I've just left him in A & E at Pembury which we had to resort to as a last resort in getting his issues dealt with as opposed to our "Surgery" which felt his symptoms yesterday could wait until next week ....
He had recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes & tonight blood tests showed that he has developed diabetic ketoacidosis (KDA) due to very high sugar in his blood which has been left untreated.
He's now on an insulin drip plus 2 others for rehydration and antibiotics. He is pretty sick TBH. And will be hospitalised until his blood sugar levels have fallen drastically.
Not a great day except for our glorious victory this afternoon which we manged to watch at home before heading off to A & E.

Really sorry to hear this Fanny and it sounds like Mr F is now in the right place getting the treatment he needs. Hugs to you, it’s never nice to hear that part of our Charlton family is going through tough times but know we are thinking of you both. Glad the result put a smile on your faces.
Has anyone got any recommendations of sightseeing / things to do / Restaurants etc in Auckland NZ?. Going for a few days as a part of a trip to Melbourne next week. Thank you.
Where are you staying and do you have a car?
- Waiheke Island - Piha / Muriwai beach - Waitakere Ranges - Beers with @Danepak
@CheshireAddick there are 6 of us based here in Auckland. When are you in Auckland and for how long? Some of us might be able to squeeze a beer or two in.
Reg sightseeing, @jamescafc has pretty much covered it.

Thank you James. We are arriving on the 25th Oct and leaving on the 28th Oct so just a long weekend. We hadn't planned to get a car and just use the time as a city break. One option be is to get a car for one day, is the beach and ranges doable in a day?. I think we are planning to go to Waiheke Island, is it worth a trip there and if so would we need a car?.

Thank you Danepak. The beers sound good. I will send you a message once we have sorted out our schedule . Any good restaurants to recommend?. We are thinking of having dinner one evening in the sky tower, is that good?.

I’ve only been to Sky Tower once for lunch and this was back in 2003. It depends on what type of food you like. One of my favourites is Monsoon Poon which is Asian fusion. Delicious! Sounds good reg late Oct. As soon as you know more, just let me know. Reg Waiheke they do some bus trips to vineyards as well if this is your thing. Then you just catch the ferry from Auckland (40 mins).
Im thinking about visiting the Faroe Islands, especially as you can now fly directly there in the summer from Gatwick. Has anybody been? Trying to figure the best plan for accommodation as being so remote with a small population, there aren't any cheap hotel chains. Any tips would be welcome!

Not a name I know but seem to have some good discounts currently for some far flung tours.
Reputable. A global "on line" operator focussed on exotic destinations. Not massive in the UK but looking to expand. They are members of ABTA which means they have to abide by their code of conduct and have their own ATOL which means that any package you buy from them is financially protected if any of the constituent elements of the package fail.
If you see something you like the look of, talk to an agent like Trailfinders. The big difference between the two is that Exoticca is online. If you need guidance in the booking, or if something goes wrong, you are on a laptop. Trailfinders (and others) will be a person at the end of the phone, who will be based in a shop in the UK that you can also visit.

If that SE Asia tour is one you have your eyes on then personally I think the itinerary for it looks poor. Rushing 3 countries and not seeing any of them properly and too long in HoChiMin plus Phenm Penh both of which are not highlights imo.

I did notice that the groups go up to 30. Far too many people being herded about and for things to go wrong (people being late for pick up etc). I use Trailfinders and tours by Intrepid and G Adventures. Trailfinders provide 24/7 support which I’ve had to use on several occasions and the service has been excellent. Intrepid/G Adventures normally around 16 in a group.

I've also travelled with G Adventures a couple of times. Can highly recommend them for a group tour.

Very disappointing itinerary. Understand that these multi-country group tours are generally a highlights tour, but even the daily itineraries in each place are pretty dull. Could do with a bit of creativity and at least visit somewhere unique in each city.
Even with the tour price, hotels aren't up to much either. Only Hera Cruise is any good from the accommodation mentioned.
Anyone got any favourite restaurants in Playa Blanca? Going back for 3rd time and have a few favourites like Casa Roja and Casa Carlos but always worth asking around
Any tips for lake Garda and surrounding area, specifically any restaurant recommendations. Staying in Peschiera Del Garda and have the following booked - ac Milan vs Napoli - day trip to Venice - day trip to Gardaland (theme park)
Go to limone. Beautiful town on the lake, a real little gem. If you like seafood Hostaria Al Buonggusto is a good restaurant choice. Malcesine is another great place to visit, as you can get the cable car up to Monte Baldo. On a clear day the views are amazing. The great thing about Garda is that there are ferries that link all the towns , so you can see a lot of the lake quite easily.

Have a car to get around.
Sirmione is lovely and very near to Peschiera. Touristy for sure but worth the visit.
Was going to suggest that you got the train to Venice, but you're already sorted. Train to Verona a must, it's really close.
Salo another place worth a stop if on a lake trip.
