Such a fantastic performance CV! You can justifiably feel very proud. My heart goes out to all of you. Heroes one and all.2

Cape Verde.. what a story!! Ain’t football amazing! But I can’t help thinking, imagine if that was us scraping a win against them in Extra Time.. the media and social media meltdown would be a sight to behold. Regardless, Cape Verde are a better footballing side than Scotland and that is just an objective reality 🌝4

Gutted for Cabo Verde. Thought they were brilliant. Really had Argentina hanging on at the end. They deserve huge credit not only for pushing one of the big 6 (left) all the way, but for how they did it - they looked fitter than the Argies and there was no panicked clearances or hopeful punts, they played smart football under pressure all the way to the end. There was a particular moment in extra time when the goalie rushed out to sweep up a through and rather than just hacking it into the stands he took it round the on rushing forward, steadied himself, and played a lovely ball into midfield to a man in space and got an attack started.I didn’t think they had much of a chance but ended up hugely impressed. Think they would’ve beaten most teams left in the competition if they’d played like that against them. Would’ve been one of the all time World Cup moments if they’d pulled it off.4

I’d say that’s the most boring game I’ve watched so far. Ghana were awful and Colombia weren’t much better.0

We should’ve done it in 1990. And people said it at the time, so it wouldn’t have been that bold or controversial.fenaddick said:Substituting your GK for the shoot out is BOLD
It probably wouldn’t have made much difference because the German pens were all very good, but Shilton was 40, wasn’t mobile enough and was effectively a spectator. Dave Beasant, who had a better penalty save record, or even Chris Woods may at least have got close to a couple.0 -
Guilty as charged.CAFCTrev said:All those people who went to bed with Argentina 1 nil up. Could be a very interesting result for them to wake up to!I was so tired and I had no desire to stay up late to listen to what seemed an inevitable Messi wankfest.
Anyway, Argentina won, so I would’ve still gone to bed disappointed!0 -
Super impressed with Cape Verde in this competition. Their manager has done an amazing job, and he's a Cape Verde stalwart, rather than a big name import.4

I went to bed at 1-0, trying to make sure I'm not completely wrecked for England's early Monday kick off. Far too tired even for my own messy wankfest.
(got in there before Mehmet)1 -
Those bastards from Cape Verde let everybody down.2

France would absolutely stuff the Argies. And that will be good riddance to them0

That would be the final then..DamoNorthStand said:France would absolutely stuff the Argies. And that will be good riddance to them1 -
Might not be good enough at the back but can see Colombia causing Argentina issues0
-
Same, Colombia have looked much better than Argentina, in my opinion.fenaddick said:Might not be good enough at the back but can see Colombia causing Argentina issues
France have looked head and shoulders above everyone else, though I think Spain could give them a good game, but I think people expect Argentina to reach the final in the other half as everyone else (us, Brazil etc) have looked a bit dodgy too, but they've not been great and played dross like Algeria and Jordan in the group.0 -
Is it just me that thought Messi blatantly dived for one of those free kicks on the edge of CVs area? Obviously wasn't mentioned by the commentators as there is a collective blind spot when it comes to the messiah's imperfections2

This reporter has tested the mexico altitude effect by running 4.5 miles, or 7km, half the distance that Declan Rice ran against DR Congo

I reckon we would need 10 outfield subs, changed at half time to compensate for the disadvantage, which is the size of the handicap.
In their match handicap market Willhill are offering Mexico -3, -2 and -1 at 66/1, 20/1, and 6/1 respectively. Adding that in combination with some draws in other games should help pay this month's bills.0 -
I reckon this goes pens0

I’m hoping we get a few weather stoppages to give the lads a good rest a couple of hours in the dressing room would help them.0

Could be fun in the pubs that have got a late licence if the match is delayed and they have to turf everyone out just as it goes to extra time1

Just noticed Jared Gilett is listed as English on the referees list, but I thought he was Australian?
Unless the nation attached to the refs the nation in which they work maybe?
Dunno. Thought that was odd.0 -
I assume it’s because his certification is with the FA not the Aus equivalentlordromford said:Just noticed Jared Gilett is listed as English on the referees list, but I thought he was Australian?

Come on, Morocco. Nothing against Canada but after Senegal and Cape Verde not making it from promising positions, I want the last Africans standing to progress.1
-
Impressed by this start from Canada. They’ll need a goal out of it though.0

Nah. Want as many good teams out as possible in case we progressAddicksAddict said:Come on, Morocco. Nothing against Canada but after Senegal and Cape Verde not making it from promising positions, I want the last Africans standing to progress.
