Put 350 on the board before we are all out.
Then have a short spell at them and get a couple out.
    Ideal opening day.

Apparently & surprising to me the live win probability is -
    England 42%
    Aus 36%
    Draw 22%.
    Eng 49%
    Aus 24%
    Draw 27%
I cant see a draw being one of the possible results. I know its only the 3rd session so all 3 should be a possibility but the pace at which we accumulate runs/lose wickets many of our Test matches are over before day 5. Unless there is a lot of rain around & we lose a days play.

Just listening to commentary on radio 5 and following online so I might have missed something.  Why?

Because we lost a wicket in this session. No point any more is there. Moeen in full flow? Falls upon a dead heart. We lost a wicket, you see

    Jesus fucking Christ.

I said a warm up game against Ireland was no preparation. Looks like we are treating this like a beer match & want to get home this evening.

winning the toss and batting on this pitch in this weather, you'd be expecting 400+

    Really below par imo.

Think the next three batsmen need to focus on giving Root the strike and then Joe needs to let loose. Get us to 385-400 and have a bowl at the end of the day

I'm obvs being dense.  Is it not a given that we lose wickets, and hope to score runs?

Apologies for my ignorance, I'm genuinely not being sarcastic.  I know we might have hoped our higher order batsmen would do better.

1985 at the Oval 6th Test.

Day 1, England were 376/3 at stumps.

That's how you play aggressively but properly.

Tomorrow and Sunday look much better days for bowling. Muggy and overcast - gonna be some swing in the air I reckon.

You may not be, but I was, lol

This has been a fine day's cricket from England imo. Stall set out nicely. A few tweaks required

380 should have been the bare minimum today. 420-450 would have been acceptable.
