Was asked by his former Birmingham City teammate Wayne Mumford to come to the Valley and meet Thomas who told him about the name.
AC was a bit overwhelmed and at first TS thought he didn't want it but was just that Curbs thought it was "usually something you get when you're gone".
Was asked by Wayne and Scott. Does a lot of work for IMG who do all the EPL games for overseas markets and which make up 33% of income to clubs. Fits his CTV around that. He was very much on top of the financial side of EPL broadcasting rights.
All 20 clubs get an equal share of overseas but UK fees (66% of total) us split 50/25/25 with all getting the same 50% then 25% based on number of times on TV £3m+ per match and the other 25% on league position.
Says it favours the already rich and successful clubs who will go on winning and become more of a closed shop.
AC said in our prem days the Man U chair complained about them always playing at 12.45 to which Richard Murray said "we'll play 12.45 every week" as that meant more TV money for us.
Said Dowie and Pardew spent £30m between them while he'd been fighting to get £2m to spend on a midfielder. Murray was reluctant to let him spend that fearing that players wouldn't sign as he only had a year left. Conversation went on for some hours on the Friday evening and ended with Curbs going. Next day was announced at Blackburn game. Curbs went into a lot more detail which I can't do justice but maybe others remember more.
Said we got nearly all the players we wanted as didn't aim to high.
One we did miss was Tim Cahilll.
Was close and he wanted to stay in London but went to Everton.
"Can't tell you why we didn't get him" he said which I heard as "I know but can't reveal the reason"
The reason IIRC was something to do with Cahill's brother being on the run from villains/police and he/they had to get out of London. My recollection, Curbs didn't say this.

Is this the brother that got 6 years jail? And this prick dedicated a goal to him?
Costa's first game was against Chelsea. Costa used an interpreter. Curbs was trying to explain to Costa, how to stop Hasselbaink. Costa just winked at Curbs and said don't worry boss, then had him in his pocket all game. We won 0-1.
Costa played ten minutes of that game but it was a brilliant day !

Sounds like a great night, would have loved to have heard his views on who’s management and footballing style he prefers between Klopp and Pep, and where he would rank them against the greats he managed against
I take it you have passed my email, looking forward to the night.
Only because its free
We do pass a glass around
Bring it over and I'll give you a fiver. Get Sir John Humphrey along and I'll throw in a brown one. This glass suggests strippers are on the agenda. Is that the half-time break entertainment?

Did it hurt? "Not half"

"Just win some f****** games"
(See, @JamesSeed 😉)
"Pick your best team and stick to it. Consistency is important.
Different game now. I see league one sides playing it out from the back, "I was so glad when I saw that Man City keeper get caught out"
"I was lucky as had players who could change. Herman Heiridisson, Fish could move to full back etc but the game is still about players"
Said we played a version of 433 that is fashionable now with Ambrose, Bent, Rohmerdhal up front.
Murphy's attitude in the dressing room tolerated for a while but not missed it seemed to me when he left.
Jensen was going to Ipswich, AC found out which hotel in Ipswich he was meeting the ITFC boss in and got there before him.
Jensen wouldn't do any defending but the other players realised that he could do things they couldn't. Played two "dogs" behind him.
Chelsea paid Judas 4x we were.
AC noted the fan was wear a Band t -shirt and said what a good group they were.
And this prick dedicated a goal to him?
Did he repeat his scandalous claim that he took Charlton to its highest ever League position?
There is so much horse shit spoken about "squads" these days, but football is all about having a settled XI as far as possible.
In our glory days under Bowyer we finally had that settled team in place and it showed in our results.
