If anyone isn't bored of hearing about it, this podcast is brilliant. Speaks to one of the Der Speigel journalists who broke the story and a (seemingly reputable) lawyer about the potential ramifications

The story of Manchester City and 115 charges .. well worth a look from the BBC0

So City found out about the verdict in the summer and then went on to spend loads of money

'All clubs spend money this is just a witchhunt'.The purpose of these schemes was found to have been to artificially inflate the club’s revenues, and reduce its costs, by more than £900 million during the affected period, to appear to comply with financial rules.£900 million pounds.3

This PL statement is absolutely incredible. I genuinely wouldn't be shocked at relegation now it's been found to be £900m they overinflated the revenues by1 -
I’ve said at the time of the Chelsea saga, that the fine should match the amount of the cheating, so a £900 million fine with a relegation. It’s the only way that clubs will stop attempting to break the rules.6
-
It’s the downstream effect of that £900m, it’s the effect on other clubs spending trying to compete, how much did that cost other clubs.13

Surely their owners should be punished as well. They’re meant to be the Royal Family of the UAE for ffs. It implies they’re a bunch of dodgy scammers on par with Tahoon NimerMarcusH26 said:https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/4727779/premier-league-statement-manchester-city-fc

Think the owners need to go too and all senior execs that worked for them during this period need to be investigated.cabbles said:

Make sure they don't sell it to someone they know and can have as effectively a puppet owner whilst Sheikh Mansour ultimately controls it in the background.3 -

Exactly. I mentioned earlier that Spurs just missed out on the CL on a number of occasions in the period being investigated. Thats a hell of a lot of money we missed out on.
Compensation claims from Clubs that missed out on titles/trophies/european places/relegated in those seasons & individual player claims against them will finish them off as a football club and they will fold.
Thats without taking into account any football sanctions.
They are proverbially down the creek without a paddle. Oh well...

Wow. Premier league sound incredibly angry. Surely Liam is wrong, again!3

I’ve never really minded City as a club, and even with the investment it at least brought another challenger into the top end of the Prem. But after today’s verdict, throw the book at them. I wonder how much pressure the owners will start to put on the UK government. I wouldn’t be surprised if their tentacles are wrapped around lots of trade, investments etc.
Agree with @MarcusH26, hope the EPL tell the owners they can’t come anywhere near English football ever again, cheating scum

I can’t imagine that anything less than enough points to guarantee relegation will be the outcome. It is off the scale compared to anything that has happened before. My initial thought was that taking away trophies would make me feel uncomfortable. However it does have a logic when compared to drug doping cases in athletics, cycling and other sports. We’ve seen British athletes stand on podiums to get higher level medals than they won on the track several years previously. The logic is that City (through financial doping) strengthened their team and squad to make both stronger and without such strengthening they were less likely to have won each trophy - no doubt they would still have won some of them. It still sits uneasily with the culture of football, but it has a logic.2

900 Million!
Forget the book, they need the bookcase thrown at them.

Be interesting for the new Football Regulators, as they can force a sale of the club0

I don’t see how compensation claims would work because even if City had spent less or other teams had spent more it’s no guarantee that a team like, for example, Spurs would have had more successful seasons.JohnBoyUK said:Rothko said:It’s the downstream effect of that £900m, it’s the effect on other clubs spending trying to compete, how much did that cost other clubs.

Essentially you can quantify the chances of something happening, it’s explained in the Sports Agents video I posted earlier.LargeAddick said:

The precedent was set by the Burnley/Everton lawsuit2 -
If they are not cattled for years and years as a result of this then, to paraphrase the Bard, something is rotten in the State of the EPL.1
-
Don’t worry all, I’m sure these £900 million cheats are fit and proper persons.Surely they have to enforce a sale (as well as other fines/points deductions).1

Watching The Sports Agents video Mr Snowball (Lawyer) says (@24 minutes) that The Burnley/Everton lawsuit is still going, there's a pending appeal.fenaddick said:

As Mark Chapman says, "of course there is".0 -
Stan Collymore has been absolutely perfect on what he's said on Twitter:
"City fans, genuinely feel for you, we all support clubs through good and bad, and maybe hold our nose at times when something seems too good to be true. Being genuine here, no bs, no clucking, no delight. Could be any supporter today. Needed to say that.
But this now is the biggest football scandal in British football history nothing comes close.
Expulsion from the Prem and EFL a bare minimum, several billion in fines, Abu Dhabi struck off global football ownership, selling all clubs, an independent commission into all Premier League clubs financial conduct, and where applicable, criminal fraud charges.
English football has been relatively lucky with financial or general cheating Scandals over 150 years ( there have been minor things) but this makes this season's Premier League ( are the practices alleged still happening? How many managers and players today are paid off books in contravention of HMRC and English law?) null and void until sanctions are implemented.
The motion that one club can fulfill fixtures while serious and potentially criminal allegations are pointed at the directors box would make it a circus and grossly unfair on every other club.
We all need to take a harder look at just letting anyone in to own our club on the promise of trophies and memories. Our forebears supported clubs simply for enjoyment and competition, not to end up like this. A mess."11 -
