Oh wait, I forgot, Dobson gave away a penalty, he's crap now, Pratley is much better in my curdled rose-tinted idiot memory, we need someone to push their players over and shout a bit and kick it out of play. Have it
Dobson is possibly the best of a bad batch. Pratley has the character most of our players lack and is playing for Orient who are top of L2 - we've just lost 3-1 to Stockport.
Orient and Stockport are certainly better than us at present.
Pratley may have his limitations but ffs we have some right donkeys in our team at present.
My only hope from last night is that Hayes' gambles (back 3, Dobson for Chuks, etc) was his 'not-important-match' chance to try something else, so Saturday will ideally be more orthodox.
I think a lot of people on here confuse average third division players of limited ability with players that 'dont give a shit'.
There are a couple of players whose demeanour might suggest a lack of commitment or effort, but by no means all of them, and certainly not, for example, Dobson, who if anything tried too hard when coming on and seemed intent on single-handedly excersing a seek and destroy mission of anything in a blue shirt.
Some of the self-pitying/self-identifying victimhood comments on here are cringeworthy: grown men behaving like spoilt children because their team has played poorly and lost.
If you think the players are 'c**ts', a 'shower of shit' and you 'hate them all' to the extent that you're not going to use your season ticket again until the owner's gone, then don't use it and see what happens.
I bet any number of you have sung 'Charlton 'til I die' in the past whilst also possessing a litany of caveats and terms and conditions that determine your support.
And spare me talk of 'we deserve better'. Why? Did the club sign a contract guaranteeing you unlimited success on the pitch with responsible and efficient ownership off it?
When you buy a ticket for a game, your only guarantee is that you'll witness a game of football be it good, bad or indifferent.
We're a third division club with third division players and an owner whose hapless naivety has proven to be detrimental at almost every level. The only influence we can exert on the team is our support, so try and support the players, most of whom are trying their best with the talent afforded them.
If only those average third division players showed enough to at least hold their own against some average fourth division players. Who knows what mountains we could scale.
Thankfully I was out with a friend for a curry last night, but saw the last half hour. It wasn't good watching! The second goal was very poor. Clare just let his man walk into space and McGillivray should have done better. I think I should have had a couple more beers rather than hurrying back!
Absolutely. JF-C wasn’t busting a gut to close the space either.
Clare was shite, as usual. Clear penalty that wasn’t given first half when needlessly barging over their man; pointless idiotic scuffing of penalty spot. It’s an embarrassment. How he continues to make the line up, let alone get to wear the armband last night, is totally beyond comprehension.
Clare was the best of a bad bunch on Friday night against Cheltenham as the attacking RB. Last night was a disaster waiting to happen with Clare at RCB, with the inexperienced Chin at RWB, Lavelle at CB, Mitchell at LCB where he has no Left foot and Campbell at LWB where he struggled. How didn't Deji get a game ?

Deji is cup tied
Looking at Transfermarkt, Deji wasn't cup tied as he never played in the Cup on loan. Ness was cup tied though

For a solid run of games before injuries ruined us, Dobson and Fraser in CM was probably the best thing about our side. They're not the problem
Dobson is so wildly overrated by our fanbase. He only looks good because of the dross he's surrounded by.
He has one bad cameo and you slag him off. Obviously he's not in the class of players like Cullen but 100% player who should've started last night as we were lambs to the slaughter with that line up.
Dobson has been an absolute standout in the Pratley role, our best player for over a season, and a massive improvement on Pratley. Pratley is the last, absolute last fucking thing we need
Yes, Pratley has a better goalscoring record than Dobbo but Pratley is slower , fouls more, poorer passing, worse at tackling, when he falls over couldn't get up.

