ were to move one. Three natural wide men, wingers, not wing backs and certainly lacking defensive qualities. Much depends on whether JJ wants to persist with one attacking one more defensive wing back next season or get in natural wing backs and these now exist, a lot of teams having moved to 3 at at back over the last 3-4 seasons.

Any player who is out of contract at the end of this season and with the club leaving it late to speak to them, would I think already started to look elsewhere. This may back fire on the club.

Only backfires if we want to keep any of them.

None of the players out of contract would be much of a loss (albeit I'd probably like to keep Washington as a squad player).

Second hand gossip from people who claim to be ITK. And a bit of wishful thinking.
I was told Conor asked for more money, the club said no and he’s heard nothing since.

I’d gladly see DJ leave one of the worst players I’ve seen in recent years and he cost us £400k.

lazy, unfit, can’t cross, no end product and won’t beat his man. He’s been a complete waste of time.
But we signed him from Swindon because he was good at all of those.

I wasn’t meaning to question those who voted for him or the players commitment. I actually think he was a very worthy runner up this season. It’s more that I don’t think he is at the level you would want yet for a team to get promoted and he has been our second best / most consistent player.

The errors I highlighted were tactical not technical errors and I was really wondering whether with some could individual positional coaching he could improve significantly in that position. He has some good attributes to play there and is probably more naturally suited to that than centre midfield in my opinion

Is he lazy or does his playing style just make him come across that way? Thought he worked pretty hard at wing back, certainly a lot more than I was expecting.

Kanu looks more a man than Dobson, surely next season he gets a go or is loaned out short term.

Purrington was there and is both keen to stay and confident that something will come forward in terms of new contract. Genuinely nice guy and really loves being at Charlton, spoke very openly and he seemed pretty sensible and switched on with plans post-football as well as the current costs/bills/mortgages a L1 player has to confront.

As an aside, Forster-Caskey seemed pretty solemn and pissed off with contract situation. He has heard absolutely nothing from the club and got the feeling that he wants to stay/be recognised but this hasnt been forthcoming thus far

Fraser was absolutely battered but very funny. Tbf they all came across as pretty nice lads and very likeable, which was almost disappointing as I was prepared to hate them after this crap season!!
Fraser is from Dundee - there’s not a lot else to do there
