All about contacts and contracts and the football network.
As we all know the X-factor player Yann Kermorgant came later after the season started because Chris Powell worked with him at Leicester when he was assistant to Nigel Pearson.
A squad assembled to get us out of League 1 and it worked a treat.
Déjà vu in 23/24 🤞✔️💁🏻♂️💁🏿♂️
Good call Bob.

Impressive interview0

I know it’s only words but how can any supporter not be impressed and enthused by that Andy Scott interview.4
-
Very good interview.1
-
They'd look absolutely mental if they now go and close the academy, cut a load of costs and assets and try and sell a bunch of our players.
Thankfully, from what we've seen and heard so far, that was just a load of scaremongering8 -
I was impressed with Andy Scott the first time around and now he can say things that were difficult when Thomas Sandgaard was still in the building ( metaphorically speaking)
Shame about the 5 months he disappeared from Sparrows lane as vital time was wasted.
August may be awkward yet again as we are trying to merge new players in and our fan base only believe the honeymoon period lasts until just after HT against Orient.
Holden and Scott is a decent double act but have they come together quick enough for the start of this season ? Possibly not, but better late than never.
It a shock to the system having people sounding professional at Cafc.
It's been a while.

Very impressed with that interview. Sets out his thoughts and plans. Very positive about the club and wants to get it to where it belongs. Promotion is tgecsim by having a strong squad.
Very glad he's here indeed.3 -

They'll hide behind the FFP excuse and keep hoping the youth drag us well beyond their current ability.0

Let’s blow it all up and start again with two weeks left in the summer window instead of seeing it through. 🙄1

Still baffled by this appointment. Not in terms of why we as a club would want him, but why he himself would choose to be here. What is he getting out of it?
He's only ever worked at clubs higher up than us. His last 2 roles were working with Steve Cooper who is an excellent manager. He lost his job at Forest who were by then a Premier league club and i'm certain he would have had better offers than us.
So why has he chosen to be at a struggling league one club who seemingly have no money to spend on players?2 -
Only so many jobs going around?0
-
Maybe he's been given more control0
-
I wonder what the players think of him ?

Good interviewer apparently.
Failed in January and failed this summer unless he brings in 6-7 names in the next week.2 - Sponsored links:

I listened to part of last night’s Charlton Live emergency podcast, there was a great point about the recent change in how Holden spoke about recruitment. It went from “we” to a being down to Andy Scott. What became clear in preseason is Holden wanted players for 3-5-2 - it’s arguably more difficult to recruit for as you need specialist wing backs, they need the legs and ability to be able to defend and attack effectively, and you need CBs who are comfortable in the wide roles.
@AFKABartram speculated Holden and Scott have been at loggerheads all summer. If that’s the case hopefully we’ll see several signings join this week - but I think anyone expecting 6+ is going to be disappointed.0 -
Big week for Andy. It’s starting to look like he has only come here because it’s close to his Brentwood home.
Hopefully he can show us otherwise by bringing in the striker and full backs we require to get through the season + strengthen our clear weaknesses elsewhere (particularly at CB).2 -

GK - Isted, AMB.
LB - Edun + 1
RB - Dabo (where is he?), Asiimwe.
CB - Hector, Jones, Ness, Thomas + 1. Not convinced by Deji.
DM - Dobson, Taylor
Midfield - Anderson, Fraser, Camara, Payne. + 1
Wingers - CBT, Campbell x2
Striker - May, Leaburn, Kanu + 1. Not counting Aneke.
I think we need a minimum 4 though. I can see why people would argue for 6 though as it would be good to have a more senior RB than Asiimwe and ideally another winger.
However it all depends on the formation the new manager wants to play. If he's playing 4 at the back for example, then we probably have enough centre backs (if they can get organised). But then we definitely need another winger.
If he's playing a 442 diamond then it'll be Dobson + Fraser and we might not need another midfielder.
If he's playing 4231 then do we need 4 strikers if only 1 will start?
This is why it's a mess changing the manager 5 days before the window closes.4 -

IIRC he was late coming in because he was employed elsewhere and had to serve notice. I don't know about you Ross but every job I've ever left has been full on in my final weeks. Finalising work, handing over what I couldn't get done and even mentoring when my replacement is in the door. In summary no time whatsoever to think about the next job.
Admittedly, I've never worked in the football industry and you may have, but with respect it seems a harsh assessment to me.0 -
