Micah Mbick - 20/1/2026 The Athletic reporting Brighton have had 2 bids for him rejected (p12)

Not sure this offers much context on what's an acceptable fee for Mbick but Stoke have just sold an 18 year old centre back to Arsenal for 3.2m + add ons. He's played 9 minutes of Championship football and 4 league cup games. And Stoke probably need the money a lot less than we do.1
-
What do you mean, it makes sense. You dont even know what the fee is.WSS said:If we kept Dykes for next season where would people put Mbick in the pecking order? Or do we loan him out again?
I can’t see him suddenly become a 10-15 goals a season striker in the Championship.
It makes sense for where we are as a club now.2 -

£3m+ for a player not proven above League Two is hardly a pittance.Fortune 82nd Minute said:When it comes to selling young, promising players "twas always thus, and always will be.”
And sadly nothing will ever change.
I just hope for a change we get a decent fee and stop selling our superstars of the future for a pittance.
I can't believe some people are choosing to be so outraged. If he is so good then why hasn't he been playing for us this season?
I hope he turns into a superstar but he's a long way from that now.
The risk is keeping him, not selling him.
He didnt play for us this season because we loaned him out. And we were able to do that because we bought Kelman and Olaofe and expected Godden to be fit by October. Thats why. And how has he done on loan so far? Absolutely smashed it.

So is this actually happening?0

They've got til 9 to get all the paperwork done if they submitted a deal sheet on time, don't they?0
-
Yes. But doesn’t seem to be any news on deal sheets being submitted.aliwibble said:They've got til 9 to get all the paperwork done if they submitted a deal sheet on time, don't they?0 -
He has done really well, but 7 League Two goals don't make you a world-beater.PragueAddick said:

If we thought that he was ready for Championship football we wouldn't have loaned him out. We obviously thought back then that he was behind Kelman, Godden, Tanto and Miles. That doesn't make you think that we considered him a player worth multiple-millions.
It's likely if we still have him at the start of next season that he would still only be a bit-part player and not a starter.
If the club accept an offer of over £3m, with a decent sell-on, then I don't think, in our current situation, that they can be criticised.1 -
They’d still have to register him as a Brighton player though wouldn’t they?fenaddick said:
They do but if they were loaning him back to Colchester there’s no rush anyway. They’ll just want it done before the summer window opensaliwibble said:They've got til 9 to get all the paperwork done if they submitted a deal sheet on time, don't they?1 -
You seem unusually very emotional about this Prague…0

And no apologies for it. I thought we finally had serious owners, and maybe we do but they are listening to Rodwell. This is not the “business model” you and others think it is. With the exception of Lookman, it is the dismal pattern of our post FAPL demise: Gomez, Konsa, Shelvey all sold at least a season too soon and for no positive “business” result. I’m so sick of it.WSS said:You seem unusually very emotional about this Prague…11 -
I could understand his anger if Mbick was signing for West Ham!!WSS said:You seem unusually very emotional about this Prague…2 -
Far too early to see with these owners if it is a business model or not. They’ve rejected offers for players before, it just doesn’t get spoken about. They aren’t selling at the first offer like TS. He might not even be gone. I’d save your anger until it’s confirmed and we have a vague idea of the feePragueAddick said:

No news yet ! If this doesn’t happen I take my hat off to the owners and will hopefully end the debate re their seriousness as to turn £3+ M away for an unproven youngster isn’t something I would have done at this stage when we are trying to build a squad3

Or could it be the catalyst for a rise up the table next year with the budget for stronger more experienced championship players.? I am sure Mbick would want to go in the same way that someone like Lee Bowyer would have wanted to go to Leeds ..we spent that money wisely. He really is totally unproven at any level above league 2 and although I share your cynicism to a degree it's just where we are now as we were in the LB instance..you have cited examples above with the club being on a downward curve ..provided we avoid relegation the cash we get for him could change us for the better and keep us on the up.PragueAddick said:

People are talking about £5 million being a good deal... How would that fund a rise up the table next year...lolwray said:

I can totally understand valuing seasoned pros by what level they have played at. But Mbick is nineteen... And he is rag-dolling seasoned pros at that level. What will he be doing in five years' time?3 -
That's the thing, nobody knows. No guarantees that he can do the same at League One, Championship or Premier League.Chunes said:

Not selling now is a gamble, whereas cashing in now is a definite. Of course, £5m is not going to fund a rise up the table but it might help.1 -
I don’t disagree mate but equally he could be the next chucks and made of glass after a few years of wear and tear on his body nobody really knowsChunes said:

Me: 'Looks like we may sell Mbick this window'
Son: 'Oh fucks sake why are we so shit'.2 -
Well looks like our business is done and Brighton haven't got their man yet0
-
Cawley just confirmed no more CAFC activity. So looks like Mbick is staying, for now.12
-
Looks like we better hope that he stays in one piece and continues in the same vein for the rest of the season0
-
As Micah was not going to play for Brighton this season, why do they need to transfer his contract to Brighton in the transfer window. Why can't they just agree terms with the window shut, like a pre-contract? 😂1
-
Not sure how anyone can confidently say keeping or selling Mbick is a good decision or not until he’s had games in the championship. From what I’ve seen so far I have doubts he would do any better than what we have playing now.1
-
Tbh I think if we’ve sold MBick today I’d expect us to delay announcing it until tomorrow, as the fallout with no new additions, after the Sichenje signing, wouldn’t have been great.MBick following Brighton and a player suggests something has gone on, even if he hasn’t signed for them.0

i’m talking about the business model as many fans think it is. Its not the model pursued by Sunderland (post Methven) or Ipswich to get them promoted from this division. People talk about “investing” the fee in supposedly more seasoned players. They forget that such players also come with seasoned salary demands. And then there is the Academy itself. M’bick is easily the most promising product through there since Lookman. If we give him away now for £5m -or probably less - you cant say the Academy earns its keep, if you then blow the money on afenaddick said:

modestly talented Championship player, which is all we’d get if you amortise the salary on top of say a £3m fee. And as for the line about no guarantees that he will fulfil his promise; there were no guarantees with Olaofe, Apter, or Kelman either. Yet very few minded that we were paying sizeable transfer fees to bring them in. Pity nobody insisted on a money-back guarantee for them!

Much ado about nothing in the end, people shitting the bed for no reason, as per4

Well you can do if he's the first one to do so and the first team squad also has academy graduates as first team regulars. Miles and TC will be on lower wages than the new signings, something that doesn't get considered in these things. Mbick (note, no apostrophe) is still a punt. He might turn out to be a dud and we get back virtually no money like with Charlie Barker, AMB, Albie Morgan etc. He might also end up like Gomez (sold for less than we rejected from Brighton by the way), Lookman or Konsa. Most likely he's a Beadle, a promising player that lots value but won't light up higher divsions. Ultimately, he's still here and that's a good thing but considering selling him isn't automatically a good thing.PragueAddick said:
