POST-MATCH THREAD: Charlton Athletic vs Shrewsbury Town: Saturday 1st April 2023: KO 3.00Pm

It’s a happy Valley this afternoon as Charlton hit Shrewsbury Town for six (and keep a rare clean sheet)! Fraser opened the scoring on 26 minutes with a peach of a free kick that he tucked neatly into the top corner. Five more goals followed, with Morgan, Rak-Sakyi, Leaburn (x2), and Bonne finding the back of the net. Not much more needs to be said. This doesn’t happen everyday, and I know for most it’s a thoroughly uncomfortable feeling(!), but do try and enjoy it!!!

Charlton 6 Shrewsbury Town 0

Over to you.

Amazing! Think that must be the biggest home win I’ve ever seen.

Unless you're in your 50s then it would be!

The scary thing is, I saw all 3 of those games back in the 70s.

    Fantastic result.

However another season spent in mid table league 1, coming to the end of season in matches that mean naff all and players are turning up.

Those that were there hope you enjoyed.

Pressing game absolutely on fire today. Let's see more of that from now on. The case for Fraser and Morgan grows more compelling....

Sorry, clearly I should have consulted you before I called it as I saw it. Not sure how I'm ever going to get over what I've just done!

The 6-0 today not only has done our goal difference a power of good if we're aiming for a top 10 finish, but it's wrecked Shrewsbury's GD.

Just 3 points behind them with a now far superior goal difference.

The too little too late mob turn up for contract time.

Don't get me wrong, superb performance all over the pitch, well done lads but WE have spent too many post matches wondering why this lot cannot put a shift in, in this God forsaken pony league over the years.

Maybe Holden is the man, maybe this is a turning point in our fortunes, I dunno? Just happy tonight.

    Up the Addicks!

But, let's be clear, before Holden we were on course for a relegation fight, so maybe let's enjoy a little optimism this evening?
  • So nice to come away from the Valley bouncing and with a smile on my face.
Was 6-2 Saints in 76 the last six? Then the Swansea  6-0 and Nott's County 6-1 before that.
    I was a young Turk back then, this year I' m 70.
Don't make me wait that long again boys!

What a performance everyone played well. If Holden was here at the start of the season we'd be a lot higher up in the table

Absolutely lovely. We were clinical, but we earned it by being so dominant in the middle third. Pressing was excellent. Passing game started a little shaky and then became really crisp. Great day all around.

Bloomin' 'eck, 25 years ago already. A quarter of a century ago.

What was I saying, time passing in a blink of an eye?

Try telling that to the kids of today - and they won't believe you. ;)

Perhaps DH was right telling AM that he will give him a run of games, helps gives him confidence

Holden has been hnting and sometimes even saying, that players are playing for their futures in his next season plans.
He's obviously told them what he's planning to do next season and told them to prove to him they want to be included in his plans.

And that doesn't just apply to the players out of contract.
He proved by moving Stockley out that if players are not doing it he'll jog them on.

Shrewsbury completely fell apart in the second half but they were not terrible at all in the first half and we looked excellent.

What happened?? Same players, same formation but everyone was on it and the midfield in particular were excellent. Thomas had a very good game at left back as well.

In a season that will largely remembered for the wrong reasons, it’s great to have a game like that to enjoy.

There is one of two conclusions to this issue - either I never give player marks again or you mind your own business. Given that I will mark players again given how I see the game I respectfully suggest you find something more constructive to post about.
