One recommendation I'd make for visitors to BP is to download the BudapestGo app for public transport around the city. Unlimited travel for three days by most modes of transport costs 5,500 HUF and it's very easy to use.
I'm planning on spending a couple of days visiting the Jurassic Coast with the wife and kids during the October half term. Would be staying in the New Forest before that so probably visit Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door first then head further west past Lyme Regis. Any Lifers got tips for things to see and do whilst down that way?

Used to go to Lyme Regis a lot when we were kids, it’s a lively place. If you’re interested in looking for fossils, go to Charmouth which is just up the road and sift through the shingle on the coastline as the waves receed. Founds loads of them doing this.

I'd consider Corfe Village & Corfe Castle and a pint at the Square & Compass at Worth Matravers (he has a small museum room with fossils attached to the pub).

Probably depends on age of your kids but my kids (9+11) love Charmouth and always come out with tonnes of fossils when they go. Trick is to park in the car park, cross the bridge and then walk up the beach about 10 mins past where the crowds are who will strip the beach clean of anything quickly. You need to arrive about 2hours - 90mins before low tide ideally so you have some time to look but so the waves are out far enough already that if there is a cliff fall you can get out of the way. There are minor cliff falls a lot so don't go too close to them!
There is a high rope course you can do not far from Charmouth which is ok if you like that sort of thing.
An alternative if your kids are outdoorsy types who don't mind getting muddy... About 45mins drive from Lyme Regis is the bear trail. Have been twice and taught my by the Klinsmann dive there. It's a lot of fun but not for everyone and whatever you wear will be fit for the bin afterwards so we went to a charity shop first! The good thing is it is even fun in the rain (just not if it is freezing I guess!) https://www.thebeartrail.co.uk/
At the end of the month I'm treating my brother (also a rail nut) to a trip to Penzance on the Night Riviera sleeper train, and we come back next afternoon/evening on a train which has their Pullman dining car, which looks fantastic.
So my question is, what shall we do in and around Penzance? the obvious answer is Lands End. But I've been there and pretty sure my brother has too, and it's kind of desolate once you stop looking out to sea in search of New York. It also looks pretty easy to hop up to St Ives on the train - and we would not need to go all the way back to Penzance to pick up our train home.

Just got home after a 6 day trip to Washington DC, The National Air and Space Museum, ( both in DC and at Dulles ) are an absolute must for any aviation geek!
Add to that touring the Capitol building, The Washington Monument, and even got tickets to go to the top. Fords Theatre/Petersen House (Lincoln assassination) was an excellent museum, also the American we came across were as always hospitable and friendly.
Off to Tenerife Sunday after a thumping win at Shrewsbury, I'm very biased as we go over there a lot these days, CD Tenerife have become my second team and I still enjoy the island, providing you avoid certain areas, I'm passed all the night life except good food and wine.

Any tips?
Is there anything on at The Minnack Theatre. No better place if the skies are blue.
Pedn Bounder beach is absolutely stunning but a tricky little climb to get down to - does mean you will probably be the only ones down there. Nanjizal Bay is popular with Instagramers but not as good as the videos and pictures suggest.
Then you have St Michaels Mount.
Whether you could cab any or hire a car though I have no idea.
just back from 10 days in nice mrs family have an apartment there so go there most years.
next year really fancy Mallorca, ideally would like somewhere with a private pool for our room and a decent enough night life and plenty of choices for food, we tend to do 1 holiday a year so dont mind paying a bit more.
does anyone have anywhere they can recommend ideally looking to do 2 nights in palma then 5/7 days in a hotel.

My cousin and her husband own the little aquarium on Lyme Regis sea front. Only small but most seem to like it.

We have tended to rent nice, secluded villas in Majorca and then drive to the busier places for dinner in the evenings. However, friends of ours highly recommend the Hotel Illa d'Or in Puerto Pollensa. It's at the far end of the bay looking on to the sea, so away from the hustle and bustle but you can walk around the bay area in minutes and have loads of restaurant options. We might try that next time we go.

Off to here on the 21 September for a week. Would seem to tick all your boxes.
How was it overall and where were you? I'm asking because Croatia is a big thing for typical Czech families, going back to pre-revolution and being the first tourists to return after the wars in 1996. Loads of them now complain that everything is expensive, the service is bad, and that the Croats don't want them any more. But I suspect it's a certain kind of Czech saying this.
@PragueAddick We were just north of Dubrovnik in a village called Trsteno. Beautiful but not much there apart from a shop and an Arboretum. (Have stayed nearer Split previously) We started going to Croatia after Covid as cheaper alternative to Greece (we heard that it was from a family we met in Corfu, pre Covid). I guess post Covid though, prices had risen and now the Euro has arrived, risen further. Most of the time we self catered as we were a party of 9. Eating out isn’t cheap (€15 Pizza, €20+ Main Course). Always found the people friendly and service okay.
Finally managed to somewhat conquer the missus fear and get us on an abroad holiday for first time in 6years to menorca. Been lovely. Now recommendations needed for next year somewhere no further than 3-3.5 hrs flight. nice adult style hotels, beach and places nearby to visit , with music and good food are only requisites

That narrows it down to pretty much all of southern France, Spain (including the Balearics), Portugal, Italy, Croatia and parts of Greece including the Greek Islands.
I want to take my partner to the Canary Islands in October.
We will enjoy to be near / on the beach . Near great restaurants and bars but not in or very near the hen and stag areas. Like to explore and walk. Happy to do hotel or Air BnB

Yeah correct, Greece is my no.1 at the moment n somewhere like skiathos as shorter flight time than other parts and meant to be nice? Just really a place reasonably quiet and peaceful with some entertainment/restaurants

Tho a 17 day holiday pretty unrealistic it’s worth noting.
gonna be a long 3 days
