We may not agree with how they live in Qatar but then it is their country and they are entitled to make their own laws and rules. That said if we want to encourage change then giving Qatar the opportunity to host such a huge event like the World Cup has helped to shine a light into dark corners and gives the wider global community the platform and opportunity to encourage change and better practices. We cannot in all honesty be that self-righteous that we preach to others when many of the goings on in our communities & society is clearly not very good. Hopefully will be an exciting tournament.
To be fair if we really want to make Qatar stop and think about how it treats people, we need to think further than this World Cup - This is a one off Tournament which'll help paint Qatar in a good light, but will also be remembered for the deaths of so many workers that built it, and thats something that should never be forgotten.

While I am of course not happy with the way Qatar (and other Islamic nations) treat people that don't fit in with their narrow viewpoint - a viewpoint driven by their (supposed) belief in magic sky fairies and how they want you to lead your life - like some others, my main objection is a footballing one. Aside from having more tradition in camel racing than football, they campaigned (and won) on hosting a world cup in the summer, "beating" countries far more suitable and who would have fulfilled the brief. As soon as they suggested moving it, their bid should have been declared nul and void.

Japan and South Korea weren't footballing countries and had a great tournament. South Korea can probably be considered a footballing country these days. If the world cup was only to be played at footballing countries it will only be played in Europe and South America. It was great to have it in South Africa.
