Ronan Curtis potentially as a wide option? I know he's currently training at AFCW but I would be surprised if he didn't get a League 1 club if he's fully fit.

    * I know he's missed a lot of time with an ACL injury

My guess is he’ll spend 6 months in L2/lower L1 to test out his leg

Braziliance - your continued use of "who scored" is not only boring but does not give a true reflection as pointed out by NabySarr although I admit that I do use some of those stats in the Statbank but only as I can't find another source.
Boring, but you do realise it's the metric used by every official social media account from EFL league pages?

It gives a far more realistic showing than anything else.

I appreciate the work you do on the stat Bank thread (I suspect this may be why you keep quoting my posts?) But it doesn't compare to apps that actually track every little detail players do through the game.

People could score a 1 or a 10 on the stat threads and it's extremely unlikely those kind of stats can be used.

Again I appreciate your stat tracks but Hector being motm on them does not qualify as genuine man of the match awards.

Not digging you out at all @Braziliance but the Players Marks thread is one of the things I like the most about this forum. I feel it produces a pretty accurate reflection of how well each player played, because the people voting on it are pretty hardcore fans who follow the matches very closely. I’m always gratified to see how the final stats often reflect my ranking order. And I think most of those submitting their votes are very fair. If a player who isn’t popular, or hasn’t been playing well, has a very good game he’ll be high up the table. Similarly when our most popular player (Dobbo) has a poor game, he’ll be down the bottom end, as it should be.
I prefer the opinions of lifers over statistical analysis any day, no matter who is MotM on the stats page.
Stats also have their place, but for me they never tell the full story.

No point quick fixing anything in January, as we are not going to get relegated and if they do not significantly improve the quality of our squad no chance of getting promoted either, so might as well stick with what we currently have, save the money for the summer if the decision makers are throwing in the towel for the 23/24 campaign.
Thought I'd just been transported back 12 months as I'm sure the exact same thing was said last December.

    Ho hum.

Kirk leaving is interesting as well as pleasing.

There is a limit to the number over 21 YO players we can have in the squad so this frees up a space for a replacement.

If he was on the rumoured £6k pw then he would have been paid approximately £450k over the remaining 18 months of his contract.

We can assume he's been paid some and perhaps all of that to tear up his deal.

So have the club spent all our transfer budget on moving him on or is this the first bit of money to be splashed on rebalancing the squad.

The other noteworthy part of this is how it didn't leak either via Cawley or "ITK" fans.

Scott, Methven et al playing their cards very close to chests so far and very little, other than some comments from MA, talk at all about what they plan in this window.

    WIOTOS is back
We won’t have paid him all of it, we will have come to an agreement probably taking off an estimate of what he’s likely to earn at a new club in the next 18 months and then paid him the rest

I'm far from a Hector fan but he's been good the last few games and better than Thomas, who's done an ok job. Maybe we'd have been closer to the playoffs had he fancied turning up from the get go.
Funny how his form picks up when he’s looking for a contract for next season.

Bit early for that isn’t it? Adam Matthews only used to try from around March onwards

I can't see why we would have spent our whole transfer budget, only to free up a space?

Cawley said they mentioned it was on the cards during their recent podcast.

Maybe that shows no one on here listened.

I think he actually said they were exploring options and that he was likely to leave. I just assumed it was a loan or very cheap/free sale lined up

I would say if you’re expecting a couple of million to be spent, prepare to be disappointed.
  • I am expecting another reliable squad player who is a good influence in the dressing room and fully recovered from his tragic record of recent injuries.

I don't think it should be read quite as literally as that. What it does mean is that we are looking at AT LEAST one more permanent signing (who we now have space for) and that in theory at least there is 6k p/w available now that wasn't before, which at this level would be not inconsiderable.

Plus it shows that the idea that our operating budget is completely tapped out already is either outdated or just wrong.

Now this being Charlton it's highly possible we go and blow it by signing a dud who makes Kirk look like Messi in comparison but there's reason for (extremely cautious) optimism I think.

If we aren't interested in Bauer because of 'age' and then go ahead and sign Caulker. That will tell you everything you need to know about this mob.
Yeah ok …… Bauer wages would blow our FFP.. more likey to do with wages and restrictions in league one …
Exactly. So if we did sign him, it would be fuck all to do with his age and only because we can't afford him.

If Caulker signs, it's very telling.
Wrong again we can afford him but restrictions and rules will stop us …

It's tempered by having long established well respected posters expressing reservations about our current ownership and leadership again though.

It's easy to ignore the likes of me if I come across as a condescending look at me and hear what I say self appointed authority, my views having no more credibility than anyone else's on here, but not so those more in the know with what goes on at the club and familiar to us.

Kirk, who as far as I know didn't breach the terms of his contract with us performance wise, was a poor signing and a waste of money in retrospect and had to go, which he has.

Sorting out his situation was clearly a priority, so like you, I regard his departure and as a welcome and promising sign of things to come. Let's see what January brings.

I doubt there is now an additional 6k pw available. If in paying up his contract it has cost us say 4k pw until June 2025 then that has only freed up an extra 2k pw from now until then. Yes it means we can offer a bit more to one or two players but Kirk leaving won't have been cheap. It's just given us a little bit of wiggle room
