Jude Bellingham Dossier

Interesting article about Jude from the Daily Mail. Wonderful to see a portrait of his delightfully strict but I’m sure loving environment provided by his family. He’s such a delightful articulate and level headed young man who has been well managed by his parents. He has a brother too who according to reports is equally as good as Jude!

  • Good article that. Sounds like his parents have their head screwed on and are managing his career in football terms, not just trying to cash in. Remember his dad playing for Chelmsford city!
  • phenomenal player and the best this country has produced since Gazza. I'm not sure I've seen a weakness in his game, probably our next captain

will probably go on to be the best we've ever had
  • Right now he needs to keep grounded.  His interviews are great and he is wise beyond his years but there are so many people blowing smoke up his arse it is now time to make sure he carries on doing what he's been doing and not get too carried away.  This is where his parents are going to play an absolutely pivotal role in this next stage of his career & life.

Put yourself in his place - you are 20 years old, supremely talented good-looking bastard with more money now than you'll ever need.  How easy would it be to take your eye off the ball.

His talent is absolutely undeniable and he has the potential to be the best player in the world - and I hope he goes on to do it.
  • Brother Jobe  joined Sunderland this year for an undisclosed fee. That really didn’t make any sense.

Real Madrid rumoured to be monitoring him.  Partly because he clearly has good genes and partly because it might be advantageous for him to be with his brother
  • God I hate these double barrelled surnames!

Performing is all about confidence. Jude has huge talent. More than any other player I have seen in an England shirt.
What most disappoints is how close England have come to a trophy but not delivered.
It must be so frustrating to work that hard, and then not quite make it because the team could not help you reach those heights.
But those failures will help, his level can take England to a trophy. It just needs the right manager and environment.
I do wish he was playing over here, but conversely I think playing abroad will make him even better.

    Sometimes I think he’s a bit of a knob
Was there a pile on? If anything i'd say Foden and Kane got more stick for underperforming than he did.
Yeah Kane was the one people were really.ripping into, sharing endless memes about him being old and slow etc.

Bellingham has a big ego and a bit of a chip on his shoulder, but then I suspect 90% of very good footballers have, especially ones that good at that age - may well lose that side of him a bit as he grows up.

I think he's one of those that you love if he's on your side, but hate if he plays for the opposition given he's a bit arrogant, mouthy on the pitch etc.

I can only assume you are young if he is most talented player you have seen in an England shirt

    You assume incorrectly Sir.

I have it on good authority that he was rather unpopular in the England camp in the summer.

I think his talents do match his ego - he's an incredible player, if not overly likeable!

I can think of a few that were better! For example, one spare spot in a starting line-up and you have to choose between Bellingham and Gascoigne - not that difficult a choice is it?
  • Got no problem with Jude's self confidence. There's far more annoying people in sport than anything Jude has done.

Me too Bob, and yes, Gascoigne was the first one to pop into my head.

Bobby Moore was another, skilled, unflappable, and solid in every game

  • I don't think there was much criticism of him tbh. In fact rather the opposite, people were queuing up to talk him up even when he was having a stinker! He did still contribute a couple of magical moments and that's what great players do though. Harry Kane was the biggest target and I see he's got his smile back and has continued to slam the goals in at Bayern! Sometimes footballers would do better keeping their thoughts to themselves I feel, but I guess it's hard when all the media want a piece of you 24/7.

I think to a certain extent you need to have a big ego to make it to the high level of football. Some manage it better than others of course but football is incredibly cut throat and the only person any player can know for a fact is on their side is themselves.

The guy was running the show for Real Madrid and dragging them through games early last season.

At 19 he was the Bundesliga player of the season.
At 20 he was the La Liga player of the season and won the Golden Boy award.

    I'd say he's pretty talented.

I take issue with that. I take issue with your use of 'sometimes I think' and 'a bit of'.

Bloke was in about 4 different adverts around the Euros and is complaining about not getting enough of the attention. Absolute helmet
  • He played poorly at the last tournament but I also don't remember him being the focus of the criticism, or even in the top 5. The thing is, these days players can type their own name into the Twitter search bar and they'll 100% find the criticism they're looking for. I've got a feeling that's what KAG was doing and that's why he talks about not being rated here.

Think it’s sometimes worth a reminder that he’s still only 21.

Most people of that age are still trying to figure out who they are as people in everyday life, let alone being one of the most talked about sportsmen of his age in the world.

Great player, truly world class - but I stand by my assessment of Moore.
  • Difficult to separate the two Bobby's, maybe Sir Alf got it right by making Moore captain.
