I think he wants a crack at Championship football and that’s fair enough. Just needs a couple of injuries ahead of him and he might get a shot
Should have stayed at The Valley then as it turns out...
Let's not forget that Alfie did not feature in Nathan Jones' plans for last season rightly or wrongly. Although this did lead to us signing super Matty Godden and erm Ahadme.
    Allegedly...🤷‍♂️

I could have used the word apparently I guess ;)
  • If he does leave Birmingham, I just hope he leaves any rented accommodation in a better condition than the last one apparently was
  • He was never going to play in the Championship for Birmingham and I think everyone knew that when he signed except for him. Probably just a matter of wanting to end his career with Championship football on his CV, which is fair enough but looking more and more unlikely.

Not sure I’d move to Huddersfield if I was him. He won’t be getting a better contract there and he has a chance of playing some Championship football at Birmingham (even if it’s just off the bench/during an injury crisis).
  • He’s not good enough for the championship. Had the chance to fight for a spot in a championship team knew he wasn’t up for it.

He will go to who will pay him the most money. I have no problem with that. It is clear Birmingham don't see him as part of the Championship squad. He wasn't a main part of their League One squad. If he stays at Birmingham, he will go out on loan.
  • Obviously I wish him the best, but it’s hilarious how he’s somehow ended up back in League One, playing for a team who finished 10th.

I don't think it's the fact he doesn't want to fight for a spot, i expect it's Birmingham who have accepted a bid, there's no guarantee they'd have him as a squad member.

A championship side gunning for the title. He may be able to do a good job for a midtable side and he'll be amongst the top goal scorers in league one next season.

Unless he wants to stay and fight for his place?
  • The problem is that his wife's demands prevent him from signing for about ten clubs in the Championship. It's a shame, it looks like he isn't ever going to get a crack at tier two.

He can refuse to sign for Huddersfield, just because a bid is accepted doesn't mean a player has to go. Had every chance to back himself and fight for a spot but has taken the easy option
  • Should have done an announcement video about him being a year late.

I'm thinking something Back to the Future themed?

Yes true, but maybe Brum have told him there's no way he's getting in the side unless everyone else is crocked?

I'm assuming the reason Huddersfield have given him a 3 year contract despite his age is that he'll be getting the same amount Birmingham would have paid him overall. Probably makes no difference to him if he was intending to retire after this anyway.
  • 3 year deal - another decent signing on fee no doubt

fair play Alfie - pretty much guarantees goals as well

His wife always wanted him to be playing for a side closer to home...for a few reasons.  But good luck to him.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/clyl0lg0ek1o

He just wants to play, rather than get splinters in his arse.

He'll be on a very decent deal at Huddersfield, I've no doubt.

  • I wonder if he will cry in his goodbye video to Brum fans?
  • He's also now got a League One title medal.

Perhaps he wants another one? 🙂

I doubt we'll ever know, he was mostly on the bench last season and I'm sure he's even more down the pecking order now.
    Good luck to him anyway.

He made 57 appearances in total last season across all competitions, scoring 17 goals. What sort of stats do you need to be considered a main part of a squad?

The debate will rage on re how effective he would have been in the Championship but 27 starts and 17 sub appearances is more minutes than Godden had. If Birmingham hadn't broken the bank to sign Stansfield he would have started even more matches and improved on that tally of 16 goals and 8 assists. No player will get any where near his 103 goals in the last four seasons in League 1 and he will almost certainly guarantee Huddersfield 20 goals/assists at that level this season.

Godden played 2,519 minutes and May played 2,350 in the league last season. Allowed Godden to take 8 more shots and score 2 more league goals. May had a stronger team around him but also played a decent chunk of his minutes as a 10 or second striker

And playing in an alternative role allowed May to have 8 assists as opposed to Godden's one.

I wonder if for Alfie, it isn't simply down to money. There is longevity this deal too. The Hudds deal is 3 years, which I doubt he had left on his contract at Brum. As for the salary, maybe it's not too big a drop as Hudds have reasonably deep pockets at League One level. Alfie is a passion player. He loves to play. Last season would have done little for his wellbeing, watching others take the accolades.
If money was his goal, he could have probably stayed at Brum (more money?) and maybe got a bonus for staying up or even a promotion.
He knows he can perform at League One and hold his own. It's a no brainer.
  • Let's face it, Birmingham will sign more attacking players this summer,  so he will end up even further down the pecking order there.

Huddersfield signed Joe Taylor and Dion Charles in January,  I can see one of them moving on, probably Charles.
