If this had gone through you would have found it very hard to find any free parking within reasonable walking distance of The Valley for day games (unless you include people that park up breaking the parking restrictions and taking a chance they are not ticketed).
It would have all been resident's only or metered parking and the parking places were also going to be reduced.1 -

I’ve just tried to book the Asda as I usually do for the Birmingham and Wrexham games on just park and it’s £24! Was a fiver last season for some games
Is there anything walkable with a reasonably quick getaway to the Blackwall Tunnel that’s not charging the price of a ticket to park ?1 -

I've probably asked this before, but am I alright parking around Troughton/ Rathmore rd at around 6 tomorrow night?
Do the restrictions still end at 18:30?

Assuming it is a "normal" bay where restrictions end at 18.30, you can park from 16.30 because you are allowed to park for 2 hours and then at 18.30 you're ok anyway.carly burn said:I've probably asked this before, but am I alright parking around Troughton/ Rathmore rd at around 6 tomorrow night?

Croydon council lost in the High Court yesterday.
Ruling made that Lower Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) are unlawful and are simply used to raise revenue.
So hopefully Greenwich may reverse all theirs that are causing endless problems to Greenwich, Blackheath & Charlton residents.6 -
Such a shame the lawyers win every time, and at the expense of the tax payer.Why can't councils work for the prosperity of the residents and businesses they represent.Worlds gone mad I tell you.1

The Tory mayor of Croydon appears to be a bit of a berk, but his public remarks are not going to be material anywhere else. It’s always been the case that you can’t introduce traffic orders or raise parking charges for narrowly financial reasons. Every council knows that.1

Sorry to be that person - but as someone who works in the industry, everything you’ve said above is nonsense. There’s a lot of good material in the public domain which explains what it’s for and why the money is charged/what the surpluses are used for and funding applied for. Current legislation and regulation councils work to is poor so Lane Rental schemes are there is supplement it. It’s not the council who comes up with this, rather the inability of the DfT/government to think of sensible statute for them to work towards. Councils are scraping at every barrel and carrot they are given.Carter said:

I understand lane rental schemes and you are correct it isnt the council its the highway authority and the leadership of those authorities all see pound signs and can't consult on them fast enough. Then they end up with surplus funds as utilities believe it or not don't get much choice when they can work and when they can't, digging holes at night is as popular as you would expect for both residents and those of us lucky enough to be volunteered to do it.
Kent for example is a sensible place to have lane rental. The A20 on its own is reason enough to be lane rental but not most of the list of roads on it which is ever expanding.
Me and you could probably rabbit back and forth for days on this and make strong arguments depending on what side of the fence you sit. I also agree the department for transport don't help0 -

- apply to operate a scheme
Lane rental allows a highway authority to charge up to £2,500 per day for works on the busiest roads at the busiest times. It helps to minimise disruption and charges apply to works promoted by both utility companies and highway authorities. Schemes need to be approved by the Secretary of State for Transport before they can become operational.
There are currently 5 lane rental schemes in operation.