Yes, forgot about the booking incident. Very embarrassing. What was he thinking - total plonker for doing that. Definitely not captain material, and his performances have nosedived drastically this season.
Hate coming in these threads to see the players get abused. I don't think any of them don't try. This season in particular I think they've all been engaged and locked in for the most part. They came back from 2-0 and 4-2 v Ipswich ffs.
This is a mid-table league one side, I don't think they'll go down as long as you pick a system that plays to their attributes. Campbell at right wing back makes no sense. You can't just expect a young winger to be able to play that role. Not starting JES considering he had them on toast at The Valley made no sense to me either. Also no Dobson from the start is absolutely bizarre.
7 points off relegation sounds bad, but we are also 7 points off the playoffs.
Oh wait, I forgot, Dobson gave away a penalty, he's crap now, Pratley is much better in my curdled rose-tinted idiot memory, we need someone to push their players over and shout a bit and kick it out of play. Have it
But you also think Morgan is a good player so probably best to wind it in a bit.

You do know Leuth was a goalkeeper and not a baller don’t you. I cut him some slack 😉.

He's a talented player who sometimes does good things
The senior pros have a lot to answer for after this performance. The youngsters in the side need guidance and encouragement from the more experienced players. They got given niether.
We've lacked leaders for a long while. Pratley was massively underrated in that regard, one of the best leaders we'd had out on the pitch the last 10+ years. That aspect has never been replaced. He's still marshalling and doing well at the top of league two!
Age and number of games played doesn't make you a leader. We don't have any in the squad IMHO.
I was at the Orient V Bradford game on Saturday and you are spot on about Pratley. He is captain and leader for the Os. He sits in the middle of the pitch barking orders and encouraging the team, something we sadly lack. By the way, I am not saying we should get Pratley back, just that we are missing someone like him.
If we go down, I'd get Pratley back. Experienced, good physique for the battle and super-fit. He might make a decent manager one day too.
We're all losing our fucking minds, I get it
You don't think a bit of Pratley attitude is missing from this squad of players?
Is it safe to say, Orient are currently benefitting from Pratley's regular presence in their line-up?
At this rate, Charlton will be playing at a lower standard than Orient next season...and thats something I never thought was possible.
Dobson is so wildly overrated by our fanbase. He only looks good because of the dross he's surrounded by.

My comment isn't based on yesterday alone, it's more of a general observation. I like Dobson, he's just nowhere near as good as Charlton fans make him out to be.

Agreed. To his credit, he's the best of a very bad bunch. We all admire his attitude for starters.

