The other half loved him, went to one of his shows many years ago that was on at 5pm every day on channel 4. Charming man that had time for everyone. RIP.
I loved Lily, saw her multiple times and the last in Prisoner Cell Block H. Absolutely hilarious. When Paul retired her I was a bit upset if I’m honest. But pretty soon I was glad because then we got all of Paul. What a joy he was, still with the Lily tongue thrown in every now & then.
Got to feel for his husband and all his animals.
Thanks for all the laughs Paul, rest easy now kid ♥️
Sad news - really funny guy, and seemed a very decent person on top of it.
RIP.
Saw earlier that he apparently used to be on (as Lily Savage) before Vic Reeves Big Night out once a week in a pub in New Cross - must have been a class night out, that.
Never got into Lily, but having seen Paul as himself in other programmes, I think I missed out. A very down to earth and likeable man. Rest in peace, Paul.
For me I'll always remember him on Radio 2 on a Sunday with his producer Malcolm. Listened to him driving back home with the kids from my parents. Seemed a nice caring bloke.
RIP, a thoroughly decent human being. Caring and compassionate, with a barbed tongue when needed. I was very sad to hear this today.
Heard Peter Tatchell of all people talking about him this morning telling of how he was the main act at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in the 80s when the police raided it all wearing latex gloves because they thought they might catch AIDS from gay men. There was a reason for him being so upfront about hating the Thatcher government, and we can easily forget the homophobia of those times if we didn't directly experience it.
I've never really got drag acts, but Lily Savage used to crack me up. When he played himself, so to speak, on TV and radio shows he always seemed like a really decent bloke as well.
Lily Savage was from Liverpool but Paul O'Grady was the lad from the Irish family who lived across the Mersey in Birkenhead.
Amazing journey from being a social worker to Drag artist to friends with Royalty. He knew when to leave the Drag Queen persona behind and revert to Paul O'Grady, the all round comedian and presenter. Dogs were his passion and he had a successful career.
Lived his last 25 years in the garden of England in Kent,
I wasn’t too keen on the Lily Savage persona but off stage being himself he was a very likeable and personable guy. His love of dogs went down very well with myself and Zuben of course.
Met him in Hythe when I lived in Ashford about 30 years ago while looking in an antique shop. Extremely pleasant person, chatted for a while about our love of animals. No sign of him being famous, just an ordinary person, who was polite and happy. RIP
A genuinely likeable guy which shone through as clear as day in everything he did. A champion of the LGBTQ community and of animals, especially dogs. R.I.P. I did get a tear in my eye when I heard the news.

I think Paul was on stage as Lily Savage and said, when seeing the gloves, "well at least we've got help with the washing up" - rapid.
A very funny and generous man who will be sorely missed. RIP.
Just watching ITV at the moment and they’re showing his royal special of For The Love of Dogs. He was brilliant with his support for Battersea Dogs Home and from all the tributes I’ve seen today, a totally decent bloke, giving his time and money to help others, especially in his adopted home in Kent.
Here he is with our little dog, Rusty, on his Christmas special from Battersea a few years ago - sadly both now gone. We had picked Rusty up a couple of weeks earlier and had no idea he would feature on the show.
It was very sad news to wake up to, one of the good guys and taken far too soon. RIP Paul.

Loved Lily back in the day; fantastic performer and funny as f**k - wit as sharp as a knife.
