Really lovely man departs, burger boy remains.
How is he still in the building? BB that is.
  • Not sure if he would be subject to any kind of NDA but it would be great to get him to one of the supporters club nights in the future. I bet he has some incredible stories about goings on behind the scenes in the past few years.

Saw him at New Eltham Station Thursday night. He got the 5.10 to London Bridge. Got the jubilee line with him as far as Bond Street...

I see a lot of comments on here that say he was involved with targeting/recruitment of talented players in recent years. That's not my understanding, and I'm sure I heard on one of those interviews CAST or the like he was restricted in recent years to negotiating players wages /terms. So a lot of the comments on here are irrelevant based on a misunderstanding of his more recent role.
In recent years we can only judge him on whether he got the players (= agents) he was directed to negotiate with for as little money as possible. And we don't have the info for that other than the annual financial reports. And TS's praise "I thought I was a good negotiator  -then I saw SG working" or words to that effect.
I heard him at Bromley Addicks and on subsequent CAST broadcast. He stuck me as a talented person and good communicator who worked above and beyond especially during the Bowyer era, when he was doing the scouting (2-3 evenings a week) on top of his day job.To very good effect.
Best wishes for the future SG.

    Oh Steve... Why!!

“I’ll never forget the efforts of the SMT team who I worked with closely during covid, they dealt with great difficulties on behalf of the staff and the club. Chris Parkes, Emma Parker, Tony Keohane, Tom Rubashow, Katie Cowling and Ravi Patel. They did so much for the club behind the scenes."

I really liked him and feel it is a big loss. He had good connections across the big clubs which assisted us in obtaining excellent quality loans. He was also a lovely guy. I wish him well.

think it’s pretty clear Andy Scott is the replacement just with a different title

If anyone believes that SG was for the last few years only negotiating player deals when the club was getting shot of staff and cutting costs all over the place needs to give their head a wobble. What do we suppose he was doing for the bulk of the year ?

Brilliant that Lee has come out and said that. SG probably too modest to blow his own trumpet.
I'm not too proud to admit that I had even started to associate SG with some of the duds of recent times

Steve’s a really nice guy who has been working under extremely difficult conditions, how he has managed to stick it out for 6 years, when owners, players and managers, have come and gone I don’t know.

Thanks for caring about us Steve, and all the best for the future.
Although to be fair, players coming and going is probably pretty high up on his job description…

Brilliant that Lee has spoken out about Steve Gallen's contribution to the club. Finally indicates that he was not responsible for most of the dross we signed.
  • Well done Lee Bowyer. Changed my opinion I’ll admit.
  • Does make you wonder if Roland hadn’t been such a weirdo, he might have been a brilliant owner.

Bowyer's remarks also showed that in the end RD's ownership worked as he left the manager to manage which he did very successfully.

On a positive note, the thing that Roland did that lead to (relative) success was to just let people do their jobs and not get involved.... which sounds like the plan of the actual consortium members this time too.

As long as the SMT are competent (and honestly they have respectable records mostly) then hopefully we get back to football people making football decisions instead of being an owners experiment/plaything.
  • Port Vale away last season, my mates and I got back to Stoke station - we were pretty pissed, and also annoyed with the abject Charlton performance that day - Gallen and Martin Sandgaard were stood on the platform - Sandgaard looked like he was about to shit himself when I sauntered over to have a chat, he didn’t say a word - Gallen on the other hand was great, chatted, agreed that the performance was terrible, indicated that he thought Garner was running out of time etc etc

    Top bloke

RD's regime finally worked when he lost interest in the club...

However bad he was as an owner, I'm sure that if he hadn't sold to ESI in 2019, we would have stayed up that season.

Criticims of Gallen have never sat well with me as we haven't got all the information. What Bowyer has said definitely counters the negative comments some have put forward.
