Yeah our season has imploded. Injuries have caught up ….. we will be sellers at the deadline when one month ago it looked like we were locked into the wildcard race
A very sad day for Dodgers fans like myself and indeed all Baseball fans with the death of the legendary broadcaster Vin Scully at age 94. He covered many sports but was best known for his remarkable 67 years broadcasting the Dodgers going back to when the team was still based in Brooklyn. RIP Vinny.
Astros have acquired the Red Sox’s catcher Vazquez and 1B Mancini from the Orioles at the trade deadline. Two areas of weakness in the batting line up addressed. 👍
I gave up on the Giants’ season a long time ago. Everything was going fine until the wheels fell off and then they traded out Casali and Ruf on deadline day! Go figure!
Five of the six divisions now wrapped up with the Dodgers, Cardinals, Astros, Yankees and Guardians.
NL East could come down to the wire with only one win separating the Mets from the Braves. Both have qualified for the post season but would really like to avoid a wildcard series.
A three game series between the two was set to begin in Atlanta tomorrow but with Hurricane Ian looming, there were all sorts of possible work arounds being discussed.
It seems as though there is no longer any danger to the Atlanta region and the series should go ahead as planned.
With six games left for each, they follow up this three game series with the Braves scheduled to travel to Miami for three games and the Mets hosting the Nationals for three games.
Whoever does not win the NL East will take the #4 seed. Otherwise, with a new 12 team playoff format, the wildcard race in each League looks like this:
Braves have won the first two games of the three game series over the Mets and now have a one game lead for the NL East. If the Nets win today, it’s neck and neck with 159 games played.
In the AL, the divisional winners and seeds have been determined: #1 Astros, #2 Yankees, #3 Guardians.
All three AL playoff teams have been decided too: Blue Jays, Rays and Mariners - just a few games left to play to figure out who gets #4, #5 and #6.
In the NL, it continues to be a nail biting race between the Padres, the Phillies and the Brewers for the wildcards… #5 Padres +2.0, #6 Phillies -, #7 Brewers -1.0. #4 seed will be occupied by the Mets or the Braves.
The NL division winners and seeds are set as follows: #1 Dodgers, #2 Braves or Mets, #3 Cardinals.
Anyone but the Yankees. Would love the Guardians to do it.
I will always agree with the sentiment “Anyone but the Yankees”. I also agree with rooting for the Guardians, purely because it would be nice for them to win it all in their first season without having a racist nickname. 😎
The Braves swept the Mets in their three game series and are now one win away from sealing the division. Mets path now looks very difficult.
Last one of the 12 playoff places is still to be decided between the Phillies and the Brewers. The Phillies hold a two win lead with a three game series in Houston to come. The Brewers host the Diamondbacks for their own three game series.

Only the second time the Yankees have been “no-hit” since 1958. Both times against the Astros (June 2003 and June 2022).

He limped round the bases last night in cincinatti

#7 Brewers -0.5

#6 Mariners -

#7 Orioles -4.5
The wildcard games become three game wildcard series with #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5, much like the NFL wildcard round up until a couple of years ago.
One key difference is that the winner of #4 vs #5 will play the #1 seed in the divisional series while #3 or #6 will play #2, regardless of result.
