I wonder if he will cry in his goodbye video to Brum fans?
Video is on hold. Birmingham are struggling to find some background piano music with the right level of melancholy to it.
  • Btw May still led Birmingham in combined goals and assists last season and that was despite his limited playing time. With 9 players on the bench I'm surprised they're not keeping him as an impact sub.
  • 3 year contract probably does 2 and finishes his career at Doncaster with another signing on fee

Fair play to him for sweating the asset

To be fair to him he probably played a substantial amount of his career playing for "boot" money.
  • Good on him, great signing for Huddersfield - eventually.

Cawley saying he isn’t convinced May wants to move
May never does want to move. It's his managers, club's directors, his wife and his family what make him do it
  • Its becoming clear that most people here dont know how football contracts work, its not as simple as May signs for Huddersfield for less money and everyone is happy. Real life isnt Fifa or Football Manager. Its likely he is getting a payout from Birmingham too as they probably need him to move off the wage bill whether that be one flat fee or if its a case they will pay a % of his huddersfield contract for a given time. If it is just for an extra year at Huddersfield then he must be on a substantially good contract there.
  • Should have done an announcement video about him being a year late.

I'm thinking something Back to the Future themed?
Thats nonsense and not something to be joked about as a lot of people on here who are friends of his uncles, dads, dog etc were adament that he only recorded the video under duress to be allowed to move ! Charlie boy was in his threateningly bright chinos pointing a mauser at him and making him read a script.

It can't be that easy, especially with kids and possible schooling issues, having four clubs in four seasons.

  • Good luck to him.

I hear he deserved his pay off as season ticket sales exploded after his video.

100% on the money as usual Mr Spoons.
It is almost certain that Alfie will not be financially worse off,  he's not going anywhere unless that is the case.

But but but......he only left us so he could go back North for family reasons. And then Birmingham stepped in with an un- turn downable offer so had to go there instead.

  • He will go to who will pay him the most money. I have no problem with that. It is clear Birmingham don't see him as part of the Championship squad. He wasn't a main part of their League One squad. If he stays at Birmingham, he will go out on loan.
I wonder if for Alfie, it isn't simply down to money. There is longevity this deal too. The Hudds deal is 3 years, which I doubt he had left on his contract at Brum. As for the salary, maybe it's not too big a drop as Hudds have reasonably deep pockets at League One level. Alfie is a passion player. He loves to play. Last season would have done little for his wellbeing, watching others take the accolades.
If money was his goal, he could have probably stayed at Brum (more money?) and maybe got a bonus for staying up or even a promotion.
He knows he can perform at League One and hold his own. It's a no brainer.
Reckon he got three years a compensate for the drop in salary. Only two years and he might not have signed. Either way I doubt he's losing out by moving on again.
  • Pity Cheltenham Town, who sold him for £250k, as they thought it would be his last move and a chance for him to get some decent money when he came to us. Since then he moved twice, both with profit on his transfer fee.
  • He’s not good enough for the championship. Had the chance to fight for a spot in a championship team knew he wasn’t up for it.
I take it he called you and explained all this?

The problem is that his wife's demands prevent him from signing for about ten clubs in the Championship. It's a shame, it looks like he isn't ever going to get a crack at tier two.
His wife always wanted him to be playing for a side closer to home...for a few reasons.  But good luck to him.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/clyl0lg0ek1o
Yes I know, that's why I said it?
  • I like May's non league player made good story and I appreciate him for being a player who never let us down (literally as that Charlton team would have been in relegation fight without his goals). I wish him nothing but success and hoped he milks every penny from the rest of his career.
Let's face it, it's easy to be magnanimous now we're a league above him, but i hope he does well at Huddersfield.

I never understood how he wasn't snapped up after his first L1 season at Cheltenham,  as he more or less single handedly kept them up that season,  and instead of getting a move up the ladder, spent another season keeping them up before we finally stepped in.
  • Do we get any money from this I wonder?

Don’t need to speak to him for what is clearly obvious

How dare you, Football Manager would pay respect to that, with the other team demanding you cover part of the wages for the remainder of the contract they had with you.
  • Someone just held up a Alfi May card, at the darts.
  • I actually think May is really unlucky with what happened at Birmingham last season. If they didn’t sign Stansfield then he probably would have ended up with 30 goals with the penalties and extra minutes he’d have got, with maybe 15 assists. With those numbers I’m pretty sure he’d have got a chance in the championship. Also robbed him of 4 20 goal seasons in a row

I’d imagine quite a bit of the transfer fee was Birmingham getting Huddersfield to pay more and that money is going straight to May’s pay off.

You can guarantee that May won’t be receiving a penny less than he is owed, otherwise it would be a loan move
