No point in liking and wanting players we cannot get.
The league position we are in sits at their door.
They reviewed the squad a year ago
They did their due diligence buying the club
Three of their team were in situ 12 months ago
They knew our previous manager
They hired this manager
Set targets
Set realistic targets
Speak to clubs in advance of the window of those targets
Buy players we can afford and who want to come to us
If you keep trying to buy players you can't afford; aren't for sale, or who don't want to join you
That's really bad business
This lies 100% at their door
Any failure is their failure

We've won 2 of our last 12, losing the last 3
We've not kept a clean sheet in 12
We're 6 points above the relegation zone

We've known about our long term injuries and contract situation for MONTHS now

Absolutely astonishing that after the last three transfer windows there are still fans prepared to defend the lack of signings this week.
A couple of weeks ago, MA mentioned two were good to go. A player was triumphantly led around the lounges before the Oxford game, who Mendez confirmed last night did not fail his medical.
So what is going on? My view is Scott has no one in the club he can go to for authorising sacking the manager. With our ownership, such a zoom call takes a lot of organising. Meanwhile, we hurtle into a relegation scrap.
My club but blimey we are an absolute disgrace.

there are a few options as to why transfers haven't been announced or completed yet
1. Club incompetence
2. waiting for efl approval
3. shithousery. Announce the signings late to f*ck with Port vales plans.
My view is options 1 and 2 are the most likely but hoping for a bit of no 3.0 -

We won’t get promoted, and as much as people seem to want to get dramatic, we won’t get relegated either. We should be preparing for next season now, and getting in some quality well thought out players in this window - and that takes time.
The evidence as ever will be at the end of this window. If we end up with similar guff to last couple, then there’s no excuses. If we get in players the quality of JCH, Coventry etc - then there probably has been.0 -

Tedic going back must mean there's at least some confidence of Alfie being fit for the weekend and a striker being in close behind. Wouldn't want to go too many games with Kanu and Casey as backup , it's just not fair on them as youngsters.11

Isn’t Scott in control of hiring and firing managers? I doubt he needs approval from the many owners for footballing decisions. Either way I think he’ll stick with MA for longer as he’ll won’t want to go through another manager this season and he’s recognised the squad is lacking so will give him time to see how he does with the new signings we’ll make this month.0 -

Their owner has said they have turned down 450k, be curious to know who that was then as it wasn't us?
Assuming we can afford him and their owner is willing to accept, I don't know why we would risk waiting till the end of the window when he could be scoring goals for us in that time frame and another club could come in.
I'd love to know our finances and what we can afford to fork out etc.
My stance on JCH is that it isn't my money so I don't care if the club pay over what he's worth, be nice to watch quality players instead of the likes of Tedic.

Fiorini sounds a perfect Charlton signing
He scored his first goal for Blackpool on 28 April 2023 in a 2-3 home defeat against Millwall. Late in the game he conceded a penalty which gave Millwall the win and relegated Blackpool.

None of them feel like direct Dobson replacements though. Only position I'm disappointed we've had no links with is a Winger
CB - CM - Striker are the only names we've heard so far, we potentially need a replacement for CBT or at the very least a Right sided Winger to replace Kirk who can take the pressure off Corey, not just in terms of relying on him too much (as players will always have dips in form), but if we've got a threat down the other flank as well, the opposition cant put so much focus on the Left flank.
As for the length of time its taking to sign players, well that's partly out of our control, we cant force clubs or players to accept our bids, and I don't want us paying over the going rate just because we're desperate - The season is all but over, might as well take a bit more time trying to get the right players in, rather than any old names in... Naturally the longer these deals drag, the more pressure that goes on to the Recruitment team to get it right in the first place.
At the moment its 7pm in the nightclub, and people on here are already looking around for the 4/10s so at least their night isn't wasted.8 -
With us 6 points above relegation a couple of short term decent loanees to get us through this season is not a bad thing imo.
Obviously the main focus needs to be building a squad with next season in mind but if we bring in 3-5 key first teamers on perms this Jan of the right quality it would be a really good window. Then complimenting that with 1-2 loanees for areas we remain short and can focus on in the summer is fine. Just because the loanees here currently are crap, doesn't mean they all are.
