  • werent barnsley bottom at xmas and then beat the scum in playoffs to gain promotion.

we will need to win pretty much every home game at least for rest of the season so unlikely
  • Obviously it's extremely unlikely, but, what a laugh it's gonna be if they got close, and if they don't, what the hell next year we go again.

assuming that 75 points is enough we would have to win 15 out of 20 games remaining just for playoffs btw so err yeah... realism is required I think this season, as good as the window has been.
    15 games you say

    Our remaining games

    Burton A
    Northampton H
    Blackpool A
    Derby H
    Reading A
    Lincoln H
    Bolton A
    Portsmouth H
    Derby A
    Northampton A
    Cheltenham A
    Carlisle H
    Fleetwood A
    Wigan H
    Exeter A
    Stevenage H
    Barnsley H
    Cambridge A
    Shrewsbury H
    Wycombe A

With the signings we have made if and its a big if, if they gel and they play how we expect can see wins v

    Burton A
    Northampton H
    Reading A
    Lincoln H
    Portsmouth H

    Cheltenham A
    Carlisle H
    Fleetwood A
    Wigan H
    Exeter A
    Stevenage H
    Cambridge A
    Shrewsbury H
    Wycombe A

    Thats 15 wins

Get something in the 2 games v Derby or v Barnsley/Bolton and play offs are definitely achievable

I mean its highly doubtful but can't be ruled out completely with the signings we have made and apparently more to come 👀

I agree Paulie it might be unlikely going on our season so far but I honestly think if we can just click a bit we are not far away. The games you list are all achieveable and I also think a few teams above us will drop away as the season progresses

Anyone who thinks 75 pts will be enough for a play off place this season is sadly mistaken.

Oxford in 6th place have 49 pts from 26 games. For them to finish in 6th on 75 pts they will only need to take 26 pts from there last 20 games. Even if Oxford collapsed into relegation zone form Stevenage are only 3 pts behind them so in reality you need to look at pts per game to calculate what's needed to reach the top 6.

Oxford's 49 pts from 26 games is an extremely high 1.88 for 6th place, this equates to a total of 87 pts based on present form.

For us to achieve 87 pts from our current 30 pts we would need to take 57 pts from our remaining 20 games. This equates to winning 19 and losing 1 to reach the current run rate of 87 pts.

It's not even an unlikely chance from this point.

My maths says we have to allow for 2 loses if we are to do it, 3 at the very most from the final 20 games.  74 points is the target, I think that will get you in there as it’s quite tight up there and no one is really pulling away.

    W13 D5 L2

Title winning form that, something we’ve not shown since the end of 18/19 season, whilst the signings are very good we have to give them a bit of room to gel, and even if they do gel quickly the squad is not complete.  Huge no from me, would be miraculous.

Looks beyond us but at least it's now looking like we can look forward to games again
With the new signings It should boasts our gates back up

Or in another way, what is to say these guys will be a success?
We have got a s*** February coming up and I would not be surprised if our points return is not what we want.
Sorry to put a dampner on today's euphoria.
Oi you had a bad day, lighten up, there’s plenty of others on here waiting to p155 on our chips 😉
I did, the dog p****** on the floor immediately after I took her for a walk :s

The important thing now is not being relegated and start building for next season. We will not make the playoffs but we should be able to give it a good go. This will tell us a lot about Appleton’s ability with better players.

As excited as I am by all these new signings there is no way we are making the play offs, there is no guarantee that all the new players will gel and even if they do it could be a few weeks before we see them settled in and at their best, we should keep looking over our shoulder to make sure we maintain the gap between us and the teams below us, have a good look at the players we’ve brought in during the remainder of the season then make any necessary adjustments to the squad in the next window and give a real go next season.
I hope @RedChaser does not read this.

8.5k instead of 8k, possibly so.
  • No chance.

    We'll be below 10th.
  • We have absolutely no chance. I admire some of the (borderline insane) optimism though.
  • Probably not but I’ve never been so excited for the second half of the season when we’ve been absolutely vanilla all year
  • 30/1 with Paddy Power, and that’s about right.

It’s going to be higher than 75 in all likelihood, possibly 80 again like a couple of seasons back. But definitely not as high as 87 - that would be wild.

I hope @RedChaser does not read this.

Nothing wrong with a cautious approach mate provided it’s balanced rather than majoring on all the negatives, it’s not good for your wellbeing.

Some like me will see the signings as an improvement in key areas that should enable the team to win more games than we lose in the second half of the season.

The squad has been freshened up, strengthened with more experienced players, winners, who have been promoted out of this poxy league and importantly enabling more flexibility with tactics.

Yes we’ve got some tough games coming up next month however the injection of new faces should give the other players a much needed lift meaning we are better equipped all round to pick up some points.

I said after the Barnsley game I was mildly confident that we wouldn’t get dragged into a relegation scrap with players returning from injury and expected new signings. I’m now even more of that opinion.

So for me it’s onwards and upwards, play offs highly unlikely but important momentum to be had to take us into next season.

Also the recruitment drive isn’t finished yet by all accounts and further adjustments to the squad can be made in the close season.

See it’s just as easy to look at the  possible positive outcomes but hey ho, Que sera sera, each to their own 😉.

    Three points today please COYRs!

  • very unlikely but not impossible - just go out there and try and win every game - stranger things have happened
  • I think it’s unlikely. We’ve probably had the best window but if I remember right the teams above us haven’t really weakened. If a few of them had lost players while we gained we’d have more of a chance. What we can do is build momentum and more of a feel good factor around the place
  • Got to laugh, we've got 1 league win in 11, just 7 wins all season, only 7 points above the drop zone and people are seriously considering us mounting a play off charge.

Let's just try and win a couple of games first. We have 4 games in February against teams currently in the top 4.

I read on here we had a good window in the summer …..

  • Think afew of you have been smoking something , can smell it from here.

one week play offs the next week looking over your shoulder at relegation and now play offs again.

    Got to laugh😂😂😂😂😂😂
  • Nope, more chance of Elf and AFKA having a growth spurt BUT we can lay the foundation and stepping stones to make this Charlton house more attractive so people will want to visit and cherish the refit and once the roof stops leaking we have a chance to see the "green shoots" 🤦🏻‍♂️ of recovery not only in the garden but all over the house.
We have to trust Capability Scott to deliver the home sweet home. We do have some more weeds to get rid of first and the 'Apples' tree is still looking a tad shabby so may have to go in the Spring.
The new January windows seem an upgrade so brick by brick 🧱 hopefully our defence to the elements are an improvement. 🏠🏡

  • We might be building the best car on the track, but remember who's sitting behind the wheel.

Apples is gaining revenge as payback for a decade of meme torment.

Bookies offering 30/1 and you do of course get the occasional 30+/1 winner in sport.
I’ve lost enough money already because a had couple of bets for autos when we signed May. Dumb!
