A successful dribble is when you dribble past a defender and retain possession. You're right that the context is really important for this stat. A few weeks ago Doku dribbled past Alexander-Arnold loads but wasn't able to do anything with the ball. In the case of TC he creates a lot of big chances , takes a lot of touches in the opposition box and has a high amount of successful crosses.

Well the original Dean Martin is marimba, when it was co-opted by football fans it was samba because the player was from South America. Certainly seems to be samba being sung by our fans too
NJ on TC post match: "I've worked in the Premier League, and he's as good as I've seen."
Bit hyperbolical, perhaps, but he's deserving of a bit of hype. I would say he's, at least, starting to look better than Rak-Sakhi was when he was with us because he's having those decisive moments but he's also always running and working and making sure he's involved across the whole 90 minutes (unless he's subbed off like tonight).
Still quite a way behind Rak-Sakhi for me, didn’t he get something like 15 league goals in a terrible team?
Across the whole season yes, but based on his form over the last month or two, I don't think it's such clear distinction.
Some proper Charlton tinted glasses on there. JRS was streaks ahead.
I’d say the gap has closed with TCs progression this season. He’s the harder working player, but overall JRS was better.
However it does work both ways, I remember disagreeing with others on here who said they weren’t bothered if JRS was recalled by Palace in January. He scored 6 of his 15 goals for us in March and April. Like TC, he improved as the season went on.

I heard the Pompey fans singing it the other day, it's like all these chants which quickly get adopted by club after club.
Some people just didn't like CBT, at least TC is one of our own...
CBT had better stats but I would have TC over him all day. Not because he is one of our own but because his work rate is incomparable with CBT who ignored all defensive duties. That has also stopped CBT progressing at Derby imo.

A bit hyperbolic? Nathan is basically saying he never saw a better Premier League player when he managed in The Premier League. I'd love Nathan a lot more if he didn't talk such shite.

The premier league is so much more about physicality these days. I think there’s doubts whether Rak-Sakyi has the physical attributes to succeed in the top flight, even though he’s excellent technically. TC now potentially has the physical attributes and is improving technically. I still think Rak-Sakyi is the better player but in the context of playing premier league football I think it’s closer than most will think

I love TC but I think there’s massive recency bias sneaking in here. Rak Sakyi at his best was much more unplayable than TC, and Rak saki was only 18 and tbh often felt like he wasn’t really trying / in 5th gear. I think we’re seeing TC really giving his all having worked on his game, worked on his body etc. hate to be defending the palace kid Vs our own just not convinced sadly that TC will make it in the prem
hope he makes it in the champ with us in the shorter term!

To be honest I think there’s a massive gap between them, and I love watching TC.
I haven’t seen JRS play since he left us so don’t know to what extent he’s improved. I’m purely comparing how JRS was with us and how TC is now. I can’t say I see anything missing from TC’s game now that JRS provided significantly more. TC does need to keep up the end product consistently now, but the three goals he scored this week were exactly the kinds of things that made JRS so popular here. Add in that he’s probably stronger physically and works harder off the ball (not sure if JRS would’ve handled NJ’s high intensity pressing in the same way) and TC is getting up to that kind of level of player for us.

not sure he meant that - I've listened and my interpretation is that he's saying TC is probably the best young academy player to come through at any club he's been at (or at least up there with anything he's seen / coached)
JRS and Canpbell are different players. Campbell is better at beating people, JRS was/is a better finisher. If Campbell can add finishing to his game, he will be a better player IMO. The recent signs are promising but it is too early to say for sure. What is promising is that last season Campbell had to work on his strength and he has done, he seems to be a player who can get better. At the end of last season, it was not a certainty we would retain him with fans. He has transformed into our best prospect and that is in a squad with Leaburn and Anderson and quite a few others.
I think this is the week TC finally came of age, in a footballing sense.
Two great strikes and a brilliant performance against Huddersfield and you would naturally expect a young lad to be feeling that a bit come Tuesday. And it's probably fair to say he didn't have his greatest game but, and it's a huge BUT, he still had the ability and strength to not just trick his way past his man but to physically push past him and then unleash a great strike into the bottom corner. Sure, the keeper mightve done better, but he didn't have the chance to set himself properly because of TCs sudden burst and quick shot.
You can bet your life that when the rest of the division saw that goal they would've all had one thought in their minds, "why haven't we got anyone who can do that?"

Rak Sakyi was 20 the same age as TC is now when he had his loan at CAFC.
The major difference is Campbell has to play with more discipline under our manic Nathan and it obviously took time to not only get stronger but to transition from being a youth player to men's footballer and being more than just a right winger.
JRS also took time but he had Carte blanche to attack in a mediocre team with less defensive responsibility or having a partnership as TC has with Edwards on the left or Ramsey when Tyreece switches to the right.
I always felt CBT should've switched sides more as he had two good feet even though he was very hot and cold.
JRS may end up being a good Championship player and as the Premiership defenders are so superior to the majority of League 1 defenders, TC may well end up also being at a high level in a Championship team.
After his brilliant game against Huddersfield and a very good game against Mansfield (a couple of mistakes) his ceiling is currently on the rise.
The first time I saw him in pre-season, I hardly recognised him, he had bulked up so much...
Now, maybe Jones and other coaches told him in advance that he was going to be tried as a striker, and suggested he worked on his strength, but...
It being suggested he do it, and him spending his own time off doing it, are very different things indeed!
Full credit to the man. He obviously worked incredibly hard to get to the position he has. Without taking anything away from his pace etc. He deserves all the praise he is receiving.
Jones really bigging him up here. Over the top probably, but the potential is there if he starts scoring and assisting regularly. I think it’s more that he’s trying too boost and maintain TCs confidence, as that’s clearly very important for TC, as is getting fitter, stronger and improving other areas of his game.

It is "... marimba rhythms..." btw
And Michael Bublé FFS?
Dean Martin if you please
