He may not be ready but if we’re going to pump the ball long I’d rather have Mbick at the end of it than Kelmansuperclive98 said:No way is he ready to be a target man in the Championship.
Leave him where he is to develop or, if the money is good enough and we can use it now, sell him to Brighton.2 -

Club just has to think hard about getting the decision right. Of course, we are a selling club, there's no shame in that, but selling at right moment is key. There's a gamble either way, whether we collect too low fee or don't sell and the player never reaches that figure again.
It's obviously a different situation, but look at Middlesbrough with Hackney. £20-25 million they are rumoured to have turned down in the summer. As captain, he's now led them to joint top of the league. That gamble has worked out nicely for the club and will go through the roof if they manage to get promoted.4 -
Sounds like Micah Mbick to Brighton is moving closer. Expected that he'll return on loan until the end of the season.

Reports of an incoming at Brighton who will join them officially in the summer. He's now followed Brighton on Instagram 👀#ColU #CAFC0 -
Great, just as we get close to the window closing and think he'll probably stay.
How much more will he be worth in a year or two?

Absolutely gutting1
-
Damn, hopefully a decent fee and a big % of any future sale1
-
I'd hope it's a big big fee and we get him on loan next season.2
-
Actually gutted about this.1
-
fee somewhere between 5-7.5m +25% sell on fee (this is the key part really) and he's gone I suspect
all guess work on my part and in reality up front fee probably less.1 -

I don't think I've seen enough of him to be gutted. But if it funds us staying up and getting ahead for next year we have to take it.
To do progression properly we have to do this type of stuff for a few years. Just the way it is at the moment.11 -
Really really gutted if this does happen today.Naively was looking forward to seeing him in first team next season.Yet another talent that leaves before we even get to watch them for a season in first team.Yes, I know we need to sell players at some points. But still gutted hes left this early in career.9

Always sad to see youngsters go but this is no Parker situation..
A young kid that may or may not make it for us....and I'd say under Jones stewardship the latter.
If the fee's good it's win win for all parties imo.7 -
If hes worth 7 mil after scoring in league 2, he'd be 15m+ next year if he does the same in the Championship. Just seems a bit short sighted, but hope I'm wrong.WSS said:I don't think I've seen enough of him to be gutted. But if it funds us staying up and getting ahead for next year we have to take it.

To be fair to the owners they really haven't cashed in on anybody since they've been here. Seems Methven had made promises to them on money the academy will produce, he even went on podcasts talking about creating spreadsheets that predict academy cash flow, they've been here a few years now and haven't had that. Will be sad to see him go without getting a chance to show what he can do for us, but if it means we can use the money to survive and kick on in the Summer then I'm ok with it, even more so if he's sold to Chelsea for 100mil in 3 years time and we make 20% of it.4
-
We'd have do this even in the PL, but the question is are we selling too early and too cheaply (as we did with Konsa, Shelvey etc) or are Brighton overvaluing him? (e.g. Chelsea with Burstow).WSS said:I don't think I've seen enough of him to be gutted. But if it funds us staying up and getting ahead for next year we have to take it.

I guess the argument is we'll have Leaburn in the target man role, perhaps competing with Dykes or a similarly experienced player, so Mbick may struggle to get game time here to be worth even more.5 -
Dykes only here until the summer though. I really thought part of that was so that Mbick could compete for a spot next seasonScoham said:

if he does prove to be that good then Brighton will sell for a very decent fee, the sell on clause is key therefore. Unfortunately we aren't in a financial position to get the real big £££ for himshine166 said:

Unfortunately we are not in the position where we can keep players on the basis of potential when a decent offer comes in, books have to be balanced and if its a good price that can be used to strengthen the squad the it has to be done.2

As I said on here last week - I'd rather a known smaller sum NOW than an anticipated sum in the future. Look at players who have scored lower down & not replicated it in the Championship. MaCauley Langstaff at Millwall for example3 -
Let's face it...Jones would turn a £3million striker into a £1million one after a year or two. Best to cash in now!!10

If true it's a poor decision imo.
Carter wants us to be the 4th biggest London club, but is happy to sell our best youth products before they have barely kicked a ball for us. Nonsense. The fee will likely cover a year or two academy running costs, so what's the point.1 -
Could be eight figures plus if he has a decent Championship spell.If.5

Exactly, the idea that it'll fund 2/3/4 quality signings is nonsense.Athletico Charlton said:If true it's a poor decision imo.

As I said in the rumours thread, if it’s a decent chunk of money and the lookman transfer goes through and with the planned outside investment we should have a decent war chest for next season IF we stay up - and mbick was never going to be part of this season for us.Mbick has clear potential but ultimately never had a massive impact on us. It’s a shame as I liked the “we don’t have to sell” attitude, but ultimately if the player wants to move the club just has to try and get the best price it can.3
-
If, but being a good squad member of a Premier League side with a big upside, probably makes you £10m.Callumcafc said:Could be eight figures plus if he has a decent Championship spell.If.
I would expect the ownership of the club now to reinvest the money0 -
Brighton fans to us if he's worth £10m+ in a few years:

I suppose the logic is if he does well at Brighton he will be sold so if we get a decent upfront fee (5plus million) and no less than 25% sell on, I can live with it. Having said that, Brighton know what they are doing and they have clearly spotted something in the lad. If we are getting a million for Lookman and this it is money we can use to push on next season.1

We saw what Jones achieved with 10m, can't wait to see what he can do with 5golfaddick said:
