Who was the fastest?

Last Saturday, the Wycombe defenders were turned inside out in their attempts to lay a boot on Corey Blackett-Taylor but he just ran past them, seemingly still in third gear. It has made me wonder. Who in the past was quicker down the field than Corey? I would offer Dennis Rommedahl, or going back even further, Mike Kenning? Any ideas.

He was actually fast enough over 100 metres to have qualified for the Olympics.
I doubt any other Charlton players we're faster.6 -
Phil Chappell had the fastest leg movement in ratio to the least distance travelled.9

Danny Haynes without a doubt, just a shame he was too fast for his own body4

Wasn’t John Regis in our youth team at some point?1

The answer my friend, was Robbo on the Wing.

Vetokele was no slouch.1

Shaun Newton was pretty rapid in his day. And Rufus pre knee injuries. I still remember once, away at Birmingham, Rufus making up so much ground on a Birmingham player that was through one-on-one on our goal, that he started outside my field of vision before catching up with the striker and dispossessing him with a perfect sliding tackle. I think Rufus is certainly the fastest centre back we ever had. Not fast enough to outrun the law though!3

Drove me crazy how he'd run to a defender, then stop, turn back inside and play it to a midfielder.
Anyone could do that, you've got pace, use it!
Remember the one time he did use it brilliantly and Villa (I think) could only bring him down and one of them got sent off.

Rommedahl was so fast he managed to become an international footballer despite basically not having functional feet. Haynes was a monster across the ground as well

Although I will always like Rommedahl, obviously:

“Just kick it past him and run Dennis for fucks sake” - me, five times a game as he dribbled directly into the left back.9

For pure acceleration over 10 yards Killer, it got him in behind defender's most times.
Over longer distances got to be Rommedahi.

Bent wasn’t the fastest overall, but one of my favourite ever goals at The Valley was him destroying Melchiot for pace (and strength) to score against Birmingham.12

Millwall away in the 70s I could run as fast as anyone7

Ernie, according to Benny Hill2

Peter Garland.
Physique like a whippet!.1 -
Mickey Bennet and Paul Williams before they picked up injuries were very quick.2
-
The great Len wasn't slow but I suspect Dennis in the last minute, given his 100 metre stats, is probably the man.1
-
Not Romm level but Pringle was nippy.1

Yes. Paul Williams fast. Not sure how fast Alfie May is but at his age he doesn't stop running at Defenders.0
