No way Taylor goes, people seem to be basing that on him being fit at the end of the season but not featuring, something we could afford to do because we had so many midfielders at the time (remember Louie Watson, Camara and Fiorini not even getting in the squads) so we could make sure he didn't re-injure himself.
He's a set piece specialist and a box to box midfielder, very similar to Coventry and I expect them to compete for that role.
Would it have mattered if he reinjured himself given the season was about to end?
It would if it meant he missed pre-season
Could have said the same about any player.
Much riskier for someone just coming back from injury though

Yeah I didn’t get it at all. Last game of the season and Florini, a player who definitely wouldn’t be here this season, started over him. Found it bizarre and personally I wouldn’t be surprised if he is loaned out for a few months, especially if we sign Bishop.

Can only imagine Fiorini had to make x appearances to preserve fees payable, less games and the fees increased. Only logical explanation. Also, there was no pressure to play Taylor having been out for so long. Now he is fit, hopefully we can gauge what impact he will have?
We do love to tie ourselves in knots about the tiniest little things that are happening. You must surely know that it isn't good for your mental health. Relax and let NJ and his team worry about the reasons behind who did and didnt make last season’s squad.
It was refreshingly professional that we allowed Taylor and Jones to rehab properly and not force them into a full on game, albeit an end of season non-event like our last few games were. It’s something we haven't done for a decade or more, usually forcing players back too early out of necessity 🤷🏻♂️
I'm worried about Leaburns injuries, quite a few already and still young. Similar size to Aneke and we know how that goes
Important to remember that his injury this time last season was caused by a pub-team defender, and then we were under pressure to get him back in because May was up front on his own. Aneke has always seemed to have a rather unusual body shape, although some people on here have reported he seems to have become trimmer. Either way, apart from height I don't see them as that similar.
In honesty when we were first linked I looked at a lot of footage of him and wasn't massively impressed. I was prepared to give him a chance but I don;t think he was going to rip up any trees

I believe Fiorini played ahead of Taylor when Taylor was hurt, but never started when Taylor was fit. And I think Fiorini's only appearance when Taylor was "fit" was the last game of the season. And Fiorini was also out of the squad entirely for a long time and playing in the U21s like Taylor.
@TelMc32 said it well, I think we can tie ourselves in knots over who plays in dead rubbers. I certainly would have been having a look in at Taylor toward the end of the season, but it may have been that the club treated the last few weeks like a mini pre-season for him, feeling it was best to get him back into shape to be ready for this season after missing almost a year (he got hurt in Feb of last year for Burton if memory serves).
I think he's going to impress a lot of people this year if given a chance. I just hope we're not so long-ball oriented that we bypass Taylor and Coventry as both are better getting it down and playing it.

I still don't get it. It's not come out of the club, it was just made up online as a possible reason he was being left out and now it's become the reason. Who knows, maybe it is, but until we hear otherwise, the far likelier story that Jones just didn't pick the guy.
If they were that worried about him getting injured then he wouldn't have been playing in the U21's.

If Taylor had come in for the last 3 games of the season, and had some decent minutes, contributing a goal or an assist, that would surely have set him up nicely for the summer with a nice confidence boost.

Yes, and a huge factor in the revolving door of injuries we have suffered.
Taylor didn't play much in the unders either though. So either a) he's not in NJs plans b) he picked up another injury the club didn't disclose c) we didn't want to rush/risk him given what happened to Leaburn and Aneke d) he was available and NJ doesn't have any issues with him he just didn't pick him at all.
I reckon it's more b or c than a or d but that's just me

It might have done. Alternatively it might have been like it was before, where he started the season off unfit, looked like his confidence drained massively as a result and then got injured badly enough to be out for most of the season. Why risk a repeat of that when the player can be built up over an intense preseason? We've got a ridiculous, storied history recently of crippling our players and we've now got a new head of performance who has been designing bespoke plans for our players to avoid it happening again.
I think it's easy to forget just how bad Taylor's fitness record was last season; when we signed him he hadn't played since February after ankle surgery. He then played 45 minutes on his debut in August before being forced off with a knee injury. He then featured here and there in a few games before limping off with another knee injury AND an ankle injury in a game in September. About two weeks after that he had to have ankle surgery again, second time in 7 months. He played 162 league minutes across 5 games and appeared in two cup games. He never looked at it and he clearly wasn't ready as his injuries showed. Abbott seems like he likes to get players back to where they need to be slowly and not take any risks, and I think that's a good thing. We saw that season that Taylor coming back without match fitness is likely to get hurt again, I'm glad we didn't risk him.

By that point Abbott was in charge of the medical side of things so it might not even have been Jones' decision - he may have been told that Taylor should not be risked or was ready for training but not at full match readiness.

Hopefully once fit he can remain fit.
Will be interesting to see where he ends up

Got nothing to say about him, just didn’t wanna be left out of the discussions.