He's a talented player who sometimes does good things
Does good things maybe 25% of the time. Bang average 25% of the time.
Crap 50% of the time.
He's played over 100 1st team games for Charlton over the last four seasons and he's as inconsistent now as he was four years ago.
That had echoes of the performance under Fraeye away at Hull. Too many so called 'senior' players are ripping the piss - a similar number are genuinely crap At least Hayes had the cojones to face the cameras Weird mixed up selection. Was he saving frail bodies for the important business at Morecambe? If so then why involve A&Eke at all - he's not been any good staring games since 2020, doesn't look like he's arsed either - apart from that massive rear that's beginning to rival Hasselwank's for size. Garner's hopelessly muddled "thinking" seems to have been contagious. Hayes needs to have a great big hat full of rabbits if we're not about to plummet into the bottom 4. He'll get time obvs cos the danish shithouse is keeping his wallet closed and any developments will cost money.
One of the great ironies of this match is that one of our best players at pushing round lower league teams tends to be Stockley. He's had an absolute pig of a season and manages to find himself suspended for one of the very few games where he might have looked alright. Lovely stuff.
We missed Stockley so badly in the two Stockport games. If he's on the pitch in the 1st game (TBF he would've probably been taken off for Chuks) they might not score the headed equaliser because he is so strong at clearing corners.
Stockley has to play for all sorts of reasons; allows Chuks to do his thing late on, clears the corners, does at least occupy the defenders with a bit of physicality and, with the right service, should get some goals. All of these are reasons why he should start up front rather than Kirk or DJ.
We've had Stockley's physicality all season and it's yielded one goal from open play. I think we are now firmly at the stage where we've got to stop justifying what this current set of players, individually and collectively bring to this club.
I appreciate Garner's system doesn't suit Stockley, and he may be carrying an injury, and the fact that the likes of Aneke can only manage 20 minutes, but quite frankly, we should be past the point of caring. They're not good enough, any of them. This isn't a dig at you, but I find it baffling how much time we afford to crap players. Calling Aneke a cheat code is embarrassing. Talking up JFC in the Papa Johns games. Calling Raki Saki mustard at this level. Comments like, 'there's a player in there' with reference to Morgan. This is a group of players that have managed 6 wins in 20 I think. We were woeful last season, we weren't actually very good the season before when we finished 7th.
For me, it seems that the crap we have been served up consistently now has lowered our expectations to the point where we had many come out of Friday's game against Cheltenham saying we were unlucky and we played well in the second half. We've literally become a dog that's been beaten by it's owner and on the odd day our owner doesn't hurt us, we think, 'oh, this is okay really, we didn't get hit today'. Crass analogy I know, but we've been served shovels of shit for so long now, we've forgotten what acceptable looks like.
Acceptable, from a playing perspective was Lyle Taylor, Cullen, Aribo, Bielik etc. Not Matthews, Purrington, Elliott Lee, CBT, Mansfield, Mr Tickle or any of the other players that have been polluting this club over the last 2 - 3 years. They all need to go. the majority should've followed Gilbey on loan to a league 2 side. I've lost track of who people think is still capable at this level, but for me, I don't know if any of them are. Maybe Dobson, Clare at a push. You're then left with an absolute sorry bunch of professionals, paid to much for the job they do and without a backbone between them. There should've been a massive clear out in the summer of the season before last, and again this summer. There hasn't been, and nothing has changed.
They are beyond excuses, permutations of team selections or justifying there living with one bright moment every 5 games or whatever. Atrocious footballers, the lot of them
Thankfully I was out with a friend for a curry last night, but saw the last half hour. It wasn't good watching! The second goal was very poor. Clare just let his man walk into space and McGillivray should have done better. I think I should have had a couple more beers rather than hurrying back!

I hate to say it, but that performance was so awful - on so many levels - I think we’re nailed on for relegation.
There are so many things wrong with the team before you even contemplate the systematic dismantling of the club behind the scenes.
There was no heart in that performance. Is there any wonder when owner after owner has taken the scalpel to it time after time and now cut it out of the club. I think the years of mis management and dreadful ownership are going to catch up with us this season. Terrifying to think where that ends.
Look at a club like Bradford. Or Oldham. Or Wrexham.
We desperately need a mega rich lunatic who is happy to set fire to £200m to turn this around.
I'm convinced that anyone seriously considering buying the club would want to take a look at it's biggest forum to test the mood of the fanbase.
So I'm sure what you meant to say was 'We desperately need a mega rich visionary who is happy to invest £20m to turn this around.'

Will Collar who is a southerner is just the type of player who should be scouted and properly assessed by our 'scouting team (s)' .. he showed our midfield how it should be done, aggression, commitment and goal scoring ability.
Stockport is a club newly promoted from the Nationals which seemingly has belief and a proper plan for gradual success, unlike the drifting barge that is CAFC at this time
Stockport have a good owner, decent manager and a good set of players. Definitely heading in the right direction after hitting rock bottom in the National League North.
We continue to head downwards...
Stockport seem to get the basics right ..... build a good foundation, balanced team, formation to get the best out of their players, leaders on the pitch and the collective drive to do their best as a team unit.
And they prioritise on getting the result, rather than an arse-about-face methodology of playing to the sacred cow of a slow laboured over-elaborate possession gameplan.
Possession on it's own that goes nowhere but sideways and backwards isn't the answer - not without the points to win games.
Thankfully I was out with a friend for a curry last night, but saw the last half hour. It wasn't good watching! The second goal was very poor. Clare just let his man walk into space and McGillivray should have done better. I think I should have had a couple more beers rather than hurrying back!
