MATCH THREAD ; Cheltenham Town Vs Charlton Athletic ; Sunday 7th May 2023 KO 12.00 Noon

So, it's 46 and out today, be nice to go out on a win and cement out "achievement" of a top half finish
and we owe Cheltenham after the 0-1 reverse back in December at The Valley, which dampened somewhat our 30 years Back To The Valley celebrations, in what proved to be Ben Garners last game in charge..
Anyway let's all get behind them today eh, for one more time...here we go..

Mandela Egbo and Aaron Henry will start the final game of the season against Cheltenham Town as Dean Holden makes two changes from the team that beat Port Vale last weekend and includes 11 academy graduates in his squad.

George Dobson, who is one booking away from a multi-game suspension, is not risked while Sean Clare misses out with the ankle injury he sustained in the win against Port Vale.

Like Dobson, Ryan Inniss hasn’t been risked as he would face an extended suspension if he were to be sent off.

Egbo joins skipper Michael Hector, Terrel Thomas and Steven Sessegnon in a back four in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.

Henry partners Albie Morgan and Scott Fraser in a midfield trio behind last week’s goalscorers Jes Rak-Sakyi, Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell.

Joe Wollacott and Jack Payne joined on the bench by academy graduates Jacob Roddy, Zach Mitchell, Nathan Asiimwe, Henry Rylah and Daniel Kanu.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; Egbo, Hector (c), Thomas, Sessegnon; Morgan, Henry, Fraser; Rak-Sakyi, Leaburn, Campbell

Substitutes: Wollacott, Asiimwe, Roddy, Mitchell, Payne, Rylah, Kanu

  • So no Inniss after all!
  • So that’s Inniss and loanees left out - former released, none of the latter to be offered contracts?

Thomas and Hector to be offered new deals?

Same for Henry and Morgan, or could either be playing as we have no one else?

Dobson left out to avoid a yellow card and missing 3 games next season.

    Who have I missed?

Hopefully some of the youngsters on the bench get some minutes.
  • Wouldn't it be good to see those academy graduates on the bench get some game time..
  • Inniss' omission has been explained (hopefully). And one loanee is starting! The one we'd want to keep even
  • Would have been simply incredible bants for Inniss to play and get sent off again mind
  • Hopefully the end of Inniss and Clare.

Sessegnon and Rak-Sakyi are starting from the loanees.

Big game for Aaron Henry, needs more than token games here and there though to be allowed to make a proper impression.

Interesting to see Roddy appearing for his first League game (?)

Sounds like its deserved though given comments after the London Senior Cup Final.

  • Looks like a nice surface today, so no excuses...
  • No Todd Kane? On his way too?
  • Find it interesting that a reason was given for the Inniss exclusion but not Clare.
  • No Kane on the bench is a surprise. That suggests Holden doesn't want him either

Clare has an ankle problem... Going to be seeing a specialist, or has just seen one (Cant remember)

Holden just mentioned him a moment ago in his pre-match Interview

Ankle injury being looked at this week apparently...

He sees a much better prospect in Roddy:-)

Let's hope Innis ommision in case he gets a red and a possible 7 match ban next season proves irrelevant, the guy is a massive liability, even allowing for the odd good game or goal, he needs replacing next season...hopefully by Ness..🤷‍♂️
  • Scott, the club should pay for the assisted hearing equipment for the visually impaired, have a word upstairs
  • Oh Roddy roddy, roddy roddy roddy roddy um Roddy.

Knew he’d come good, shame Martin never got the place on the bench he’d been promised 😞
  • I think Scott Minto said that the players had been told about contract renewals on Friday. If so, that suggests that Inniss is on the way out and that maybe Thomas is going to be offered a deal. I guess his few appearances at left back won’t have harmed his chances and he’ll be cheap.

it would be good to see Zach Mitchell and Kanu get some proper minutes. Possibly also a first taste for Henry Rylah, even if just at the end.

Have you heard of something called 'having a squad'? Not even I think he should probably be in our first-choice line-up next season, but we won't find a better back-up, or one on such, um, competitive wages. Plus he's obviously a great guy to have around in the dressing room and on the training pitch, as Holden has no hesitation in giving him leadership responsibilities
I think I agree with that. His only quality is perhaps ‘dressing room banter’ and ‘geeing up the lads’
  • Matt Murray commentating on our game on SSN, and showing goals
  • Here we go... Teams are out for one last hurrah

Great...so keep him on for his banter, he's a liability...
