Well deserved, Shrewsbury threatened at times but were more interested in protecting and hitting us on the break - How that has got them to the heights of 8th (before the game) I'll never know.
Glad Rak-Sakyi got the winner, but got he was shit and that will be reflected in the marks from me.
I’m surprised. Perhaps I’m seeing this wrong, but apart from the two misses (which you get from a young inexperienced player) he was very good on the ball again, created chances for others, got into good positions and took his third chance well, especially having missed two.
Keep it up Rak! Great assist from the byline by Payne on his right foot. Another good cameo from him.
Unusually I got prediction right with Campbell for CBT, and I thought he looked very good indeed.
I thought he was really wasteful again, constantly losing the ball - He needed that goal for his confidence, but thought he should have been the one subbed instead of Campbell, so glad I got that wrong.
He wasn’t constantly losing the ball was he? Well it didn’t feel like he was anyway. They’re raving about him post match on CTV.
I’ll give him a solid 7 including an extra point for hitting the winner in our first away win.
Agreed. It's can also be easy to overlook how much of a handful JRS is for opponents. They can't handle his unpredictability and trickery on the ball and often double up on him, which creates holes in defences.
He's scored 3 goals so far ..... which puts him on course for around 10 goals this season. That's not so bad for a raw 19 year old kid in his 1st regular season.
Proper away day result today. Get the goal, then 15 minutes of Jason Pearce style defending down the other end to see it out.
I said before today that I wouldn't start getting too positive about our prospects until we could start winning away. Today was a big step forward, and a monkey off our back.
Felt good about that. Fully deserved win, and an excellent debut from another academy product. I’m increasingly confident that Ben Garner is a very good hire. Thought that was O’Connell’s best game for us and he and Inniss look increasingly solid together. The spine of the team looks solid all round. I’m still not a Kirk fan but obviously BG thinks he does a job so I’m deferring to him. A goal would for sure do him good.
Happy curry time in Eltham and down to the Valley Tuesday. What could possibly go wrong?
lovely win, thought campbell did well couple of lovely efforts, stockley can piss off shouting his ear off for giving him a pass to run onto, does that far too often, and aneke did more in 10 minutes than he did the whole game
Stockley was excellent today... His hold up play to bring others in to the game further up the pitch was outstanding, and got us off the hook defensively about two or three times when we pissed about in our box first half
excellent is way ott
Certainly doesn't deserve the dig after the shift he put in.
The change in formation has clearly transformed our season.
But so has something else. Lady luck is shining on us for a change. Against Exeter when it was 2-1, they hit the underside of the crossbar and the ball came out. Today, and I don't think anyone has mentioned it, Shrewsbury missed an absolute sitter when the ball came across the goal and their forward somehow failed to touch it in. At this level, that's the bit if luck you need.
Not that I'm saying we didn't deserve to win. Inniss and O'Connell superb in the heart of the defence; Fraser and Dobson excellent in midfield again; and having a fit Egbo and Sessegnon makes so much difference as well.
Glad J R-S scored otherwise we would be cursing his 2 misses. The lad is clearly a huge talent but he didn't have a good game today and he really needs to work out when to shoot or pass instead of trying to beat a 4th defender. I'm sure his time here will make him a much better player. Good of us to help out our feathered friends down the road.
Well, what a turn around there has been in the space of 10 days from a very ordinary looking average league one mid table side to one that can only see one way and that is up the league. Something has changed within the club, and there seems a new found belief in our own ability to turn the season around, the next couple of games are going to prove pivotal, another six points and we will have opposition not wanting to play us as we could cement a top six place...don't let us and yourselves down now lads..👍

Garner dropped the system dictated to him by those gurus of football 'The Sandgaards' if Adkins had done the same, he may have lasted longer in the job.

4-3-3 is very much Garner’s normal system. That’s not something Sandgaard has forced on him
I don’t think it was workmanlike at all. There was a huge amount of skill shown. Intricate moves and great running off the ball. But it was the tactical way we went about the win that was impressive. We didn’t pump it long, we toyed with them at times. Our centre backs taking their time to pick a pass, players moving to make angles. When you consider the rubbish we’ve watched the last few years, this was a professional modern-day away performance and that’s down to Garner. You could see he was hacked off about the final pieces of the recruitment puzzle not being bought. But he said he’d work even harder at the training ground with what he’s got. And it’s paying off. Still early days…but I suspect Garner is the real deal.
Hopefully he’ll stick around long enough to at least get us out of this dire league.
This week could be a really pivotal turning point. Two wins and HMS….etc
A great win and now three Games unbeaten. if we had a serious striker we would have won at least by 3 Goals today, and by 6 Goals against Exeter and Portsmouth. I think considering the lack of proper financial support from our Rock n Roll ego owner Garner our superb young manager deserves a medal for sticking at to his guns and getting us to finally play some good football 👍👍👍

Jingle all the way,
Oh, what fun it is to read,
About Charlton on the match thread when they win away.
Think that might need a bit of work.

Or are we still looking to avoid relegation?
