352 with Innis, Pearce and Faemwo - 3 slow centre backs - not good. Not a fan of 352 / 532. Unless you have the players for it, I can't see Charlton getting anywhere with this formation. I don't understand keeping on playing it, unless to demonstrate / evidence to the Sandgaards, who is not suited to it.
I dunno, we could get relegated next seasonif we try hard enough
We are fart arseing about trying to keep the fu*cking score down and still giving everything away in midfield, WE ARE LOOSING LADS, get some bloody action going and press higher, show some guts ffs, if for nothing else, for the long suffering SOLD OUT away end, god this is frustration in it's greatest form...
62' Close! Chaplin cuts through the Charlton defence with a reverse pass that is collected by Woolfenden. The defender drives inside but his low effort is blocked near the line.
3-0 | #itfc
Washington panicked and took it too early, must score.
Gilbey and Morgan don’t work, we need Morgan and JFC deep lying with 1 AM, if that’s Fraser then fine but I ain’t seen it yet. We cannot afford 2 players wandering about with their thumbs up their arse when we don’t have the ball
make some changes JJ ffs, this is dire
does anyone actually know what formation we are playing? Is it the traditional 3 at the back with 7 doing wtf they fancy?
We dominates them at the Valley and was probably one of our best performances of the season.
They’ve dominated us here and is most likely one of their best performances of their season.
Meanwhile both teams are finishing mid table. Tells you everything you need to know - we are not as different as you think.
- apparently we are easy to beat due to the formation, yet this team picks up 19 points from last nine games. Last time we had a bad run of results, Jacko’s tactics got found out but then it mysteriously started working again… when better players came in.
- the deficiencies of our midfielders was horribly exposed in the opening 15 minutes. Those deficiencies are leaving us open to semi-regular bad performances and we are being served one today.
Don’t see how this changes next year, unless we change tactically.
When we are in possession and pushing forwards our two advanced midfielders always seem to peel left and right, with Dobson tending to sit back centrally. This means when we get turned over there’s often massive spaces in the middle of the pitch for the opposition to exploit.
It happens time and time again, and it’s why teams like Hartlepool and even Gateshead were able to get players forward in good attacking positions.
It gets better next year once Gilbey and Morgan are out of the team. They are woeful. Can’t expect Dobson to run around chasing Celina, Chaplin and Bakinson all by himself.
That’s why midfield is the hardest position to play. You have to know when to get forward and when to hold your position, where the man is and where the pass is going. Unfortunately these two don’t have it.
I feel like you’ve completely missed my point here. It’s nothing to do with the ‘technical’ quality of Gilbey and Morgan. I’m talking about how tactically we are so set up to try and get the ball out wide and get crosses into Stockley that there is often massive open spaces in the middle of the park which are very easy to exploit on the turnover.
How does having better technical players rectify that? When often we end up in possession in to corner of the pitch with our WB, Washington and one of the midfielders.
Every tactic you implement is going to leave holes if everyone is doing their own thing with no regard for the team. For me, it always comes back to football intelligence. They aren’t working together. If in this example, one is going wide, the others have to cover.
And have you seen better when Fraser, Lee or JFC played in those advanced positions? Ive not. Funny enough we had the same issue when Bowyer was in charge as well. The issue has persisted with whoever we played in the middle of the park, because we play an awful brand of one dimensional football, and have done for a long time.
Yeah it will work on some days. But over a difficult 46 game season, it’s never going to be enough to get you promoted.
Haven’t seen enough of a fit JFC or Fraser to say with regards to those two.
I will happily put Lee into the same bucket as Morgan and Gilbey. Loves to get forward, doesn’t do enough defensively to play in midfield. None of the three are good enough to start next season.
The one thing you can say is this performance might serve as a useful reality check and reminder of the issues in this team right before the summer window. No home win vs the Champions to mask a poor season here.
The big quest mark for me is Jackson. I desperately want him to do well and overall results have not been bad under him but it’s so up and down and we still see the same flaws in our team and our shape (very vulnerable on the turnover, space in that channel between wing back and centre back, no discernible pattern to our attacks) that we were seeing once that new manager bounce subsided. You can plead that you have limitations in your players all you like, but to make almost zero progress in terms of coaching them to execute your system properly in 7 months working with them is not a good reflection on a manager. Either you’re showing you can’t coach them or you don’t know what to coach them to fix the problems.
Keeping your fingers crossed that you’re still in a game with 30 minutes to go and then chucking on Chuks in the hope he’ll do something special is not a game plan.
Not watching and just checked score. From the comments I think this is probably the reality of where we are as a football club. Third tier and way off the pace in every respect. Players are poor but at some point the manager has to be questioned. I’d get shot of the lot.

Wycombe or Milton Keynes can still go up

Post update
Kane Vincent-Young (Ipswich Town) wins a free kick on the right wing.
Post update
Foul by Albie Morgan (Charlton Athletic).
We are genuinely that bad.
Jackson surely can't sleep easily tonight.
These lads have given up
Milton Keynes will take 2nd place from Rotherham | Fleetwood will go down, Gillingham will stay up
Finished 5th bottom last season and then SPENT money to turn it all around. Got rid of all the dead wood & rebuilt the whole squad.
That is what it takes.
