  • Horrible news to wake up to. I wasn't a big Ska fan and drifted there in later life, but Too Much Too Young, Ghost Town, Our Lips are Sealed.... It's part of the soundtrack I grew up with, and Terry Hall' deadpan style was part of that.
    Taken Too Soon. RIP
  • Sad news, saw him three times with The Specials, always great shows.

    RIP

Very sad news. First band I got into properly when about 7 or 8 watching there music vids on the virgin red button channel that used to exist. Also are a big fan of bits of Fun Boy Three and The Colourfield.

I also remember taking A Specials CD to school in Year 4 and playing it in the playground which we could. Stood up to those who didn't like it.

    RIP Terry.
  • Gutted to hear this. RIP
  • RIP.  Saw The Specials at the Lewisham Odeon in the day.

  • Terrible news. Great singer and lyricist and the music is as poignant now as it ever was. I was at a Specials gig about 5 years ago or so at the Troxy that is one of my all time favourites, it was just an all out party.

Been a shit year for losing people. RIP Terry.
  • Wrote some great songs and had a unique performing style.
    A sad loss.
    RIP.
  • Sad news, always liked The Specials RIP Terry.

The original car from the video is on display at the Coventry Music Museum in the 2-Tone village.

Gutted to hear this, am a big fan of The Specials.

Did both nights there, one with family and one with mates. Always brilliant live nights. Going to miss him so much. Up there with Weller for me for their impact on my life 🕴🏻

Terry Hall and Paul Weller are my musical heroes. Terry did so much good stuff during his career and wrote some great lyrics. I think he was hugely underrated and never really got the profile he deserved.

He was a uniquely British talent and a great loss.

  • Sad news - Specials, Fun Boy Three, and he got to shag Jane Weidlin! RIP Terry

A really great cover. Both troubled souls when it came to mental health issues.

RIP a huge talent - I regularly listen to The Specials in the car

As an aside, am I correct that the car in the Ghost Town video was - at the time - owned by a Charlton fan ??

  • So, so sad. :'( Such a talented and genuinely nice and humble fella. Taken far too soon. What a cool legend Terry was. R.I.P <3

Think it scarred him for most of his life.

    Enjoy yourself

Brilliant footage - seems like yesterday...
  • Shocked. RIP
  • Saw The Specials at Rochester Castle in the summer. He was on great form and very funny. Really shocked by this.
  • One of those bands that gave birth to modern Britain. What a talent. RIP.
  • Watching the Sky Arts recording of their 2014 Isle of Wight gig at the moment.  Not one I was at, but have been to so many Specials gigs over the years and always a brilliant night. He really has been an icon as front man of one of the most important groups of the last 40+ years.
