You would think he would have waited until the end of the season but nasty pieces of work like him don't have any ethics
Never let it be said that Evans is one to talk to other teams either before resigning himself or before the Manager he is replacing is sacked:
Resigned from Boston and became Crawley manager within 48 hours of doing so Resigned from Crawley to be announced as Rotherham manager on the same day Left Rotherham and was made Leeds manager three weeks later with the announcement of his appointment coming on the same day Leeds sacked Uwe Rosler Resigned from Mansfield and was appointed Peterborough head within 24 hours Departs from Stevenage to be appointment at Rotherham on the same day
In the last 20 years he's had nine jobs but never been unemployed for more than five months. In fact, he's only been unemployed for 12 months (most of which he would have been more than compensated for in severance pay) in total so it wouldn't be a surprise to learn that either he or his agent make it known to clubs of his availability some time before he leaves his previous employment.

Isn't this the case for the vast majority of people in any profession though? I wouldn't resign from my job until i'd spoken to another company and had a confirmed job offer from them. I would expect that's the case for most people.
He's getting a bit of stick for this but i'm not sure he's done a lot wrong here. Obviously Rotherham sounded him or his agent out first but i'm pretty sure that would be the case for any manager. It's not something unique to only Steve Evans. Rotherham then made an official approach, he said he wanted to go and the two clubs agreed compensation.
Fair play to the guy, being employed for all but 5 months in 20 years in football management is a superb achievement.

It is the same in most professions but football is different when it comes to loyalty.
With 12 games to go and having been backed to the hilt by the Mansfield Chairman with one of the biggest transfer budgets in League 2, with Mansfield in fifth and just two points behind the top three, Evans told the Chairman that he needed to resign because he wanted to go to China to manage. Some 24 hours later he was appointed League 1 Peterborough Manager. Peterborough were in eighth place, two points off a play-off place and the expectation was promotion but they lost five of their final six games and finished ninth. Mansfield ended up in 8th, three points off the Play Offs. Evans had successfully screwed the promotion chances of two sides in the space of a couple of months.
Maybe, just maybe, Evans meant the China Garden in Peterborough when he spoke to the Mansfield Chairman? Perhaps it was the lure of all those sweet and sour pork balls, spare ribs and singapore noodles that proved too much for Evans not to stomach.

So he clearly does talk to other clubs before he leaves then?!

Whatever anyone's view is of him it must be said that he's a very good manager at league one level.
