i like robinson, but i think this is a big test match for him to shut up his critics. His bowling average speaks for itself imo.0

This ain't Ireland, and he ain't an international-class bowler. But let's see, weirder things have happened0

Warner looking to punch down the groundChizz said:Ben Stokes is very assertive with his field placings1 -
Michael Vaughan making the point on 5SX that Wood and Woakes are not gonna get test match fit by just bowling in the nets etc. .. send them back to their counties to play some real competitive cricket .. I agree totally5

This is an incredibly frustrating morning0

I think they have a basic choice. Either send them back to their counties or get them to play some real, competitive cricket.Lincsaddick said:Michael Vaughan making the point on 5SX that Wood and Woakes are not gonna get test match fit by just bowling in the nets etc. .. send them back to their counties to play some real competitive cricket .. This is the point I made yesterday about why England bowlers might not be match fit so break down more often as a result. I think we do "manage" our bowlers far more than some countries through that fear of injury but it actually can work against them for that reason.Lincsaddick said:Michael Vaughan making the point on 5SX that Wood and Woakes are not gonna get test match fit by just bowling in the nets etc. .. send them back to their counties to play some real competitive cricket .. Like The Hundred you mean? Have to wait for August for that but, with the best will in the world, 20 balls a game isn't going to get them match fit for a Test! The Ashes are over by then anyway because The ECB won't allow them to be played at the height of the summer.Chizz said:

I risk heresy here .. is Anderson still being selected for nostalgic/just hoping he's really not past it reasons ?Addick Addict said:

warner's batted very very well, must be said.0

We know that you don't like County cricket and that you have professed a liking for The Hundred. Bowling 25 overs in a County game will get them match fit and to get used to landing the ball in the right areas.Chizz said:

When did we start dragging multiple bowlers round the country to carry the drinks? Tongue, Potts etc were all at Edgbaston and Wood is chopping on a bag of apples in the pavilion here.Addick Addict said:

Are our two "spinners" here as well?0 -
his record over a long time suggests he more often bats very well than not very well .. like or loath, he's a class batsmankentaddick said:warner's batted very very well, must be said.0 -

I don't think county championship cricket can ever be described as "real, competitive cricket". I assume we differ on that. But if the contentions of both Michael Vaughan and @Lincsaddick are that Wood and Woakes would be better playing for their counties between now and the third Test, I disagree.Addick Addict said:

What games would they play between now and then that would benefit them more than working with the Test coaches? I don't think there are any.0 -
khawaja bowled by tongue without playing a shot!!0
-
and that's lunch! Great time to get a wicket.0
-
That might be the most pivotal wicket in the match, and by extension, the series.0

Well Tongue me!2

I don't understand why they take lunch straight away. Without going full-Golfie, why do they take lunch part-way through an over, when the wicket falls two minutes before the scheduled break?kentaddick said:and that's lunch! Great time to get a wicket.
I think they should always complete the over in play.0 -
Tongue's extra pace definitely a plus2

Their problem isn't technical, mindset or form which would be something to work with coaches on. Their problem is overs in the legs which you can only get in game situations. Stokes said himself regarding his knee after the last match that backing up spell after spell on consecutive days with hours in the field in between is very different from bowling controlled spells in the nets with a visit to the physio and sports massage specialists in between.Chizz said:

England are quite happy to release players to counties with stipulations about the number of overs they can bowl per innings/per day as they did with Sam Curran most of last season. Don't see why the same couldn't apply here.2 -
his extra pace enforces these misjudgment, that fraction of a second a batsman can come down on a decision on whether to play or not.Leuth said:
