    El Nino is being exacerbated by climate change.

    If you believe that the climate is changing what natural phenomena are causing it? El Nino happens every few years, not every year, yet extremes of weather are increasing all over the world.

    Stifling debate is not happening, I think most of us are happy to have this debate and challenge some of the mis\disinformation that is widely circulated across social media.

    I certainly try to counter claims with scientific evidence, not hearsay. Nearly every argument on here against man made climate change has been refuted with scientific evidence. If you have any evidence to the contrary, please share it, I for one would welcome it.

    I believe climate change is real but one of the main causes for me is an ever increasing world population. 
    I have posted this before and some on here try and say it's not a major factor.

    The problem on here is if you have a different opinion as to the causes of climate change to some of you , you get heavy criticism. 

    A few days ago someone who posts regularly on here labeled people blaming a rise in the population as neo fascists. 

    Well i suppose I must be one then because I firmly believe the more the world's population increases the greater our need for ever more water, food, energy and everything else.

    Its been the same for years mate as you know. Its now the same little troupe on a few threads. Some must have brains like medicine balls such is their great depth of so called knowledge  (ie google).

    Dare anyone see things in a different way particularly based on their own life experience out come the usual insults as demonstrated on this page alone.

    Think its fairly obvious. The more people there are the more our natural resources are going to be consumed. The movement of those over populated areas and the fact that some nations dont understand birth control is further added to that. As we are havng to provide food, energy to our over populated planet then obviously areas have to made free to house wll thesepeole.

    But what would help is those who want everyone else to do something and not them. As demonstrated on the previous pages...
    I absolutely agree that more humans will use more of the earth's resources. The date in the year when humans use more resources than the earth can provide, gets earlier each year.

    You reply doesn't make it obvious as to how that changes the climate. Which of those resources that humans are using, causes the climate change that you agreed with Blackpool is real?

    But, CO2 emissions are fast outpacing population growth.  And the main areas of population growth are in low-emission countries.  The rate of population growth is declining.  The rate of global temperature increases isn't. 

    Population growth is, therefore, a small contributory factor in climate change.  
    I fear that’s far too complicated for some to understand.

It's having the collective willpower as individuals and governments to see it through, the unanswered question being can the natural balance be restored by us simply cutting Co2 and Methane emissions. What other natural cycles are so out of balance now that we can't restore them to what they were? Do we really have that level of control of the Earth's thermostat?

    Although you’re absolutely right that we can all do something. This has to be driven by governments. Doing our recycling bins and turning off a light helps. It does but this is going to need much much more that frankly just isn’t going to be achieved by the above. Eventually the world will realise that it’s going to be all over and it’ll most likely too late. Quite what the tipping point will be who knows but it will come. Mass starvations, mass migrations, armed conflict at borders, cities decimated. A planetary reset looks inevitable to me.

    Unfortunately that's likely to be true.

    All the time that we have people in power that promote false narratives, there will always be people that believe them. It's ironic that the very things like migration that are promoted as being bad, are exactly the likely outcome of the man made climate change that they deny is true.

    When vast swathes of the planet of the planet become uninhabitable mass migration, fights over precious resources like water, food and shelter from the extreme weather, are inevitable.

    We all need to pull together, instead of the constant division promoted by some, put pressure on Governments to do much more. We also need proper education on the science of Climate Change.

    How do you put pressure on governments? If there is any chance of stopping/reversing global warming (I personally don't think there's much hope of that) then very unpopular decisions will have to be made. Certainly in a democracy, all governments of any hue have a timeline to the next election, so 3-4 years and then the last year spent campaigning. There would need to be fundamental changes to the way we live our lives but little more than tinkering will happen. Human nature is to live for today - and hoping for better things in the future brought about by their impact is ultimately futile, and probably is. The Bard summed it up better than anyone else could ever have:

    Arguably our next government could be filled with climate change deniers or at least those that take the fossil fuel industry shilling to keep schtum. There’s absolutely no chance of draconian measures coming into force even if they are needed.

    Ultimately, you are right. The big question is whether or not humans and the thousands, possibly millions, of species we are endangering will be in the mix when the sorting happens.

    These subjects shouldn't be subject to government-centric policies. These should be approached together and continued even when there is a change in party. But we know that won't happen.

    Ultimately, you are right. The big question is whether or not humans and the thousands, possibly millions, of species we are endangering will be in the mix when the sorting happens.
    It’s morbidly fascinating. Hard to see mankind pushed to extinction but pushed into something very different from now and in perhaps small numbers is quite plausible. Many habitats both human and animal could disappear. Of course that’s the nightmare scenario which hopefully never materialises but who really knows ?

    Nobody is using the argument that one hot summer or an extended few weeks of high temperatures is cast iron proof of global warming/climate change. But maybe there is evidence with 200 plus years of exponentially accelerating average global temperature, a similar accelerating rise in average ocean temperatures, and the melting of the ice caps - i.e.

    Earth's polar ice sheets and caps are losing massive amounts of mass rather than completely disappearing. Greenland loses about 266 billion tons of ice per year and Antarctica loses roughly 135 billion tons per year. Meanwhile, Arctic September sea ice area has halved since satellite records began in 1979 

    We can discuss and argue about the causes and whether or not we have time and the ability to do something about it, but denying the earth is warming is just idiocy. 

    Maybe the planet is warming but it also did in the medieval warming period for a few hundred years and that was caused by many factors not burning fossil fuels. If you think weather/climate is just a straight line then you're wrong. It changes and has changed throughout history for many different reasons.

I worked in cancer treatment for thirty years and I see the parallels with this argument to what I saw when people said my granny smoked thirty cigarettes a day for 50 years and she didn’t get cancer. Some people believed that despite all the scientific research, data collection and analysis that smoking didn’t cause cancer. This rejection of the overwhelming evidence is now being trotted out to say that climate change isn’t being accelerated by man’s activity. Yes of course climate is cyclical but there is now no doubt that unless “we” do something man is heading for a unprecedented catastrophe. Those of you that subscribe to the same belief as TD_Addick need to start listening to what science has to say on the matter.

    And the climate had been stable for 12,000 years before the last 150years with movements of less than half a degree above or below the mean (so a total 1 degree variation window).

    Bless you lot for trying but why do you bother? It’s the same few people every time and they have proven again and again that they are anti-evidence. You can present them with all the facts and figures and disprove whatever false theory they’ve latched onto and they will ignore it entirely or shift the goalposts to talk about cars or China or, bizarrely, Covid again just to remind you they do this on every topic.     If we agree it exists, it is pointless arguing the detail of what caused it. The whole world has to unite to solve it. Individuals can't solve it. They can ensure they vote for people who do not deny climate change. And that's about it. But I fear that is too much for some. What is sad and depressing is that denying Climate Change is a vote winner for ceryain mindsets and the leader of the free World denies it!

    Just like some/most of the places I have worked or even some of my friends, on here there are some contrary buggers.
    They will swear black is white just to be different just to get a rise out of someone. This absolutely ruins forums, there are plenty of flat earther sites out there. I believe, like most normal people in the world, that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinion. But facts are not opinions, by all means have an opinion but keep shouting out the same old opinion will never make it a fact, unless of course you can back up your opinion with a peer reviewed fact.

    Fauci or RFK couldn't care less because ultimately I'm not American the point I make is Fauci is a senior figure and scientist who lied. The climate change fear mongers love scientists,  he lied and is a scientist.

    Nobody is using the argument that one hot summer or an extended few weeks of high temperatures is cast iron proof of global warming/climate change. But maybe there is evidence with 200 plus years of exponentially accelerating average global temperature, a similar accelerating rise in average ocean temperatures, and the melting of the ice caps - i.e.

    Earth's polar ice sheets and caps are losing massive amounts of mass rather than completely disappearing. Greenland loses about 266 billion tons of ice per year and Antarctica loses roughly 135 billion tons per year. Meanwhile, Arctic September sea ice area has halved since satellite records began in 1979 

    We can discuss and argue about the causes and whether or not we have time and the ability to do something about it, but denying the earth is warming is just idiocy. 

    Maybe the planet is warming but it also did in the medieval warming period for a few hundred years and that was caused by many factors not burning fossil fuels. If you think weather/climate is just a straight line then you're wrong. It changes and has changed throughout history for many different reasons.

    And the climate had been stable for 12,000 years before the last 150years with movements of less than half a degree above or below the mean (so a total 1 degree variation window). 
    Daily records began in 1770 not sure how you know about the last 12,000 years.  
    By this reasoning we'd have to assume that Henry VIII was swanning about in constant 35° heat in this get up, and somehow not dying immediately?



    Also, what about the ice age, if we apparently didn't know the temperature before 1770, is that all bollocks as well?
    Do you actually read my posts? Let me slow it down for you, daily yes daily temperatures did not begin until the 1700s. Periods before that have been documented yes but in different ways.

    And where have I said as long as it suits me? I carbon offset my flights and hotels, I take trips abroad few and far between otherwise and use public transport unless absolutely necessary to use a car, and then it's a hybrid. I sign up to renewable source energy plans, I eat meat 3 times a week and veggie other than that and recycle as much as possible.

    Fauci has been accused by the republicans of lying which he denies by the way. I’ll admit I don’t know enough about this to give a valuable opinion. What I will opine on though is that he’s far more qualified to lead a public health organisation than the current moron. 

    As for the conspiracy theory i think you subscribe to its, that man made climate change is a hoax.

    What happens in the USA concerns all of us. The last 20 months are proof of that. 

    The USA has been a big supporter of scientific research in many different fields. We all benefit from scientific progress. We need the scientists and researchers that find new drugs, treatments for diseases, solutions to the problems of climate change. 

    Dr Fauci has been unfairly picked on by the Trump administration. Since when did scientists become the bad boys? 

    Everyone should fear climate change. Have you seen the devastation of the fires in Stourbridge? That could happen to any community. The hot dry conditions make such devastation far more likely. 

    Please stop putting your head in the sand.

    Climate change isn’t a distant possibility, it’s a real, ongoing threat. Human greenhouse gas emissions are warming the planet, driving more extreme heat and contributing to rising seas, melting ice and increasingly disruptive weather. The longer we delay, the harder and more expensive the problem becomes. 

    So, what should Andy Burnham do?

    1. Make clean energy Britain’s priority.  Accelerate renewable energy, upgrade the electricity grid and make it dramatically easier and faster to build the infrastructure Britain needs. Cut our dependence on fossil fuels while bringing energy bills down.
    2. Transform public transport. Create a genuinely integrated, affordable national transport system, with better buses, rail and cycling infrastructure, so that choosing public transport over a car becomes the easy option, not a sacrifice.
    3. Insulate Britain properly. Launch a huge national programme to insulate homes, improve energy efficiency and replace fossil-fuel heating. That means warmer homes, lower bills and lower emissions. 
    4. Prepare Britain for the climate we’re already getting. Invest in flood defences, drought resilience, urban trees, shaded streets, sustainable drainage and climate-proof infrastructure. Adaptation isn’t admitting defeat; it’s protecting people from impacts we can no longer avoid. 
    5. Do something gloriously weird... create a national "Climate Championship". Let cities, towns, schools and communities compete to cut emissions, restore nature, reduce waste, walk and cycle more, and save energy.  Publish a national leaderboard, give the winners serious funding for local projects, and hold a huge annual celebration for the communities that achieved the most. 

    Climate action doesn’t have to mean telling people to sacrifice everything they enjoy. It can mean cleaner air, warmer homes, cheaper energy, better transport, healthier streets and a country that is genuinely prepared for the future.
